Sri Lanka must FIRST Eliminate Eelaam Ideology for Reconciliation to Succeed

The subjugation mentality as a result of over 500 years of occupationist colonial rule continues to haunt natives of these former colonies. Why, because they continue to or are made to think the white man has all the answers to the worldƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ills. Unfortunately, despite coining all international laws, starting international humanitarian programs, defining whatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s right and whatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s wrong they have also been responsible for encouraging a steady flow of ideologies that have facilitated these western countries to enter the milieu with their notions of what should and should not prevail. All these have taken countries experiencing conflicts nowhere ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Sri Lanka managed to eliminate terrorism, the first nation to do so but what it has not done is to completely break the Eelaam Ideology ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” for unless the separatist mentality is legislatively and legally annihilated the country will not progress towards any form of reconciliation.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s main opposition wisely addressed this need the month following the LTTE military defeat in 2009 requesting the Government to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-defeat Eelaam ideology and to take action on Tamil political parties to remove the Eelaam tag from their namesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  UNP has also realized the need to defeat the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-concept of eelaamƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ an ideology that would likely be launched politically since the LTTE is now no more ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the statement is welcome coming from a party that was ready to legally recognize LTTE territory.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ There are many contradictions : On the one hand the Eelaam is promoted as being only for Sri Lankan Tamils inside Sri Lanka but then there are also calls for a Greater Eelaam gathering thoughts from all the Tamils in the world which leads us to believe that this quest is hiding the reason dƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢etre for their real existence. We know that this is true because calls for a Separate Tamil Land emerged in Tamil Nadu ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” in fact they wanted a Greater Dravidistan incorporating all Tamil speaking states in India ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” which included Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala as well. Realizing that too much greed would get them nowhere they opted to first go for the Tamil Nadu separatism which was crushed successfully by India. We know that Sri Lanka is an experiment ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” to see how a sovereign state can be carved and devolved into a minority state ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” a model that will spread to other parts of the world.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ So before any struggle what was important was to carve out an IDEOLOGY ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” one that would keep hidden from the world that REAL Eelaam was in Tamil Nadu ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the ultimate place that would eventually flag a Separate Homeland for Tamils of the World in India. But that fact needed to be kept hidden from global purview and mostly from within India ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” India would not allow Tamils a TRANSNATION State but this was their hidden objective something ordinary Tamils maybe unaware of. It was because of thisƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  greater plan that all the efforts to offer a compromised solution were scoffed at because the real desire was to ask for more. Sri Lanka cannot give the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-moreƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ it is India.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In order to do that the Ideological Sing Song had to have plenty of frills and trims and it needed to be concentrated only on Sri Lanka (probably IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s assistance would have been selfishly given to keep Eelaam from returning to haunt IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s South). Sri Lanka has had 30 years of nightmares to keep IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s South safe and we are now no longer ready to keep up the charade.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But how can transnationalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s speak on behalf of Sri Lankan Tamils? The Tamils need to realize that given that we are arguing over something called ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Tamil areasƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” in 30 years what did any Tamil do to develop or improve infrastructure or at least provide basic requirements? Did Prabakaran, the LTTE or any of the Tamils comfortably living overseas and telling their poor people to fight care to provide a hospital, school or improve the roads? NO they didnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t and it is the Sri Lanka Government that even fed the LTTE because the LTTE confiscated the food sent to the North. All those whining presently about the lack of this and that may well like to ask exactly the LTTE gave the ordinary Tamil people!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ People listening to the LTTE and Tamil politicians calls for a separate state for Tamils because of Sinhala discrimination may well like to first ask if Sinhalese are discriminating against the Tamils why are more than 1m Tamils living and working with the Sinhalese including the TNA politicians while there are less than 500,000 living in the North?

