“Sri Lanka has not honoured commitments made to India” – TNA Leader
Posted on October 22nd, 2012

The latest in the series of anti-Sri Lanka statements and pronouncements by the Leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is that Sri Lanka has not honoured its commitments made to India and the international community vis-ƒÆ’†’ƒ”š‚ -vis the 13th Amendment, according to media reports on 22 October.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The whole world knows, although many are not ready to admit, that the 13th Amendment to the constitution of the sovereign nation of Sri Lanka was not something that the Sri Lankan people ever conceived or wanted. It was merely an unnecessary and ill-advised ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”solutionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ that was thrust upon a hapless Sri Lanka by a bully from a neighbouring country who wanted to throw his weight around. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The 13th Amendment did not solve any of the so-called problems that it purported to solve, instead giving rise to provincial councils, and with them their governors and ministers, that poor Sri Lanka could ill afford. Additionally, people of the calibre of the parliamentarians of the TNA have found the 13th Amendment a convenient weapon to vilify Sri Lanka at every possible forum.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Actions agreed upon under duress are not admissible in the courts of law of any civilised country. When the then President of Sri Lanka was forced to sign the Indo-Sri Lanka Pact, there were Indian warships moored just outside Colombo and Rajiv Gandhi had completed his infamous parippu drop over Jaffna, violating Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s airspace.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lanka is not under any obligation whatsoever to honour anything in the 13th Amendment.
Additionally, it does not have to satisfy India or the so-called international community which comprises a handful of affluent Western nations, among whom are those that were in the forefront in plundering the resources of todayƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s poor nations including Sri Lanka for nearly half a millennium.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The apt repository for the 13th Amendment is a garbage dump. All peace-loving Sri Lankans will no doubt wholeheartedly support the statements attributed to Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse wherein he is reported to have said that the 13th Amendment should be scrapped.

For months on end, contributors to this web site have implored, that the Government should repeal the 13th Ammendment. NOW, THE DEFENCE SECRETARY HAS SUGGESTED THAT IT SHOULD BE REPEALED WITHOUT DELAY. HE HAS RE-ITERATED IT ONCE AGAIN.

So who is pussy-footing now ?? Why the inordinate delay ?

As a contributor suggested, there is no necessity for any referendum. It is an utter waste of poor peoples money.

A bill presented by a Legislator, the 13th Ammendment, can by an act of Parliament be disgorged in a matter of minutes. Then all this TALKING THE TALK WILL BE IRRELEVANT.

ARE LEGISLATORS, SHIVERING IN THEIR BOOTS FOR SOME REASON ??? ARE THEY WAITING TO SEE WHO IS GOING TO “BELL” THE CAT. Disgusting.

Defence Secretary repeats call for abolition of 13-A

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday reiterated that post-war political strategy of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) left him with no alternative but to strongly recommend the abolition of the 13th Amendment. He urged the government, the Opposition as well as the international community to examine the conduct of the one-time mouthpiece of the LTTE.

It was up to Parliament to decide on the 13th Amendment, the Defence Secretary said, adding that the eradication of the LTTE conventional military capability shouldn’t be a reason for the government to be complacent.

The Defence Secretary was responding to a TNA delegation making representations to the Chinese Embassy in Colombo in a bid to block the on-going Chinese assistance to construct bases for security forces deployed in the Northern Province. The TNA was causing unnecessary friction, he said, adding that nothing could be as foolish as the TNA’s assertion that security forces were constructing bases on in Tamil areas.

The TNA couldn’t be allowed to dictate terms to the State as regards the deployment of security forces during war or peace time, the Defence Secretary said, noting that it was the sole prerogative of the government. He said the 13th Amendment was nothing but a springboard for those seeking to accomplish what the LTTE had failed achieve through terrorism.

The Defence Secretary said that that the government should realise the consequences of the TNA’s efforts to undermine GoSL’s relations with friendly countries. The TNA had never so much as issued a message of condolence when the LTTE killed Chinese nationals twice in separate attacks during the conflict, the Defence Secretary said. The TNA should be held accountable for its role during the 2001-May 2009 period, he, recalling that TNA leader R. Sampanthan’s had declared in the run-up to Dec 2001 parliamentary polls that the LTTE was the sole representative of Tamil speaking people.

Commenting on persistent TNA allegations that outsiders were being settled in Tamil areas since the end of the conflict, the Defence Secretary said that the main Tamil party was making an attempt to trigger ethnic tensions. “First of all let me tell you there is absolutely no necessity for the government to move outsiders to Northern and eastern Provinces. But people must have the right to live in any part of the country. There cannot be different sets of rules for Tamil speaking people and others.” He said people from the North and the East had moved to Colombo and its suburbs during the conflict and were living there peacefully. Likewise, other people, too, should have a right to live in any part of the country without being troubled by political parties or politicians, he added.

So tell me what is BLOODY THE PROBLEM ?

I want to give you a solution if can describe the problem. If you are an Indian agent you cannot honestly discribe the problem.

If I said I want a government like Singapore it is not going to happen.
I can also demand I want a “Tamil Free” SriLnaka , that I cannot get.
You can ask anything but you must be practical.

You cannot discribe your problem. You just want to ask for a seperate state for the asking sake.
