Dear Editor,

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Pls. publish this letter in your web site or forward to concern officials. Following the defeat of Barbaric, Ruthless, Murderous LTTE TERRORIST by the heroic security forces, Sri Lanka as a nation for the first time getting the massive support of the masses to come under one banner and one nation.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ However, it is unfortunate to here that some sections of the political arena talked about 13th Amendment of the constitution. You may recall the fact that 13th Amendment was accepted by then President J.R. Jayewardene under duress of India. Besides, it s framework is dividing Sri Lanka in ethnic lines and also accepted a concept of so called” Tamil Homeland” combined with North & Eastern Provinces.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ As per His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka i.e. Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse repeatedly mentioned that Sri Lanka has no minorities and SRI Lanka has two communities that is to say People who love their Motherland and who do not. This concept accept by the overwhelming majority of Sri Lanka and in the context of that, there is no necessity of talking 13th Amendment under any circumstances.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Everybody knows very well that Sri Lanka belongs to all the people living in the country and there are no exclusive areas belonging to any community and in fact 70% (percent) of the Tamil Community living in outside so called Tamil Homeland of Northern and Eastern Provinces is the best example that all the Sri Lankans must live in all areas of Sri Lanka irrespective of cast, creed, language or ethnicity.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Similarly, it is very clear that Cities, towns, villages like Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mulathivu, KKS, Batticalo etc are not belonging to any ethnic group and all Sri Lankans must live in all these areas as Sri Lankans.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ About the 13th Amendment, we have noticed that some section including government ministers are started talking and putting pressure on to accept it as a solution to the problem. Besides, the biggest traitor ever produced by the history of Sri Lanka Mr. Ranil Wicramasinghe also mentioned that UNP will steadfastly support the 13th Amendment to implement as the solution to the ethnic problem.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In our view, there are no unique problems to Tamils in Sri Lanka other than the problem faced by all Sri Lankans such as education, employment opportunities, health care facilities etc where majority Sinhalese are more prone to these problems than any other statistically.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We consider only rapid development of Mother Lanka allowing more opportunities to masses and allow all Sri Lankans to settled in any area they like possibly in a mixture of all communities all over Sri Lanka as the only solution.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In view of the above, we would like to reiterate that any politician or section of politicians try to pursue this line may take our beloved Motherland to division and therefore, we must mention he or she has to serious consequences howsoever, he or she is popular at the moment. Therefore, we urge the government to take necessary steps to defeat this ideology of 13th Amendment at its roots. Otherwise, all the sacrifices by the masses, security forces in this country to preserve the unitary nature may go as a waste.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Thanking you.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sincerely,

Nimal Tissa Wijetunga.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
