Just a short note to express my thanks to Tony Jones for his decision to interview Palitha Kohona, Sri Lanka’s top diplomat at the UN, on last night’s Lateline program.

Dr Kohona, as Tony mentioned in his introduction, has an impressive track record on foreign affairs and is the type of international civil servant who is, both well credentialled and articulate. He is one who is analytical and sticks to the facts, and will not be drawn into nonsensical exaggerations. I am sure all those who watched your program last night, be they Sri Lankan Australians or the wider viewing public, would have appreciated your decision to interview Dr Kohona instead of relying on apologists for the murderous LTTE and the “Tamilnet” for information on the situation in Sri Lanka. These types are driven by a dishonest agenda and that is to slander and rubbish Sri Lanka following their drubbing on the battlefield. They just cannot believe and indeed will not accept that the cancer that was the LTTE has been excised from Sri Lankan society and consigned to the dustbin of history.

Thank you once again – I hope “Aunty” continues to be a well balanced and fair minded broadcaster.
