OPEN LETTER TO HON. KEHELIYA RAMBUKWELLA -ARE YOU INSANE MINISTER?
Posted on October 9th, 2011

By Stanley Perera-Melbourne

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ My dear Minister Rambukwella,

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ You have expressed your personal view to grant limited police and land powers to the North. I must very bluntly ask you whether or not you are out of your mind to suggest limited powers to North on Police and Land powers? It looks to me as if you are caving in for the pressure from nasty Indians and that Bloke Blake?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The writer is the Perera with whom you had some communication regarding some issues recently.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ My dear Minister, if you give an inch, they will take a mile. The president Rajapakse, out rightly and vehemently rejected the call for Police and Land rights to the North. East say they do not require any Police or Land rights. Vast majority of Sri Lankans are opposed to the TNAƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s demand of Police and Land rights to the North. Jayalalitha says there should be a referendum in the North only on the issue of Police and Land rights. Does it mean that you are taking the orders from Tamil Nadoo leaders against your own President? The Sri Lankans are outraged at your suggestion. Are you not aware of the fact that those TNA rascals are only loyal to Tamil Nadoo racists politicians and not to the Sri Lankan Leaders? Are you also forgetting the fact that those TNA rascals are the representatives of a very small proportion of the Tamils of the North? ArenƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t you aware of the fact that the public opinion is against your suggestion? Are you not aware of the fact that the TNA rascals were appointed by the Terrorist leader Velupillai out of the terror gang LTTE? Are you not aware that the TNA rascals are a pack of racist terrorists? Are you not aware of the story of the Portugese laying a cow Hyde in Kotte? I will come to your rescue now Minister and say it is only a slip out of your tongue and you didnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t mean what it is stated in the news media. Otherwise the peace loving Sri Lankans will conduct a war against your expression. Surely one should be frothing mad to give limited powers on the TNA demands. Limited powers will become unlimited powers. Have we not learnt a bitter lesson out of the Tamil TerroristƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s war against the peace loving Sri Lankans. Hve you forgotten that pig Sivajilingam in his maiden speech at the parliament to send 4000 body bags to Colombo? Have you forgotten that SivajilingamƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s speech was prorogued in the Hansard for the first time in Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s political history? Have you forgotten the fact that those 22 TNA rascals took oath of allegiance before Terrorist Leader Velupillai?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The writer must reminds you Minister that the war against the Tamil Terrorist LTTE was won with the full support from the masses and brave front of the Rajapakse brothers. Therefore you canƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t afford to get the peace loving Sri LankanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s backs up.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Your suggestion is completely contradicts the PresidentƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s and the public opinion. Patriotic Sri Lankans do not take your personal view point so lightly. The writer therefore politely suggests you correct the statement made hastily.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

  1. Fran Diaz Says:

TNA must first publicly revoke the Vaddukoddai Resolution (Eelam through Violence) before any future concessions are made re the North. Even after that, it should be on a piecemeal basis and stretched over a long period and dependent on peaceful growth in the North with other ethnicities allowed to settle in those areas without harrassment.

  2. ranjith Says:

JRJ was forced to be an architect of Provincial Councils, N & E merger, 13th amendment, and so on by India.

He carried out all the dirty works without the consent of people.

Now, MR government too gradually slipping to grant Police and land powers to Sampanthan gangs in order to satisfy the West.

If the government grants those powers to TNA gang, then automatically the charges against SLG put forward by UN and the West will vanish without any trace.

  3. Lorenzo Says:

    Fran,

    Not enough.

They may renounce it but come up with another one.

The question we must ask is: why police and land powers needed?

There is no need for police and land powers to a PC. So don’t give it.

  4. Ben_silva Says:

We have to question the state mind not only of the minister, but also the mind of the majority Sinhala Buddhists who will stay silent whislst the whole country is lost. Buddhists will prey for Nirvana, give up desires and aim to end suffering and pain until the whole country is lost and do nothing about it.
It is time for the Sinhalese to escape the grip of the passive religion mind virus, stop trying to give up desires, develop desires to survive and win, stop aiming for ending pain and realise ‘no pain no gain’ and stand up and be counted, before the whole country is lost.

  5. AnuD Says:

LTTE supporters are willing to not to push war crime charges or harass Mahinda Rajapakse and others who got rid of LTTE if they are given the federal solution. Read and se how Teli Rajarathnam else where mentioned how the govt is making the west happy by rehabilitating former suicide bombers and black tigers.

Now, the govt is using it’s obliged henchmen to test the waters by getting him to suggest this. If people highly reactive against this they will forget this. Otherwise, rajathuma declare open it scoring more points.

Some minister who is obliged to the govt suggest something like this in order to show their loyalty to the leader. If you are mindful about this you would notice that this happen very often.

  6. gamunu6 Says:

    Dear Mr. Staley Perera!

I agree with you fully that no police or land powers should be given to any province, as Northern province & TNA continue to threaten & intimidate our President about war crimes and get him to agree to these Un Acceptable demands.

