RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR DECLARES THAT THE IDP CAMPS IN NORTHERN PROVINCE ARE NOT SECOND TO SIMILAR CAMPS ELSEWHERE

Russian Ambassador in Sri Lanka Vladmir Mikhaylov declared that the standards maintained at the Internally Displaced Persons camps in the Northern Province in Sri Lanka are not second to similar camps elsewhere in the world.

He was speaking at a ceremony to hand over equipment and food worth 72 million Rupees to the IDPƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s in Sri Lanka. The equipment and food was handed over to Minister for Human Rights and Disaster Management Mahinda Samarasinghe.

The Russian Ambassador further said the donation by the Russian Federation has got no conditions attached to it. The equipment was airlifted to the country from the Russian Federation.

Mahinda Samarasinghe speaking at the ceremony at the Russian Center said the Russian donation was directly handed over to the government.

The Russian aid includes two mobile power stations, 30 summer type tents, 1,500 Blankets, over 10,000 canned meat and fish along with disinfectants, medicine, and other medical products weighing 8,500 kg.

With the equipment came two experts on demining.
