The Truth about 40,000 Dead Tamils in Last Stages of the War
Posted on February 13th, 2012

Kumar Moses

The 40,000 figure is cited by many with half knowledge as the number of civilians killed during the final stages of the war. Nothing can be further from the truth. There is conclusive evidence to show it is a mere number with no relevance to civilians and in fact most of the dead are LTTE armed cadres who tried to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”defendƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ LTTE control in Vanni.

This is a pro-LTTE claim made on February 17, 2009; three months before the war ended. Please note the date. LTTE invented the number well in advance ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”40,000 people prepared to die in battle if no ceasefire called (Tuesday, February 17, 2009)ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢

http://puligal.blogspot.com/2009/02/40000-people-prepared-to-die-in-battle.html

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Our reports from the Vanni indicate that tens of thousands of civilian defense force members have been mobilized to defend the Tamil people from the genocidal Sinhalese invasion currently underway. India is quickly looking for a way to diffuse the stand off, not having expected the Tamil civilians to take up arms against the Sri Lankan army. If there is a battle in which 40,000 Tamil civilians die defending their people, the Indian government will be held responsible by the citizens of Tamil Nadu.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

http://puligal.blogspot.com/2009/02/40000-people-prepared-to-die-in-battle.html

It is crystal clear LTTE terrorists fabricated the 40,000 number well before the end of the war.

The above newspaper clearly indicated that this 40,000, irrespective of the veracity of the number, to be armed LTTE terrorists fighting in plain clothing. It shows the extent of using human shields by the LTTE.

And it was over three months before the war ended!

Annihilated LTTE terrorist regiments account for the dead

The following LTTE brigades were totally annihilated in battles in the last phase of the war.

1. Malathi Brigade ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

2. Sothiya Brigade ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

3. Charles Anthony Regiment ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

4. Imran Pandian Regiment ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

5. Jeyanthan Brigade ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

6. Sea Tigers ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

7. Suicide Bomber Brigade ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

8. Victor Artillery Brigade ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

9. Kutti Sri Motar Brigade ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

10. Ellalan Force ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

11. Air Tigers and other ancillary brigades ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” annihilated

If each brigade was made up of 1,000 to 3,500 cadres, the eleven (11) brigades of the LTTE would have had 11,000 to 38,500 cadres who died fighting. However, more likely the real number of all dead during the last stages of the war is closer to the lower end and almost all of them were LTTE armed cadres.

Damn lies of UN staff

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-At the end of February 2009, the United Nations Country Team informed the Government that, in its view, there were 267,618 civilians present in the LTTE controlled area, basing the estimate, in part, on UNOSAT Quickbind and Worldview satellite images, used to count the number of IDP shelters. At the end of April, United Nations estimates were that 127,177 civilians still remained trapped, whereas the Government said there were only 10,000 persons left at the time. The number of IDPs who eventually emerged from the area and were housed at Menik Farm and in other camps was approximately 290,000. The discrepancy in these figures has not been adequately explained by the Government.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

Before February, only a very few civilians escaped LTTE jackboot and ran for safety in government controlled areas. Then the UN accused the LTTE for trapping civilians. Large movement of civilians occurred after this event.

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The total number of people who got into SL government control after the war was 282,380, according to UN update as of 10 July 2009.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=13&artid=33380

Incredibly, five months later, UN reported the total number of people who came from LTTE controlled areas was 282,380 which is 14,762 higher!

Who are they trying to mislead?

Of course the earlier number (on February 2009) was an estimate. But it has come very close to the real number. UN was involved in many humanitarian operations in LTTE controlled areas and they could have known the number of humans in LTTE controlled areas with reasonable accuracy.

At the very least, almost the total number of humans in LTTE controlled areas in February 2009 made it safely to government controlled areas. 40,000 is too big a number for the estimate to differ from the actual (which was higher than the estimate!).

    Good article.

    MoD take note!!

    40,000 was a number invented on 17 February 2009. Well before 19 may 2009.

    LOVELY!

“At the end of February 2009, the United Nations Country Team informed the Government that, in its view, there were 267,618 civilians present in the LTTE controlled area”

From February 2009 to July 2009 Tamil population in Vanni has INCREASED by a MASSIVE 14,762!!

Where are the 40,000 dead carcasses?

There is a proverb in SL – Buhul ora garen thene! (“you can find the pumpkin theif from his shoulder”)

I saw a part of one of those “panel discussions” recently featuring that dimwit Callum Macrae and some NGO type, I think from ICG (Malinda Seneviratne was given a token presence via what looked like Skype to make it seem ‘balanced’). There the guy from ICG was claiming these 40,000-75,000+ figures came from the difference between that tent counting estimate (which would have been 350,000+, according to him) and the actual IDPs at the end. It never ceases to amaze me how these people can peddle such lies with a straight face.

  3. Christie Says:

Where are the bodies of these Indian colonial parasites.

Were they eaten by the 300,000 Indian colonial parasites that ended up in the camps?

Today UNHCR boss, another Indian colonial parasite from KwaZulu Natal of South Africa is not happy about another Sinhalese individual.

