H.E.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Bruce Levy
Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka
Gregory Road, Colombo 7, Sri Lanka.

Your Excellency:

I was a bit baffled reading the last paragraph of Sandasen MarasingheƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s report in The Island of August 18, 2012 in which it says, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-He (Bruce Levy) said Sri Lanka and Canada maintained friendly ties even before Sri Lanka achieved independence and Canada never promoted terrorism.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

The latter part of the statement was rubbish and not factual.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I am sure you may have been wearing your diplomatic hat and gown when you spoke to the reporter, as Bruce Levy the honest man, I thought would never have spoken those disingenuous words.

Of course, yes, Sri Lanka and Canada maintained friendly ties even before Sri Lanka achieved independence and that was once upon a time, long, long time ago.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  And as you know as many of us know, all that came to a full stop when Canada opened its flood gates for the Tamil refugees after the July 1983 riots and then the two countries friendship began to rot. And it now smells like a dead cod on a Maritime shore on a hot summerƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s day.

When the Tamils began to stream through the flood gates at airports and border posts, lying their way in saying they have been discriminated and persecuted by the Sri Lankan Government and its majority Sinhalese people, not revealing that they were indeed the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”privileged minorityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ since the colonial days, which the First Nation and Inuit peoples of Canada have never been or would ever be.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The Canadian parliamentarians from all parties saw these Tamil refugees not as allegedly persecuted human beings with lost souls that needed protection, but as votes that they would be entitled to after receiving their permanent residency.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  With that distorted vision, Sri Lanka lost its friendship with Canada, its good Commonwealth friend and sister nation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  And Sri Lanka was bashed by Canada at every international forum and in parliament. And that is the rub, Mr. High Commissioner, and I would be lying to you if I do not admit that I resent that fall out, instigated by lies by 95% of Tamil convention refugees who had no qualms to buy a plane ticket to return to Colombo from where they ran away from no sooner they receive their Canadian passport.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You know these facts and much as I do. Former Canadian High Commissioner Ruth Archibald admitted to that fact in a statement that these refugee claimants fly over to Sri Lanka for their holidays.

Here is a partial backgrounder to establish my point that you were dishonest in your statement that Canada and Sri Lanka are still good friends and ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Canada never promoted terrorism.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

  1. Once Canada was represented by Nancy Stiles as the High Commissioner who was most unfriendly towards Sri Lanka and who may have thought that she was representing Canada in Velupillai PrabhakaranƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Kingdom of Eelam. That certainly wasnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ gesture was it now?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Read herƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  confidential reports on Sri LankaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to DFAIT and you will gather what I say;
  2. When the Canadian Parliament had an ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Emergency Debate on Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ in its chambers on the evening of Wednesday, February 4, 2009, which I christened as the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Canadian Parliamentary Tamil Blarney Gong ShowƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, it certainly wasnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t to tell the Sri Lankans, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Hey! Canada is a friend of your countryƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You canƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t fool Sri Lanka whose 92% of its population are literates and they understand when a foreigner is fibbing.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That was a sick joke on ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ as that evening Canadian parliamentarians played to the gallery which was sardine packed with Tamils, the majority bused from Toronto, who were cheering at every word that bashed Sri Lanka, while they exhibited their Vote flash cards to the MPs down below.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That evening, Canada which was supposed to have had ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ with Sri Lanka bludgeoned her with ice-hockey sticks and baseball bats and spat at her.

That was the evening when the LiberalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Terrible 5 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Derek Lee, Jim Karygiannis, Albina Guaneiri, Judy Sgro and Robert Oliphant accused Sri Lanka of genocide of Tamils.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  What a group of liars who was supposed to be representing Canada with ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ with Sri Lanka. They had no way of proving it and were proved to be a bunch of liars when the Sri Lankan soldiers liberated 294,000 Tamils who were herded by Tamil Tigers like unwashed cattle over 30 months from the west coast to the east coast as human shields and not killed a single. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These Tamil Tigers butts were whipped and finally eliminated on 19 May 2009 in the muddy waters of the Nandikadal lagoon. You know that fact as much as I do.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  But what is sickening is that yours and my ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ Canada didnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t have the honesty and courtesy to acknowledge this Human Rights Class Act performance by Sri Lanka and its soldiers.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Sri Lanka prepared a million meals a day to feed these liberated Tamils three hearty meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, to keep them alive and give them a life, a humanitarian act which does not equate to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-genocideƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ as suggested by the LiberalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Terrible 5.