Have any also thought that the humanitarian organizations are crying foul because when a government declares there are no refugee camps ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” these organizations will have no reason to collect funds from generous hearts overseas?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ All these comparisons appear to end up at the doorstep of the dilemma that prevails between the haves and have nots. It was the haves that rallied behind the LTTE ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” going so far as to raise funds, campaign internationally, influence foreign leaders totally ignoring the fact that LTTE comprised men, women and children brainwashed into praying to a demi-god, being trained to kill and pledged to kill themselves by committing suicide ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” how many Tamils would have lost opportunities by being forced into the jungles for training. Were these not poor and low caste Tamils who made up the fighting force of the LTTE? Were these not the people that fled from the LTTE into the arms of the saviors ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the Sri Lankan military? What was the reaction of the Tamil Diaspora ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” they were quick to cry genocide, mass killing and demand war crimes giving every penny to hide that 294,000 Tamil civilians were saved by Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s military. Were these people given even a glass of water by those that are now demanding swift action and deadlines from the Sri Lankan Government to look after these rescued Tamil civilians ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” were these Tamil people not starving, malnutritioned, and suffering various illnesses and should it not be the LTTE and the Diaspora that should take responsibility! In short if we go by the arguments that Diaspora uses ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” it was the Sinhala army that saved these Tamil civilians, it was the Sinhala army that fed, clothed and treated the wounds of these Tamil civilians ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” where were the Diaspora?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Yet, there are scores of Tamil charities and humanitarian organizations all funneling funds supposedly to look after their people ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” but surprise, surprise when the Sri Lankan military walked into the North for the first time there were not even proper roads though LTTE and their families enjoyed all the fruits of funds sent. Truth is LTTE was no liberation movement. Let us assume it was ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” if the ultimate aim was to create a Tamil Eelaam for Sri Lankan Tamils in Sri Lanka, they would need eminent Tamil politicians, academics, civil society leaders but WHY did the LTTE kill all these Tamil leaders of society and standing? Only a terrorist organization would do what the LTTE did to its own people.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ LTTE is now no more ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” however there is a global call using the excuse of war crimes, genocide and all the fancy words available in the UN dictionary to keep alive a hidden agenda.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Let us not be naƒÆ’†’ƒ”š‚¯ve that the LTTE cannot re-emerge. It was a terrorist organization based on a cult-like movement worshipping ONE man and his objective to become leader of an entire territory. Whether he shared any part of aligning with the greater Eelaam is an answer that died along with Prabakaran. However, Prabakaran would never have allowed any other to be above him therefore we can assume that Prabakaran would have not survived or given a part of a greater Eelaam ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” thus he was being silently used all along.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Again, the real eelaam strategists are still hidden, they are nevertheless trying all sorts of pot shots ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” we have some cyberspace transnational e-government, we have Tamils from different parts of the world slowly lobbying together, there is an amazingly large wealth pot of illegal and legal money, we have Tamil Nadu rising finally into action ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” so the real eelaam agenda continues to remain hidden but its ideology prevails and is gaining ground even in Tamil Nadu calling for India to once again crush this as it did in the 1960s.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lanka cannot solve or stop eelaam ideologies springing up in other nations, frankly it should not be our headache. Our concern should be within our territory and limited to that which challenges our sovereignty and applies to our citizenry.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ No integration can take place when at the back of peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s minds there are those hinting and chirping about separating. This is something that the Sri Lankan Government needs to first address. The international community may well think it is in their right to demand timelines, action plans and whatnot but what needs to be first addressed is the question of whether Sri Lanka has adequately handled the Eelaam Ideology ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” it hasnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t and obviously there are quarters keeping Sri Lanka from addressing this need because they are well aware that Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s SOLUTION will fall on its face when it has neglected to eliminate the Eelaam ideology. Germany is where it is today because the Allies totally annihilated Hitler and all his ideologies ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the same can be said of Japan as wellƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦.therefore, Sri Lanka should not be hoodwinked into going in a direction that is moving it away from dealing with the first obstacle ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” which is to eliminate Eelaam Ideology in Sri Lanka.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ For starters we have written in our constitution clearly that no party or individual can advocate separatism ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” our question is why is the Sri Lankan Government tolerating the TNA and all its associated parties? The TNA is a major obstacle to Peace in Sri Lanka, its manifestos clearly advocates separatism, federalism and it is no other than an agent conspiring against the country, why is the Government not doing anything about a group of politicians who are brainwashing the Tamil people and doing politically what the LTTE did with their gun? We have come to a stage where faulting TNA on political stages and over media is simply not enough and exposes discrepancies in proper policies that should be in place to reconcile the people, integrate the people and allow people of Sri Lanka to live peacefully and with solidarity. Similarly, any other forms of extremism emerging from different quarters needs to also be nipped in the bud whatever funds they may give for the inaction. Allowing this second threat to slowly raise its head is going to lead to another battle that Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s armed forces should not have to sacrifice their lives for delay follies of Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s elected representatives.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ No Sri Lankan ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” political party, organization or individual can advocate any type of separatism in Sri Lanka now or ever and that message must be clear, precise and advocated with legal consequences to all of Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s citizenry punishable under Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s law to all.