  4. S de Silva Says:

Thanks Kumar for restating the details again. It was just yesterday (13/02/12) that Jon Snow from the (in)famous CH4 again quoted the 40,000 myth interviewing Navi Pillai. It is very unfortunae that CH4 is allowed to lie on Sri Lanka almost at will. I hope even at the 11th hour the SL HC in the UK forces CH4 to publish a correction even if we simply do not have the muscle to legally challenge the Tamil propagandists like CH4 – S deSilva – London

  5. S de Silva Says:

Also, if 40,000 were killed by the SL forces which is what is being implied it would be a practical impossibility to hide such a vast number of bodies – so where is the evidence? – S de Silva – London

So please tell me home many
Tamil civilians dead between Jan to 19 March 2009 ?
How many SL forces dead in this period ?
How many LTTE fighters dead in this period ?

    Thanks

    Thank You Kumar Moses!
It is time our Sri Lankan citizens in Sri Laka, spoke & contradict these absured figures, lies & dis-ibformation cycled & re-cycled by LTTE & other supporters of that group, forums, associations all adhere to the same lies to tarnish the image of our Motherland.

These well organized , well paid, individuals & groups continue to spread false propaanda to divert astrocities conducted by LTTE & some Tamils who are forced to support. From caste elite in Jaffna, these unimportant individuals get oppotunity to travel, at Govt. expense and continue to discredit Sri lanka.

Certain laws must be enacted to curtail, the language used by these individuals to get maximum exposure. Words such as Separatism, SELF rule, Federalism are all connotations to break up this paradise Island. Will Indians scream down here, without proper visting papers, some come as businessmen & stay their welcome, unless it is a heaven compared to India.

All these are problems associated with India who still supports LTTE & sister orgainizations, giving every reason to interfere with the workings of Sri Lanka. If a fishermn is arrested by Sri lankan NAVY, India demands release immediately, while our fisherman arrrested suffers in Andaman Islands( indian protectorate)for two years.

Wheres the JUSTICE & fair play that Indian Govt. tries to promote. Some call them parasites, I will call them NEW COLONIALS trying best to export more & more undesirables to Sri lanka, so that very soon Indians, tamils & all other submersive elements can de-stablize our Sovereignity, Independence and be a pawn of India like she is of USA & WEST.

Stand up, write letters, see your respective elected MPs, and make sure our Sri lankan Govt. not capitulate.

Tahnks again Kumar Moses for your valuable contribution. Other regular contributors like Shenali waduge, HLD Mahindapala, & many others should get together and plan to meet Sri lankan authorities and demand NOT to give in.

Thanks Kumar for the excellent article. Should get a copy sent to Navi Pillai and UE Human Rights Division

  12. Christie Says:

Great! India has not only armed its Tamil terrorist outfit; provided with Gas Chambers.

  13. helaya Says:

Well done Kumar. I am wondering why the government is not taking stern action against the UN report using this well documented evidence to repudiate the LTTE backed propaganda by the West. Last week Blake and other stupid woman (UN) went to Sri Lanka and thretented the government and came back. The our embesies in the West are have timid reactions. They do not use Sinhala duaspora propaly to counter these alligations.
    ThanksKumar, Keep writing

Stop Illegal Migration from Tamil Nadu and elsewhere.
Stop Illegal fisheries by Tamil Nadu fishermen.
Introduce an Oath of Allegiance for all true born Lankans.

Then the lies, cheat & deceit by ltte rumps/TNA/Tamil Diaspora will automatically stop. No one will be more thankful than true born Tamils of Lanka, and the rest of us.

  15. A. Sooriarachi Says:

Is their any purpose in trying to expose Tiger lies to Navi Pillai? Dont we see she is biaqsed and hell bent trying to push the Tiger agenda? Should we instead demand that she is unsuitable to hold the UNHCR position because of her biased attitude?

  16. Marco Says:

    Helaya,
    You ask
“why the government is not taking stern action against the UN report using this well documented evidence to repudiate the LTTE backed propaganda by the West.”
I think the word “credible” and with integrity comes to mind.
Not sure puligal/tamilnet/Lankaweb/Asian tribune is a risk GOSL is willing to take.
Ask the leading counsel supposed to taking legal action on C4.

  17. Lorenzo Says:

    Another joke from Marcos.

What credibility and integrity Channel 4 has!! MY FOOT!

  18. Fran Diaz Says:

A knowledgeable person in the UK told us that legal action cannot be taken by GoSL (which is an outside agent and not a part of the UK), against Ch.4. Only a citizen of the UK or an agency there can do so.

  19. Muhammad FS Says:

C4 can do a better job making documentaries about US war crimes and crimes against humanity in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Vietnam, Panama, Germany, North Korea, Nicaragua, etc.

  20. Christie Says:

Navanathum Pillayan (Navi Pillai), is a wll known Indian colonial parasite from South Africa. Ms Yasmin Sooka who wrote UNSG’s report is another Indian colonial parasite from South Africa.

I am not sure which one of these or is it another Indian colonial parasite who went around the world in 1984 after Zulus attacked some Indian colonial parasites and wrecked Mohandas Karamchands house; calling King Buthelezi “that little animal”.

  21. Marco Says:

No where in my comments above do i call CH4 being credible or with integrity.
If ones want to read and think that is so, it their problem not mine.
However, CH4 appear to have a wider coverage and not challenged robustly but with weak contradictions from all quarters.
Francis Harrison is to release a book in the next few weeks of her experience in Iran and Sri Lanka.