  1. Then, of course, the supposed to be ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ CanadaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Foreign Minister, John Baird goes to the UN and does his song and dance addressing the Security Council lambasting Sri Lanka for alleged human rights violations.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That is not being friendly, is it High Commissioner?

The pit-bull remarks by our Foreign Minister John Baird once said with an impatient toneƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  about Sri Lanka, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Other countries have taken 10 years for reconciliation, other countries never reconcileƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦but itƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s incredibly important.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  So he talks of an island that went through a debilitating hellish war for 27 bloody years where we saw 100,000 innocent peoples killed by the Tamil Tigers to be reconciled in two years.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Of course he was right about other countries, butƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  what he forgot during his ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-We are Holier than ThouƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ sermon toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the Sri Lankan government is that Canada took 47 years to reconcile with the Japanese-Canadians, when Prime Minister Brian Mulroney apologized to them in parliament announcing with a compensation package on September 22, 1988.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Among the Japanese-Canadian kids who were sent to internment camps after the Pearl Harbour bombing by the Japanese were David Suzuki (environmentalist), Joy Kogawa (writer), Roy Miki (poet) and Norman Takeuchi (National Museum designer and artist).ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

The Minister, by the way said that the address at the UN reflectedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the information that his ministry was receiving from CanadaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Mission in Colombo. If that was indeed the case, do I smell a rat at your Mission who has done every thing under the tropical sun to dull the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ between the two Commonwealth sister nations. I believe that all this nonsense was to appease the Canadian Tamil community for the Conservatives to garner their votes toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ return toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ parliament as a majority the next time around.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Right, High Commissioner Levy?

  1. HereƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s another incident to prove that you were disingenuous when you said that Sri Lanka and Canada maintained ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ even before Sri Lanka got its independence, which I say is a bunch of baloney strung on a hook in a stall at OttawaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ByWard Market.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  There was nothing ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”friendlyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ about ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ with Sri Lanka when CanadaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Prime MinisterƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Stephen Harper went about trying to screw, intimidate and embarrass Sri Lanka when he said, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-I intend to make clear to my fellow leaders of the Commonwealth that if we do not see progress in Sri Lanka in terms of human rights and some of the issues that you raised, I will not as Prime Minister be attending that Commonwealth summit.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Do you know whom he was addressing then?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It was the September 9 round table event with the ethnic media where Tamils were represented.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Surely, Mr. High Commissioner,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  are you trying to tell me/us that Canada believes that it hasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the GodƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s gift to humanity? ShishƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦.! Not when you know, Harper knows and I know that the native peoples of Attawapiskat in the Northern Reserve needs houses, respect and a future.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Sri Lanka has given all that to the 294,000 Tamils they liberated from the Tamil Tiger claws on May 19, 2009, and also gaveƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  back the 21 million Sri Lankans their right-to-life which was hijacked by the Tamil Tigers for 27 bloody years within three years of the Tamil Tigers demise. So where does your statement ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦Sri Lanka and Canada maintained friendly tiesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ fit in our morality barometer?

  1. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ And you said ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦and Canada never promoted terrorismƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  If that was supposed to be a sick joke then I missed it.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Surely, donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t you believe that Canada was indeed part of Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Tamil terrorismƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  problem that prolonged that separatist war to enter its 27th year, before the Tamil Tigers were militarily eliminated on 19th May 2009.

Surely, not after Canada let the Tamil Tigers posing as the Bangladeshi Army used its Canadian accounts of a Tamil sympathizer to cut a cheque for $7 ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚½ million from a Vancouver Bank to buy 50 tonnes of TNT and 10 tonnes of RDX explosives from the Rubezhone Chemical Plant in the Ukraine in 1994 and shipped it by freighter to Sri Lanka to be used by the Tamil Tiger terrorists.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Those were the explosives that were used in a truck bomb to bring down the Central Bank Building in the Fort in Colombo, killing 114 people and maiming for life another 1,338 on 31 January 1996.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I call this act blatant terrorism aid and abetted by Canada.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I am not sure what you would call it, having stated that ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Canada never promoted terrorismƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.

Surely, not after Canada for 13 long years during the Liberal PartyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s rule of Canada, let the Tamil Diaspora stuff $2 million dollars a month into the Tamil Tiger war chest to keep replenishing a sophisticated armoury to fight their terrorist war back home.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I call this terrorism, Mr. High Commissioner.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I am not sure what you would call it, having sated that ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Canada never promoted terrorism.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I have difficulty to swallow that hocus-pocus statement.