Despite the Government being aware of what the TNA really reppresents ( a facade for Tamil dissent) and the role they played towards supporting the LTTE when they were in existence, the Government seems to want to either sweep their contentious presence under the carpet or tolerate them as the International Community or parts thereof appear to have been hoodwinked into believing they are now the sole represntatives of the Tamil Community. This is a fallacy based on how many Tamils want no part of them ~ a fair sized proportion who are happy with their existences and as long as they (The TNA) and the likes of Jayalalitha, Vaiko and Karunanidhi as part of a long list of undesirable lobbyists from Tamil Nadu are tolerated, permitted to carry on their rhetoric and acts of intimidation against the Sinhalese who visit India where some even campaign openly on behalf of Eelam, the issue of reconciliation will be a non issue and efforts towards it a wasted one. Sri lanka officially should play a role towards confronting and creating world opinion about the dangers of Eelam as it is an issue which involves Sri Lanka and not any other part of the world and the panacea needed one which will prevent further incursions into the freedoms of all Sri Lankan citizens.

  2. M.S.MUDALI Says:

Separation is banned in Sri Lanka during the UNP rule but they never respected their own law. Ranil carved out an area to LTTE to do all the criminal activities. Later Dinesh Gunawardena proposed to ban all political parties with separatist ideology, Religion and language. Mahinda &co refused to do it.

Now what the hell Shenali wants from Australia?

  3. Lorenzo Says:

First Eliminate Tamil and Muslim GHETTOS.

  4. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

SHENALI !!! What is reflected in the last para of your write up, is sacrosanctly incorporated in the Sri Lankan Constitution. Why the Legislators are getting Goose Flesh to implement it to the letter, is mind boggling. Other than Gota and Wimal, who are the other Politicians who have spoken one word about it. NONE. A set of Dumb and Dumbers.

  5. Lorenzo Says:

If Wimal Weerawansa spearheads the SCRAP 13 campaign, we are willing to forgive him for his shortcomings including the shoddy treatment he gave to our friend Stanley Perera.

WW is well capable of it. Some of his achievements include.

    1. Convert a 1 seat JVP in 1994 to a 40 seat party in 2004 and got the jokers in sufficient numbers to support the war.
    2. Won a court case to seperate eastern province from the Tamil only GHETTO north.
    3. Tirelessly campaigned and won against Run-NIL in 2005.
    4. Got the PTOMS crap illegalised.
    5. Exposed “Pamankadaya” and destroyed his backbone. Now he is a lapdog of the govt.
    6. Spearheaded the election campaign against Fonseka in 2010.
    7. Beat Run-NIL in Colombo (the rat hole of Colombians).

Only if he puts his head into it genuinely.

It is time to rise up to the challenege WW. Live up to your name.

A healthy contest between WW and PCR (Patali) to SCRAP 13 will be FANTASTIC!

  6. LankaLover Says:

    Few things,

    1. The Tamil Eelam separtist ideology is based on the premise that “Tamils being an ethnic group, should have the powers to self-rule”. Isn’t this total BS? Then, should India also give their over 2000 ethnic groups self-rule too? Shouldn’t that be too colourful…?. Would Afro Americans in USA get self-rule as well? Should Canada give self-rule to Tamils as well? What a load of BS..!

    2. Tamil Grievances – No body knows what they are. All of those separatists including the TNA Eelamists who parrot about Tamil Grievances run for their life or try to blame the one who asked the question when challenged to list their grievances. The bottom-line is they do not have any grievances that are worth the salt and exclusively to Tamils.

