I agree with the writers aim.
But the idea is bit too rough. I think we should postpone No 2 and 3 for sometime. First (as I have written to lakaweb earlier) we should unite Asia and make it free of conflicts (no ethnic or boarder wars). Then gradually change the economy (such as Rag Trade economy) to a position that the west cannot hold our nations in Ransom.
To do this we need a non political leader like Mahatma Ghandi. The rest can be done later.

I totally agree with Mr Sunil Wijayapala for his new thinking of take the baton to your hand and turn back to charge them instead of trying to run away from them as we did in our past.
I believe that the Govt of Sri lanka gave a clear message to the EU in this regard concerning the abolishing of GSP+. In the first interview given by MR Ajith Nivard Cabral to the BBC he mentioned that in which we can not depend on GSP+ forever and that we should prepare our garment industry to survive without GSP+ preference, though it is always welcome. Now Eu wants to have the dialog with the SL Govt .Because they realize that they are loosing the grip little by little if they impose more and more embargo on us.By doing so they push us towards China India etc for the economic and military dependency.
There are still some Sri lankan have the colonial masters syndrome in their blood and afraid of thinking against their masters. Do not forget if we are capable of explore our oil deposits and new Hambantota Harbour they need us than we need them. Our future strategy should be find good markets in India and China where there have over 2 billion consumers. It is true that we had to depend on GB and later on EU for the machinery and the new technology in the past .Now where are they. They are far more behind now to the rest of the world in comparison with the price and quality. We are no longer able to go with the European or American goods.Take a good example on cellular phones.Majority of Sri lankan can not afford higher prices they gave in the begining. Thanks to China we get them(Well known western brands) still Chinese made. Not only in one field this is the truth for every aspect.

Who gave us locomotives those days,Canada. Now China. Who gave us military hardware India and China.Supersonic combat aircraft were gifted by China some says.If we were waiting to get such kind of support from west my friend now you are in a separated part of Sri lanka , according to their agenda.
Do not worry anymore that we are loosing our colonial masters. They are not threatening us instead we are leaning away from them for the good.

Thank you for your article content offering real and meaningful advice. What MR should do now is to let fire and destruction engulf the evil outfit that brought him to power and destroy it within so that none will ever resurrect it. For this MR should seek the help of people, especially those stake holders outside the circle who can put in a brand new system of governance free of any English contamination to take us back to where we should be, than moving back to life in the wild. In the mean time, MR must let those who can create tools of sheer barbarity and destruction to overcome the threat posed by English who used their version of horrendous brutality to reign supreme. With due respect to the comment made on this article, we do not need any more Mahathma Gandhis as we already have Buddhists who may be equal to millions of Mahathmas for their contribution to guide us to commit suicide when the marauders were on the march to wipe us out. Unless MR does it for his own good and future safety, it will be a horrible disaster waiting for his family and friends if he indulges in the comfort of an evil mechanism until it goes back to the wrong hands.

But I am seriously wondering about the ability of a person like MR who was born to, fed with, brought up and benefited from English value system would be any different to all other leaders that we had running this illegal outfit unashamedly administering English Colonial rule under a new name. If his deeds mean anything, there is no doubt that he is doing exactly what his English masters did though the words formulated by an array of western educated advisors orchestrating western hype in all guises is meant to be otherwise. There are many Diaspora members including many prominent members publishing articles at Lanka web, a high profile site, immensely paying tributes and expecting so much from a person who never enjoyed such expectations in the bulk of the early part of his 40-year long political career. Can any of those people placing so much trust on a single person tell me whether you are driven by words that you hear or the actions that matter because actions speak very louder that we are stuck and going backward in time according to many events that are taking place during post-LTTE era? Could these profound words pumping adrenalin to our hearts and pointing to a great future be stolen property from someone else who could really do what they mean? Are we oblivious to the truth by the glory of victory over terror achieved by paying a tremendous price, the goldmine that kept many other leaders in power after winning the early part of the same war that they kept fighting for many years?

I wonder what kind of people would have produced the type of Saraths in Army and Judiciary who have proven to be so disgraceful beyond our imagination. I wish MR is the last to rule the country using this English death trap and that Sinhala people stand up on their own to decide their own future by demolishing this evil instrument of power taking us no where but down to hell. We agree that any one taking the side of Tamils to destroy Sinhala people are traitorous. But what about those who go with English and their values? Are they our saviours? Please someone answer me because I have a serious doubt about the conviction of those bearing English flag under their sarongs. I feel sorry about the vast majority of Sinhala speaking community blindly settling for rotten English garbage by throwing away their own value system more worthy than gold that kept them alive under all circumstances.