Surely, not after the two Liberal cabinet Ministers Paul Martin (Finance) and Maria Minna (CIDA) with several of their backbenchers forked out $60 for a plate of food to contribute to the Tamil Tiger Fund organized by FACT which happened in Toronto on May 6, 2000. I call it promoting terrorism in Sri Lanaka, and what would call it High Commissioner Levy?

With these backgrounders I hope I opened your eyes to what really happened and that Canada was indeed part of Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s TamilƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Tiger terrorism.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  What is ugly about this episode while you have, as a diplomat, decided to promote and perpetuate that Canadian ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”We are Holier than ThouƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ Humbug,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  it is not that Canada cares two prairie straws about Sri Lankans but that they care about themselves wanting the Tamil votes to enter parliament, perhaps with a majority. It is that simple and one doesnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t need to be a rocket scientist to figure that sleaziness of Canada’s unfriendliness towards Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  And I wonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t be surprised if you get the response ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Who the hell cares about Canada as they are no friends of oursƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ from the majority of Sri Lankans.

High Commissioner Bruce Levy, as I still want to believe that you are an honest man, that you will have that wee bit of gumption to state the truth about Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s post Eelam terrorism and give Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Peace a Chance that her peoples rightfully deserve.

Have a happy retirement and I wish you well.

Sincerely,

Asoka Weerasinghe (Mr.)

There is nothing more that HE. Bruce Levy could hear loud and clear about his false pretense and the media misguidance he had provided to the TV and Media reporters who had interviewed and published the interviews without verifying the truth (violation of journalistic ethics/code of conduct). Much more can be penned about this diplomat and the image about his PR and Media manipulations – a very good example of “Running with the Fox and hunting with the hounds”, sneaker relations he has maintained with the anti-Sri Lankan lobbies and the politicians and officials of the government of Sri Lanka, which is surfacing now. Freelance Journalist Asoka Weerasinghe has really brought out the deceptions and has been bold to be so daring in challenging the incumbent Canadian High Commissioner with real facts and references of recent historic records to support his arguments that the High Commissioner was really lying. This is an article worth being published in the Weekend publications for interested readers, both in Sri Lanka and the Canadian Foreign Ministry to sit down in leisure and read the facts about the falsehood committed by Canadian High Commissioner Bruce Levy in telling his pretentive praise about the “friendly ties” and “Canada never promoted terrorism” oral defamation. Freelance Journalist Asoka Weerasinghe of Ottawa, Canada has proven the ability of the might of Freelance Journalism. High Commissioner Bruce Levy has to tender an apology to Sri Lanka if he cannot defend Journalist Asoka Weerasinghe’s article and give Sri Lanka’s Peace a chance that her people rightfully deserve.

Three Hearty Cheers to Asoka for this brilliant article!

It is also unfortunate that the Canadian Embassy in Sri Lanka is very unfriendly when it comes to issuing Visa to Sinhalese and especially to Buddhist Monks. They have rejected Visa for many genuine Buddhist Monks who have applied for Travel Visa to Canada.

There is a genuine need and thurst in Canada for teachings of higher level of Dhamma and for refreshing sermons. Unfortunately, what we learn is that the Visa of most of the Buddhist Monks have been rejected by the Canadian High Commission in Sri Lanka. It is a very difficult task to convince a Buddhist Monk to visit Canada. But, even after convincing and the deities making all the arrangements for these Monks to visit Canada, their Visa get rejected.

On the other hand, any Tamil politician who wants to promote Eelam or attend conferences and fund-raising events sponsored by the Tamil Tiger Fronts in Canada get their Visa without any issue whatsoever. That is heart-breaking.

Canada is a great country with great people with a very civilised society. However, greedy and naive politicians and policy-makers misled by LTTE Lobby makes them deviate from their true Canadian norms and values. That is what taking place in Canada.

when sinhalese applied visa to come to western countries for bitter job oppotunities like indian chinese, pakistanis, bangalidashis, arabs african and south american in 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s, sinhalese were rejected in all western countries because it is part of western war strategy began in 50s. And if sinahalese were allowed large number, by 80s sinhales could well established bushinesses, world media connection and political root in the west and other part of the world and west could not have help tamil to stablish global espionage net work and west could not hold sinhalese as hostage impose conspiratorial program on sinhalese, WEst prepare conspiratorial programs around the world thirty to 50 years earlier. A very few sinhalese who came by them-self were allowed but tactical sinhalese were bared into western countries on the advice of spies.