Canada did NOT give similar provisions as Canada’s federal govt. retains these powers for the good of all of the country.

Sri lankans should protest vehemently to even listen to such propsals backed by India & USA.

I feel as many Sri lankan feel among them Tamil pople, that these powers shoild be the responsibilty of the Central Govt exclusively.

Please continue to write & amass like minded people so that this minister would not grant any favours to North or East & its people.

Thanks again Sir for your valuable contribution……….Gamunu Alahakkone. Canada

  7. mario_perera Says:

In my humble opinion, if we are to realistically assess this situation dealt with by Mr. Stanley Perera, stark distinctions have to be made. A politician possesses a dual personality: what he IS and what he SEEMS TO BE or what he projects himself to be. This also draws the subtle line between the politician’s ego, glow, glory and power (economical and even physical-examples are the rioter or the gutter-snipe rotter from Kelaniya and drug baron cum politician Duminda Silva), and the identity of the nation he represents. The politician tries to show both as merging together. This is playing “blind man’s bluff”. If the sought after personal attributes of the politician coincide at times with the nation’s security and need, so much the better for the politician. In other words, the nation’s good must be a fall-out of the politician’s own good and ambitions. This is true not only of Keheliya, but also of his master and the master’s clan in power.
What this reasoning broils down to is that: should the so-called granting of ‘limited land and police powers’ to the Northern politicians or tigers in sheep’s clothing be necessary to maintain the ego, glow, glory and power of the rulers that are, then they will find every reason to do so. That this would be the betrayal of the trust of the nation as a whole would in no way affect them. Indeed these repeated victories at the polls are nothing but the total trust of the nation placed in the hands of the present ruler, that he maintain his sacred promise, sanctioned by kissing the soil of Mother Lanka, that the land of Sri Lanka is for all. Keheliya does not see his statement as an aberration and deviation from this sacred promise. If he openly states so, it could well be as his Master’s voice’ trying to test the ground he hopes eventually to tread. But that is the nature of the politician, whether it be Keheliya. Mahinda, Gota or similar. It is for the intellectuals, and surely and above all the Maha Sangha, to be watchful and vigilant, vociferously opposing such a disastrous move even by taking to the streets. The politician will come and go but the nation must survive for our children and generations to come. No one must henceforth be allowed to this nation to ransom.
    Mario Perera, Kadawata

  8. Ben_silva Says:

    Mario,
You have made some good points. You have mentioned Maha sanga. What did the Maha Sanga do when the CFA was signed ? Maha sanga may help s in spiritual matters, but has not provided practical help on survival. In many Buddhist countries, the Buddhists have been wioed out. In Maldives, the Maha Sanga were beheaded when the country turned Muslim. We should not have high hopes on Maha Sanga. Ordinary people need to stand up and be counted and unfortunately that is not happening. We need people with a will to survive and with a will to ‘fight’. I do not think Maha sanga will give us those two qualities needed to survive, as the Maha sanga is too passive. We have to think of new ideas boldly and we must get the will to survive in our mind and not the will to seek Nirvana and go extinct.

  9. LankaLover Says:

First Thesawalamei Law should be revoked. Second, all the people who were ethnically cleansed by LTTE should be given compensation, and land and settled in their original place of residence or close to it. There are thousands of victims of LTTE live in the South. There are thousands of families in the South who have lost their bread-winner to LTTE violence. No one is talking about them. They all should be paid compensation, provide housing, and make special provision for their children to have better education.

The racist TNA pushing LTTE agenda go around to Tamil Nadoo, and foreign Embassies asking them to pressure Sri Lanka to give into their racist LTTE demands. Sri Lanka should overwhelmingly reject them.

    13 Ammendment should be abolished.

There should not be any Land, Police, or Diplomatic Powers given to any province. If given, Sri Lanka will lose control of provinces, and it would pave the road to Eelam.

Keheliya should understand that he is just a temporary person holding an office to serve the wishes of the majority of the country, and not some racist few.

Get down from your high-horse Keheliya, and listen to the majority of the country.

Sri Lanka should promote ‘ethnic integration’ and whelmingly reject any ethnicity based proposals or measures.

Everyone should be equal and equal opportunities should be promoted.

Sinhalese are the most less vocal people when it comes to their rights, and for years, Sinhalese have been mariginalised by the actions of the racist and vocal LTTE-EELAM Tamil lobby.

we are trusting at least the Sinhalese politicians not to give into LTTE-EELAM Tamil lobby, let alone protecting the rights of the Sinhalese.

Keheliya stupidity should be whelmingly rejected and opposed! No one gave you or SLFP votes to give into LTTE-EELAM Racist Lobby of TNA.