    1. There should never be separate Ministries for Development of North and East. All provinces must have a development department and these under one Ministry. No preferential treatment! No joint Ministirial roles, if a Tamil or Muslim is qualified and is the most suitable person he/she should be appointed. Integration and not separatism is the answer.

    2. You have to learn to live with your enemies as well as your friends. As they say ‘even chicken shit may be needed at some time. Australia too takes an enormous amount of money through so called ‘recognised’ Aussie Exams. Is that a myth?

    3. You don’t quit, let them kick us out but we should have our say as a sovereign nation within the commonwealth club. Its not only the Anglos but Aussies too who incline to the Tamil Diaspora who use the funds they have collected to bribe anyone.

    4. Navi Pillai is basically a Tamil and she will instigate investigations into alleged war crimes at the UN but wil never level anything at the Americans and British on any invasions, because she is just a puppet paid by them. The INGO’s have lost a lot of luxury jobs and they are writing reams and reams of reports to subtantiate what they did not do for 26 years!

    5. President Rajapakse has developed strong relationships with Pakistan, China, Russia and neighbouring countries which enabled him to end LTTE terrorists. But Sri lanka should be wary of India the country who gave birth to LTTE terrorists and their ideas which is to pacify their Tamil Nadu brothers. They say only trust and Indian one who is dead or one in a picture frame!

    6. The involvement of western countries to evacuate Prabahkaran and his morons from Sri Lankan shores is a well known fact. UK’s ‘Sillyband’ is still smarting from rebuke he got from ‘Gota’ a man of many talents. He kows how to handle them and may he have the strength never to waver from his resolve. To effect sanctions the countries in the UN must give a mandate. The Tamil Diaspora may influence and buy out most UK, US and other western nation politicos but our staunch friends China and Russia who have veto powers, Pakistan, Iran and other friendly nations and not forgetting India will always stand by Sri Lanka just like before.

    7. The biggest embarrasment to these western nations is that a small nation with limited manpower and weaponary, completely anhilated ‘the most barbaric terrorist group in the world’ that has plagued Sri Lanka for 26 years. US, UK and western nations statistics don’t lie. Every war they are embroiled in is a disaster. In Kosovo they will have to keep the UN forces forever! This is what they want to sell weapons and keep their armed forces personnel in employment along with thousands of INGO’s unfortunately they lost the plot in Sri lanka!

  5. orpheusperera Says:

I wish to add the following to my respond to caution Kumar.
There may be people like Mahatma Gandhi in Sri Lanka. But there may be not enough people to follow them. Majority of Indians are still following his ideology. Some of them practice it even if they reside in the west.
Mrs. Sirima Bandaranaikatime tried her best to make Sri Lanka free of the west. With the help of the Eastern Europe and China she established massive industries such as textile, Steel, Iron, plywood, tires. The Petroleum refinery was a giant step, which gave lots of jobs to people, save a massive amount of foreign exchange by refining the petroleum in Sri Lanka. In addition it provided fertiliser, paint and even goods such as candles. “Air Ceylon” the national carrier was started during that era.
Jaffna farmers became well off providing onions and potatoes to the entire country. Her government also helped the small industrialist to manufacture goods for the local market as well as for the export market. She also started the porcelain factory with the help of the Japanese government. Had comfortable trains presented to us by the Peoples Republic of China and by the Canadian government under Piers Trudo.
But something went wrong somewhere. The unemployment problem was never solved. Their was still a shortage of food items.
Finally voters used their votes in 1977 election giving J R Jayawardana powers to do anything other than “changing a man to a woman and a woman to a man”(as he said once).
Uniting Asia is one of the most impotent things MR can do before taking harsh action against the west(who are well known for bribing anti national forces in the 3rd world). Mrs. Bandaranaika was able to stop a Indo-China war, for which she never received the Nobel price for peace. Government led by the Buddhist monks should teach the future generations, the danger of drugs, to value home made products than imported goods. Keep them informed how the west get richer and to avoid Mac Donald and Koca Cola(not good for the health) and also the ministers should set examples to rich people by showing them that happiness can be achieved by living a simpler life.
Finally hopefully People will vote MR to reverse JR’s silly constitution and the “Rag Trade economy”.