  4. jayt Says:

I met one Canadian women who was sent to sri lanka on a spy mission in 1983 by a western based spy groups.

She was one of many women who has been organizing groups meeting in canada to promote hatred against Sinhalese right in front me. I happened to be that day with a group of students from Carleton University on a holiday and she came for meeting with them to ask help from Canadian to support tigers.

this women was very avenge full toward sinhalese and this is my first time. i learned that canada has hate mongering women and men and that day I realized that western countries hide something not only sri lanka but the whole

However, Students were pretty innocent and were wondering about this women feeling and they questioned by themselves as to why this woman suddenly jumped in and start hate against Sinhalese which was a joke to this students who had no idea who is sinhalese?

And in the same day, this student found out who she was. Her parents were serving British colony in india and africa as military officers.
now this students know who is sinhalese and why she hate sinhalese. Also, west spies were sending many women
from canada and europe to sri lanka as tiger supporters to insult ,look down and laugh at sinhalese

  6. M.S.MUDALI Says:

Buddhist monks were collecting addresses of Tamil residents before the 1983 riots. The 1983 anti-Tamil riots was pre-planned with the support of the then Dharmista UNP government. Not a single Sinhala criminal was prosecuted by the Sri Lankan government. Buddhist monks never asked to prosecute the killers and robbers of Tamils.

World know how Sinhala racism works. Later UNP and LTTE had their honey moon and went against any peace. The honey moon still continue with Sambanthan and Ranil.

Many Canadians know what is Buddhism but they dont know anything about Sinhala-Buddhism. Yellow robes are not enough to claim as a Buddhist monk. The good image of the Monks started to erode since the murder of S.W.R.D.Bandaranayke. Those who read the book of Judge Alles on the murder of SWRD know how Buddha Rakita behaved and used Kelani Vihara as his greedy, murder planning place. In Sri Lanka Buddhism is politicized but Buddha gave up “throne” and political power. Now Monks have a political party.

Canadian White people are always wondering how Sri Lankan monks enjoy life in Benz cars and they know how the monks in Thailand, Nepal, Cambodia and other countries start their days with the begging bowl.

So, the monks are refused Visas because Canadians know their Canadian visit is not for “enlightenment” but for enjoyment.

Buddhist leaders must take actions to bring back the respect of the Buddhist monks and Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

    Asoka:
You better cry about the UNP Sinhalese and their involvement with LTTE to promote terror in their own country against their own people. UNP gave a new life to LTTE to continue their terror when IPKF tried to finish it. LTTE survived another 20 years because of the DHAANAYA given by UNP Sinhalese.

In my view the 1983 riot was a joint venture of UNP and LTTE. I noticed how the LTTE killed the government informents and the Tamil police officers. UNP regularly supplied information to LTTE about Tamils who worked against LTTE.

Promoting LTTE terrorism was mainly done by Sinhalese for their own purposes. So, what is the point of blaming others?

  7. Fran Diaz Says:

Who really benefitted from the 1983 Riots ? Certainly not the Sinhala people.

  8. Fran Diaz Says:

    Here’s the Formula :

50-50 > Federalism > Separatism through Violence (Vaddukoddai Resolution, 1976) > 1983 Riots > Mass migration to the west. Lessons Learnt, indeed.

  9. Lorenzo Says:

    Agree with Jayt.

Until 1983 Canada refused to take in others but Tamils were accepted in hundreds of thousands.

July 1983 riot was done by Tamils for the benefit of Tamils.

In other riots tens of thousands of people die but in July 1983 riot VERY FEW Tamils died!!

ALL police chiefs in Colombo were Tamils!! They supported their plan.

If not for the Tamil-created 1983 riot, Tamils would be poor and restricted to poor parts of SL. LTTE would not have even $1 !!! Only MGR’s useless Indian rupees.

  10. Lorenzo Says:

    Mu-Dalit,

“Buddhist monks were collecting addresses of Tamil residents before the 1983 riots. The 1983 anti-Tamil riots was pre-planned with the support of the then Dharmista UNP government. Not a single Sinhala criminal was prosecuted by the Sri Lankan government. Buddhist monks never asked to prosecute the killers and robbers of Tamils.”