  10. Ben_silva Says:

Well said LankaLover. Sinhalese should ask for equal rights. Sinhalese are too passive and too silent as they are brain washed by a ‘AHINSA’ Indian religion that has been dumped by Indians. We cannot survive being passive. We should fight for our only homeland whilst respecting the rights of all citizens. We cannot blame others for our own lack of desires and lack of competive spirit. Learn from other ethnic groups, before we lose the whole of Lanka. Te North, East, Hill country and now the Capital may be permanently lost. Resettling the displaced Sinhalese is a must and to dismantle mono ethnic areas created by imperialists.
If we give up our fighting spirit, we will automatically achive Nirvana

  11. Fran Diaz Says:

Lorenzo : I agree with you on “why Police & Land Powers ?” . Yes, given the present day mind set from TNA leaders, it is likely that they may come up with an alternative to the Vaddukoddai Resoln. Also, how much political thinking is done for the SL North leaders by some Tamil Nadu leaders ?
So given the situation, nothing extra must be given to the North or any other part of Lanka. One Lanka – same rules for everyone.

I am inclined to go with Dr Sudath Gunasekara’s article (“A Land where …”) published on the Lankaweb today (11 Oct). His ideas in it are excellent and will do away with the dangerous politics any democracy can head toward.

  12. Siri Says:

I believe that minister Rambukwella is a turncoat with a former UNP background. It is not surprising for an ex UNPer to voice such an idea. We should be thankful for having a President who with the support of his relatives in crucial positions is able to withstand the stupidity and curruption of the UNP Turncoats. We have to undestand that the government needs the votes of these Turncoats to pass legislation and develop the country. This is Democracy. Giving into the demand for Police and land Powers is like letting the Camel put his head into the tent. The next demand will be to prevent Sinhalese settlers colonising the North and East. The Sri lankan public is carefully watching the stupid politicians and the currupt ones who came over from the UNP to avoid prosecution for their crimes. Come election time I hope these guys will get kicked out.

  13. Ben_silva Says:

To respond to Siri, why wait till the election time. We should start protesting now. Stanley has giiven a good start.
We should have a fighting spirit and the ability to ‘fight’ within us rather than the ‘flight’ spirit shOWn by loosing the North, East and so on. Dump passive religions, just as the Indians have done.

  14. Marco Says:

Ben you appear to be totally obsessed (quite frankly monotonous) with the “religion” thing especially the passive nature of Buddhism. Please don’t lecture me on the Nalanda Buddhist. We have read it umpteen times. (ps I’m not a Buddhist but I follow the traditions and practices)
We recently witnessed the “fight” you say with all guns blazing to take the upper hand amongst thugs purporting to be Presidential and Defence Advisors (sic). Is that what you call a “fighting spirit”? No thanks!

Thankfully no innocent civilians were hurt.

With regards to Minister Rambukwella statement is he not playing to the visiting gallery of the Indian Foreign Minister?. Play to the galleries until time runs out then play a different tune.

  15. Lorenzo Says:

    Ben,

I think now we need religion more than ever.

Law and order, common courtesy and example alone cannot control man.

  16. Ben_silva Says:

Lorenzo has a good point. Is it not possile to teach right and wrong and morality without using religion as indicated by Einstein. As for Marco, I am not lecturing him, but merely expressing my opinion and indicating t6he need to think boldly instead of using a tool (religion) that was useful in the past. He does not need to read my comments,if he does not want to and at the same time he should not attempt to stop others expressing their opinion.
Looks like Marco is an anti Sinhala person who is keen to send te Sinhalese to Nirvana.
As for Nalanda Buddhists, Indians have learnt lessons and we have not. As a non Buddhist you appear to be keen that we Sinhalase Buddhists follow the Nalanda Buddhists.
I do not support thuggery but neither do I support the take over of the country by non Buddhists such as yourself. You appear to be keen that the Sinhalese remain passive and yield to violent people.

  17. Marco Says:

I disagree. Right or wrong or morality has nothing to do with Religion. It’s how you are brought up (parental guidance) and respect for humans, self respect and dignity.
Perhaps, you like to tell me where in my last comment that you felt i was anti Sinhala (naturally apart from being a non Buddhist?) and follow the Nalanda path.
I regret to say, we are digressing from the main topic.

  18. Fran Diaz Says:

Human beings go in search of HAPPINESS. Wherever they find Peace, Joy, Security, Food, Acceptance, a sense of Growth, there they will go, there they will stay. In the absence of these mostly positive feelings, they will pick fights with people outside their immediate group or among themselves.
Sri Lankans enjoyed a relatively stable society, peace & some contentment before Colonisation. Colonisation & its rule by gun has brought in Globalisation and all its attendant woes of radical change, loss of self esteem, ‘money madness’, false egoism, foreign interference in local matters (to which Dr Keheliya R. has responded, it seems here), etc. On the positive side it has brought Democracy, modern day science & technology, different languages and introduced new ideas. It is up to us now to stabilise our society again and find some peace & happiness within the Democratic norms.
Personally, I like Dr Sudath Gunasekara’s ideas on a new Democracy which may ensure that each sector of society is led by the wisest and most life supportive and loyal to Sri Lanka. The Core Teachings of any religion will help grow toward peace & contentment/happiness.
