India likely to back the US resolution to the UNHRC on accountability and reconciliation issues in Sri Lanka, to be taken up in Geneva this week, the government says that it is opposed to external monitoring of the implementation of the LLRC recommendations.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday told a joint sitting of parliament that his government was “inclined to vote in favour of the US Resolution if it covers our objectives, namely the achievement of a future for the Tamil community in Sri Lanka based on equality, dignity, justice and self respect.”

“We are still waiting for the final draft, but we intend to vote in its favour”, the Prime Minister, who is facing an ultimatum from the DMK, whose support is required to keep his government in power, had said, adding that “India has asked the Sri Lankan government to stand by its commitment to broaden the dialogue with political parties, including the Tamil National Alliance to achieve forward looking and meaningful devolution of power.”

Cabinet Spokesman and Acting Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said on Friday, that the US Resolution did not refer to war crimes, but inter alia calls for “another team” to monitor the implementation of the LLRCƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s recommendations, which was where the problem arose.

The crux of the resolution was that the eradication of terrorism should have been done in conformity with international law, refugees should have been protected and “Another Team” be appointed to monitor the implementation of the LLRCƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s recommendations, he said.

The involvement of external monitors in what should be an internal process was questionable, the Minister observed, while adding that such assistance could be requested if the need arose.

The government was ready to face the US resolution that was scheduled to be taken up at the UNHRC on March 23, Yapa said adding “I cannot say if we would win or lose. Some members have been influenced to vote against us. We are confident of receiving IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s support. Special envoys have been sent to canvass the support of countries, where Sri Lanka does not have diplomatic missions.”

The government was cooperating with the UNHRC, but would not be dictated to by local and foreign NGOs. Representatives of a particular NGO had arrived in Geneva and were receiving special treatment, he said.

The Minister said that the problems faced by the Tamils who were displaced by the war, would be speedily addressed.

Hundreds of thousands of Tamil people who suffer in Tamil Nadu due to caste/poverty problems have come illegally/legally to Sri Lanka because they feel they will have “more equality, dignity, justice and self respect.” Tamil people prefer to be even exiles in other countries where they have no citizenship and have to learn foreign languages, and also perform small jobs in those countries than be in their homeland. If TN provides a modicum of what Sri Lanka has already given to the Tamils of Sri Lanka, they would rush back there.

So there it is – where does the problem start and end ? In Tamil Nadu of course. Please fix the Root Cause of the Problem in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka will have no Separatist problems.

What a foolish thing to do?

What does it mean? Pressure works!
    What will happen? More pressure.

There is no doubt India/USA partnership. Sri Lanka must openly side and create a China/Russia partneship. This will be a huge service to the world. We cannot remail unaligened and survive. We must be China’s no1 trusted partner.

Unfortunately, these “bilateral relations” between Sri Lanka and India will NOT BE SUFFICIENT to induce India to confront the Tamil Racists of Tamil Nadu, when the survival of their own Governing Coalition is threatened by the withdrawal of TamilNadu support!

That is the BASIC REALITY of Indo-Sri Lankan relations that the good Minister G.L. Pieris, and the GOSL, must recognize, and prepare other ALLIANCES to DEFEND Sri Lanka against, IRRESPECTIVE of India’s Concerns.

India has been, and will ALWAYS be, an UNRELIABLE ALLY at best as long as TamilNadu politicians hold sway as KINGMAKERS in the Governance of India at the Centre.

This situation is no different from the KINGMAKER role that Tamil parties played in Sri Lanka not too long ago, pitting the SLFP against the UNP and denying both parties sufficient power to RULE IN THE NATIONAL INTEREST, and act decisively against the terrorism that plagued our country. It is only recently that the UPFA has been able to win a sufficient majority by rescuing the nation from the LTTE.

Our love for our Indian Cousins is NOT RETURNED, and has only brought us VAST DESTRUCTION. It promises to do so AGAIN, unless we break free from the Indian Embrace.

As such, Sri Lanka must now SEIZE THIS OPPORTUNITY to roll back Indo-Sri Lankan agreements inimical to Sri Lanka, such as the 13th Amendment imposed by India using the threat of military force, and to make Sri Lanka TRULY INDEPENDENT of this STIFLING INDIAN EMBRACE!

India WILL ALWAYS FEND FOR ITSELF; SO SHOULD Sri Lanka!

Therefore, to India we should bid adieu in verse:

We long wooed your daughter, but our suit you denied.

Love swells like the Solway, and ebbs like its tide!

    VAYA CON DIOS, India!

India is being taken for a ride by the evil imperialist geniuses in England and the United States. Well they have been suckered once by England who ruled them for nearly 300 years and created the powerful corporate combine the The East India Company. So can we expect the Indians despite 5000 years of civilisation, some of the most intelligent people in the world who live in India. Find it hard to get out under the yoke of British Colonialism. Their mentality is subservience to the British and Americans. Despite India having a space program, a huge army, strong economic growth and nuclear weopons. The British Elite certainly did a number on the Indians. So they will be the useful idiots of the British and American Imperialism in Asia. I certainly hope I am proved wrong. Hopefully they will support Sri Lanka. If they do we will know India is finally getting its pride back after being subjugated by the British Oligarchy for 300 years.