Buddhist monks never collected any address. Don’t talk your racist rubbish.

    ONLY Tamils knew Tamil addresses.

The 1983 riot was NOT anti-Tamil, it was PRO-TAMIL!!

No Sinhala was punished because no Sinhala was DIRECTLY involved in the riot. It was done by Sinhala and Tamil speaking Tamils.

Those who saw the black skinned Tamil rioters in Wellawatte say they beat their chests shouting NAAN THAMILA (I’m Tamil).

UNP was involved in the 1958, 1977 and 1983 riots because Tamil leaders gave them money to support it.

  11. M.S.MUDALI Says:

    Lorenzo:
You think others are fools to believe your rotten talks. You are one of the beneficiary of the 1983 riots. That is why you cry to do the same again!

2.6 millian Tamil = 1.6m left over(waiting to kill or migrate) +0.80 migrated +0.20 killed (inclued .04m in May 2009)!!

    is it worth ???

  14. Dham Says:

    Mudali,
“Buddhist monks never collected any address. Don’t talk your racist rubbish.” – agreed with Loren(Z)0.

“You think others are fools to believe your rotten talks. You are one of the beneficiary of the 1983 riots. That is why you cry to do the same again!” – agreed with MuDalit.

If 1983 was created by some Tamils, those murderers are using Zionist tactics. Loren(Z)o too promote the same tactics. It is written in black and white in Lanka Web.

This kind of murderous suggestions and language should be condemned.

The same tactics used by murderer Parayakaran. That is why 1983 riots is called “orchastred by Tamils”.

  15. Dham Says:

Unfortunately for Tamils, now world think Tamils= LTTE = Parayakaran.
This is not right but when BBC, Ch4 say “thousands of innocent Tamils killed” they mean LTTE fighters killed.

Whatever it is all forms of killing shall be condemned.
Whether mureders were done by CIA, LTTE, KGB, RAW , PREMADSA or PONSEKA, all killing of innocent people of any shall be condemned.

Lorenzo- what happing here Loreno My chinhala brothers !!! Abey kiya Abi enna !!!!

  17. Fran Diaz Says:

    Andy,

You say : “is it worth ??? “. The answer is an emphatic “NO” !
We could have all achieved a lot in a more peaceful manner, using the Democratic system. Since Sri Lanka is a Socialist Democracy giving Free Education & Health care, we ought to have been able to erase the inequalities in our society in a less aggressive manner. Sri Lankans could have used the system itself to further better their lives, whilst safeguarding the entire Nation.

As matters stand, Sri Lankans themselves have weakened themselves, exposing their fault lines of Caste & Class to the entire world, and the world will use these exposures to their own advantage, and may further weaken the Nation and us all in the process. We have nearly ‘killed the goose that lays the golden eggs’. However, it is not too late, we hope, to continue with Trust building. Once broken, it is very hard to build Trust between people, anywhere in the world. I have met Europeans who still cannot trust the German nation as they, in their confusion and agony, brought in two world wars.

On the plus side, we can recognise and work on our own faults and erase them gradually. It’s the same for all human beings. Things will be better, but not perfect. I don’t mean to sound ‘preachy’ here, but have no other way to say what matters. Saying things is easy, putting it to actual practice is much harder. But it is REALLY WORTHWHILE trying for good health & happiness, in a sincere way. Each Nation is worth the sum total of its individuals. Can we do it ?

  18. Fran Diaz Says:

    Andy,

Also pls don’t forget that the 1983 Riots took place in the middle of the Cold War politics in the world. Since JRJ leaned far west, regional security concerns were not addressed. Hence the exaggerated Riots of 1983. In the 1983 Riots, Drugs played a part too (saw this with our own eyes). In present times, Drug related arrests have increased in Sri Lanka. Who is trying similar scenarios to destabilize Sri Lanka ?

Sri Lanka can never lean too far west or east. That is a ground reality.

  19. M.S.MUDALI Says:

1983 riots was organized and operated by Sinhalese only. Those Tamils who believed “Sinhalese are good people” and lived among Sinhalese were killed brutally.

UNP and Tamil parties always have the “same master” in the West. Their politics is always RACIST and they believe it(riots) help both.

Sinhalese who are so knowledgeable about 1983 riots, are still struggling to explain why UNP supported LTTE criminals.

