Fasting is not the way

Just one week after our war ended, with the backing of ten other mostly Caucasian countries, Switzerland submitted a resolution to UNHRC against Sri Lanka on sixteen counts. They wanted to investigate ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”War CrimesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ at the end of the war. To counter that sham charge, Sri Lanka proposed a five point counter proposal: ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Assist Sri Lanka in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

Supporting Sri Lanka proposal, India said; by ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-forcingƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ a special session on this council, HR has become ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-politicized.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ China said; the council should ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-respect the sovereignty of Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ Russia said; it ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-welcomes the end of the bloody conflict.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ In the end, Sri Lanka won 29 for 12 against. And, UNSG should have implemented that approved Sri Lanka proposal.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Surely, UNSG Moon has no moral right to promote a rejected resolution. But that is what Moon had done from the day one that ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”war crimeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ resolution was rejected. Moon lead team hatched a conspiracy to get out of the conundrum. In the back rooms of the UN, Arbour and company of ICU wrote bogus reports; channel 4 aired same old doctored films and imagers; Tamil Diaspora and NGO dollar sharks disseminated fabricated stories through International journals, Weekend papers and tabloids, face book, twitter etc.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ After a year, Moon appointed a three man commission purport to advise him on Sri Lanka. Authority of the Secretary General (SG) is described in Chapter XV and in Articles 97 and 98 of the UN Charter. No UN committee such as UNHRC authorised him nor had he obtained consent from Sri Lanka. As usual he had the backing of the US and the EU. But are they are not the owners of the UN? No.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Predictably, Russia and China objected to MoonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s illegal action in harsh words. ThatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s where it stands now. Now with two permanent members of the Security Council opposing where would ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”the report of MoonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s commissionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ end up; waste paper basket I suppose. But, some idiotic commentators deem to think US and EU are the owners of the UN.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Then there is another point: As far as we know of, this is the first time a UN Secretary General appointed a commission without the approval of a committee of the consent of the member concerned. It looked as if the Secretary General knew that he has over stepped his authority. Otherwise why does Moon tried to fall back on to an agreement he signed with our President as the basis for appointing his commissions.

Now the question is; should we patriotic Sri Lankans accept MoonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s arbitrary action lying down or let him know we disapprove his conduct. I think, through agitation and peaceful protests, we must let the world at large know where we stand but certainly fasting is not the way.

In the meantime, Sri Lanka government must work towards impeaching at least bring about a condemnation of Moon for his arbitrary action though diplomatic channels.
