Appalling Double Standards of Australian Councils on TGTE and SLRF Meetings

Transitional Government of Tamil Elam (TGTE) held a meeting at the Homebush Boys School in Homebush, New South Wales, Australia. Concerned Sri Lankans living in Australia sought the permission of the Strathfield Council to hold a protest near the venue. However, their request was turned down by the Council citing that it is a residential area.

Sri Lankans also notified Australian authorities of the possibility of collecting funds for the TGTE and connected organisations at the event. However, no apparent action has been taken so far.

However less than a month ago when the Sri Lankan Reconciliation Forum (SLRF) in Australia held a meeting in Epping, New South Wales, Australia, Tamil groups were allowed to protest near the Epping Leisure Centre where the meeting was held. It is also a residential area. Scant regard was pad to the fact that the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Australia, Admiral Tissara Samarasinghe was participating. Absurd allegations were made against him by Tamil elements.

Australians of Sri Lankan origin living in Sydney are appalled by this duplicity of two different councils treating similar matters differently. Australian authorities should not have allowed Tamil protestors to insult his Excellency the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Australia, Admiral Tissara Samarasinghe onƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ March 25, 2012 at the Sri Lankan Reconciliation Forum. It showed they are incapable of reconciling with the rest of the Sri Lankan community. Alternatively Sri Lankans should have been allowed to protest the TGTE event.

The ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-prime ministerƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ of TGTE is Visvanathan Rudrakumaran who represented the LTTE in peace talks with the government of Sri Lanka. LTTE remains a banned terrorist organisation in over 30 countries including USA and India even after its military defeat in 2009.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

  1. Ratanapala Says:

All very well said but it is very clear now that the Western Christian powers are acting with impunity. They have no standards on either Human RIghts nor Democracy they so highly toot about. Sri Lanka simply has to buckle up and do her own thing to face up to these powers and current political realities. No amount of finger pointing will dissuade these powers from what they are doing. They have clear objectives which they want to achieve by any means. We must strengthen our military and most importantly sell grave nature of the threat we are facing to the nation and get them on board.

Western Christian powers know very well that there is collateral damage in armed conflicts. The reason why they are angry is simply that their covert plan to dismember Sri Lanka through their catspaw the Christian LTTE did not succeed and they got a bloody nose to boot. Their plans for South Asia are long standing and are to continue for the foreseeable future till their economic and military objectives are achieved; in Sri Lanka’s context the balkanization of India through the creation of Eelam! India knows this too, but the sick Indian leadership want to hang on to power at any cost, hook or by crook. For this the Indians are being fed with a false Imperialist dream of Greater India. It is this dream that keeps the fragile unity of this colonial construct that is India of today. Conflicts with neighbors is the short sighted Indian policy to create that centrifugal force.

In the meantime, the UPFA politicians must get their act together. If the President is not able to charter a clear path and get the people on board this may be the last time Sri Lanka will be able to call herself Sri Lanka. History has bestowed on President Rajapakse two alternatives. He can either become a lasting hero in the category of King Dutu Gemunu or King Wijayabahu I and similar others in our illustrious history, or he can become a zero like , Marcos, Suharto, Hosni Mubarak and Gadaffi or closer to home even JR!

He must get away from the corrupting influence of Colombo and Columbians, put his thinking cap on and consider how he would be thought of when he is no longer in power. Nobody can last forever, but one can live forever as a loved hero of a nation in history. In doing so, like his afore mentioned predecessors, he too can keep and maintain the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka intact – a task which our forefathers fought hard and kept intact for over 2550 years.