Now the Sinhalese (lorenzo) with the same mind set publicly crying against the Tamils in Colombo. This kind of moronic thinking never help Sri lankan people. Sometime this kind of donkey thinking will pave the way for a real invasion of Indian forces. “Double Crossing” of Sinhala politicians won’t work in the future. If India invades, no one will cry for Sri Lanka!

Colombo become the TRANSIT TERMINAL of drugs from Afghanistan from the UNP times. Drugs come from Kochin(kerala) to the western coast of Sri Lanka. Even during the time of LTTE, drugs were coming through Tamil Nadu. Now the Koodang Kulam nuclear reactor problem and opposition to it come from the smugglers because the Indian government handed over the security to the Indian forces. The smugglers are unable to use the Tamil nadu coastal area now. The shortage of drugs created problems in Colombo and suburbs.

The drug business has the blessings of many ruling party politicians in Sri Lanka. For example, Duminda was a UNP man and well known person with drugs. His cross-over to UPFA is questionable.

Sri Lanka’s Income Tax Services is another lame duck. If it works with full energy, many smugglers and politicians cannot beome welthy and powerful.

any excusees western infuluance, drugs dealers,….. not main reson for this 1983 riots !

Also as a Sri Lankan (not as Tamil) I can undrestand valied reson for this riots , Tamil were holding major to minor business & reating sinhala people very badly waster than Dog( sorry to use word)
eg: my child hood my own experiance in a Tamil Thosa Kadai ( Colombo 10) a sinhala poor person ate couple of dosa with out money he has been beaten by at least 5 Tamil people in day light .I was 10 years old that day I realised one day these Tamil will be chased out from colombo (if God is up there)! I was not wrong !!!

  21. Fran Diaz Says:

My intent is to uncover the truth. My intent is to set the nation free of untruth and liberate ourselves, including Tamil people, into a future free of deceit. Since we were there in Lanka during the Riots and were witness to events there, we feel we have a right to defend ourselves and the nation.

We do not think that the 1983 Riots were organised solely by the Sinhala people. There were Tamil people (at different levels of society) who were involved. We think also that the Catholic church was involved too. The Catholic church is still involved mainly through various Tamil priests (e.g. Rev. Emmanuel in Canada), and Rev. Reyappu Joseph visibly so during ltte tenure of N&E.

There is a Caste/Class struggle going on among Tamil people, both in Tamil Nadu & Sri Lanka. I am not surprised that the church is involved. Illegal Tamil migrants from Tamil Nadu have only exacerbated these problems in Sri Lanka.

Let’s recap some salient facts about the 1983 Riots, lest we forget. These facts are known to most of us. I am merely piecing them together to make some sense of the confusion. If confusion reigns, untruth flourishes. Our aim is to remove all untruth.

    * The bodies of the 13 soliders killed in Jaffna by the ltte were not taken to their homes in the villages as is usual done in the Army. Instead, the bodies were brought to Kanatta Cemetery in Colombo, after a great deal of delay. This made the relatives waiting for the funerals very restive. These people had no rest place, no toilets or food and they waited an entire day in the precincts of the cemetery. It was easy to inflame these people and that was how the so called riots ‘started’. Question: who adviced JRJ to hold the funerals at Kanatta when the Army Commdr. of that time adviced otherwise ?

    * Some Sinhala people were dressed up in white jatawas & tucked up white sarongs (in the old Dolawa carrier style), carried long wooden poles and were drugged (staring, unseeing eyes). They appeared to be dressed for filming. Films were done of the Riots and these films shown in the west by three Tamil ambassadors in key places, Lukshmi Naganathan in Bonn (Germany), Moorthy (London, UK) & Balachandran (Paris, France).

    * Mr Douglas Wickremasinghe of UK vouched for the fact that Tamils were leading gangs to destroy Tamil homes in the Wellawatte area.

    * Many Sinhala people helped Tamils escape, risking their own lives as gangs roamed Colombo for about 3 days before curfew was declared by the government. We ourselves brought to our home a Tamil girl from our office. She was a Jaffna Tamil person. She said that she was told that Sinhala people had homes with marble floors and was surprised that we were vegetarians and lived simply. Her home was not burnt but homes on either side of her home were burnt. She was a Catholic. Did list the carriers spare her home as it was a Catholic home ?

    * Why was the Papal Nuncio evicted a few days after the Riots by the government, as stated by one of the writers to these columns in a previous article ?

    * Then Labor Minister Cyril Mathew was involved in the Riots. To what extent we do not know.

    * Labor Union leader Shanmuganathan (Shan), was a close friend of JRJ. He was with JRJ at the time JRJ passed away.

Thus, we may be led conclude that Labor was involved in the Riots in some way or the other.

  22. Fran Diaz Says:

    Andy,

What PROOF have you that the Riots of 1983 were conducted SOLELY by the Sinhala people ?

  23. lingamAndy Says:

    Fran Diaz
SOLELY by the Sinhala people – JRJ excuted his master plan! ( Helped as LTTE’s master planed to recrute more people)!

    * Many Sinhala people helped Tamils escape- 100% correct (including my father ) as always !

  24. lingamAndy Says:

    Fran Diaz
SOLELY by the Sinhala people – NO , Cyril’s labor, 13 army angry relatives, hon Amathrows with list of Tamil man,Local Tamils/ Malayalis/Muslims theives …. so many people paly the part) so we can not blam for all Sinhala people for this !

end of the day Our main both heros JRJ & LTTE achived their objective !!! We people paid heavy price !!!

ok, pass is pass ,what happing in mother lanka is not helpful ????

  25. lingamAndy Says:

Mahinda Raja coming to parliment for 10 minutes by helihabter !!! Chines & Indian are doing our daily labor job !!!
IMF & China & India lending more We required to Mother lanka !!!
Have We found oil in Mannar ????
some thing is not matching here ???

  26. Fran Diaz Says:

    Andy,

We Agree with what you say i.e. “SOLELY by the Sinhala people – NO , Cyril’s labor, 13 army angry relatives, hon Amathrows with list of Tamil man,Local Tamils/ Malayalis/Muslims theives …. so many people paly the part) so we can not blam for all Sinhala people for this !”

Time to go Within and Meditate for Peace Within. When we are at Peace Inside, the Outside too will be Peaceful – Caste & Class does not matter to achieve the Union with Truth/God/Allah, Within. All are truly “Equal” ONLY inside ourselves.

Talking about Zionists read what they say.

“We must expel Arabs and take their places.”
    — David Ben Gurion, 1937, Ben Gurion and the Palestine Arabs, Oxford University Press, 1985.

“There is no such thing as a Palestinian people… It is not as if we came and threw them out and took their country. They didn’t exist.”
    — Golda Meir, statement to The Sunday Times, 15 June, 1969.

“How can we return the occupied territories? There is nobody to return them to.”
    — Golda Meir, March 8, 1969.

“We walked outside, Ben-Gurion accompanying us. Allon repeated his question, What is to be done with the Palestinian population?’ Ben-Gurion waved his hand in a gesture which said ‘Drive them out!”
    — Yitzhak Rabin, leaked censored version of Rabin memoirs, published in the New York Times, 23 October 1979.

“[The Palestinians] are beasts walking on two legs.”
    — Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, speech to the Knesset, quoted in Amnon Kapeliouk, “Begin and the ‘Beasts,”‘ New Statesman, June 25, 1982.

“The settlement of the Land of Israel is the essence of Zionism. Without settlement, we will not fulfill Zionism. It’s that simple.”
    — Yitzhak Shamir, Maariv, 02/21/1997.

“(The Palestinians) would be crushed like grasshoppers … heads smashed against the boulders and walls.”
    — Isreali Prime Minister (at the time) Yitzhak Shamir in a speech to Jewish settlers New York Times April 1, 1988

“The Palestinians are like crocodiles, the more you give them meat, they want more”….
    — Ehud Barak, Prime Minister of Israel at the time – August 28, 2000. Reported in the Jerusalem Post August 30, 2000

“Everybody has to move, run and grab as many (Palestinian) hilltops as they can to enlarge the (Jewish) settlements because everything we take now will stay ours…Everything we don’t grab will go to them.”
    — Ariel Sharon, Israeli Foreign Minister, addressing a meeting of the Tsomet Party, Agence France Presse, Nov. 15, 1998.

“Israel may have the right to put others on trial, but certainly no one has the right to put the Jewish people and the State of Israel on trial.”
    — Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, 25 March, 2001 quoted in BBC News Online

Zionists are active in Srilanka too. We have to be very careful. Limited application of Sharia Law to willing people should be done to stop them. There is no other way to stop them.