    3. “Tamil Question” or “National Question” – These are another two empty phrases that have been parroted over and over again by the LTTE/EELAM lobby, but no-body knows what they are. Some of our empty headed politicians (I am not talking about just Keheliya) also parrot the same words. They are just empty phrases that have been developed to give an illusion of a national significance. When asked to explain those who parrot these words what exactly is the ‘Tamil Question’ or the ‘National Question’ they are talking about either blabber or freeze.

    4. “Tamil Aspirations” – These are another two words that have been parroted by Thamil Selvam who bit the dust many moons ago, and all the Eelam/LTTE lobbyist parroted too. Suddenly, some intelligent folks started asking questions like.. Hey, I have my own aspirations too i.e. be a millionaire or billionaire but they just being aspirations and simply wishes, and no one is accountable to give them to you. Those questions clicked buttons in their primitive tribal minds as to they are not going anywhere with those ‘aspirations line’ and dropped it – and the Barber Chelvam bit dust.

    5. “Legitimate Tamil Grievances” – Well, when they dropped the “Tamil Aspirations”, they again brought in a term. This time it was called “Legitimate Tamil Grievances”. They know that there are no such “grievances” which have any “legitimacy” at all. But, in order to give some pseudo authority to the phrase, they brought in the word “legitimate”. Then some intelligent people started asking questions like whoa, hold on for a second, on which basis you call “legitimacy” in a non-existent or failed to list grievances, and who gave legitimacy when constitutionally and legally Tamils have the equal rights in Sri Lanka? That’s again when started to beating around the bush and blabber, as they all being proved empty rhetoric.

    6. Reconciliation – this is another word that is being parroted over and over again both by the LTTE/Eelam lobby and our nincompoop politicians. These parrots who have empty heads but big mouths are not asking the question: “Reconcile with who?”. Have anyone had any issues with Tamils in general (like the Blacks had with Whites in South Africa). Was there a war with Tamils? “No” is the answer. Then who was the war with? It was with a ruthless separatist terrorist group call LTTE. Not with the Tamils. The Sri Lankan Government and the majority ethnic group Sinhalese always had cordial relationship with the Tamils. Over 600,000 Tamils nearly 65% of the Sri Lankan Tamil population live in the South doing business and engaging in their professions having very cordial relationships with the government and the Sinhalese. Then why this empty word ‘reconciliation’ being used? When LTTE was defeated, whole Sri Lanka got together to collect food and essential items to be sent to the Tamil people whom were liberated from the LTTE. If there was no cordial relationship between the two ethnic groups, how this was possible? Since the war was with the LTTE, and if there was any reconciliation, then it should be with the LTTE itself. But, do we want any reconciliation with the LTTE? Technically, LTTE were done and dusted. Therefore, there is nothing to reconcile about. At least now itself, our empty headed politicians should drop these meaningless use of words just for the sake of using them. We should made it clear that there was no war with Tamils, and it was a war waged by a ruthless terrorist group, and it was defeated opening Sri Lanka for everyone to live and thrive peacefully maintaining existing cordial relationship with each other. BTW, did the ‘Coalition’ ‘reconciled’ with Fascists when they were defeated???

    7. “Tamil Homelands” or “Tamil Area” – These are another two phrases that have been parroted over and over again in front of ignorant international community. The Tamil Homelands are in India and it is Tamilnadu where 65 million Tamils live -no need to prove it. There are no historical or social evidence whatsoever to claim any part of Sri Lanka for exclusivity. Much of the research have pointed out that most of the modern Northern Tamils are descendants of Tamils who were brought in by Dutch to cultivate tobacco in Sri Lanka. When reminded them that there are no “mono-ethnic homelands in Sri Lanka” and Sri Lanka is for all, they start to blabber. Sometimes, they hide their tail in between their legs and run when they were reminded that it is the Tamil Racism and Tamil Fascism that call for mono-ethnic homelands. But, our empty headed politicians are regularly using the term Tamil Areas (I have had Keheliya using these words many times). Whenever I hear that I tell myself “Thuh Nodokin mu…..”

    8. Finally, the grand word “Eelam”: LTTE and the separatists Tamils used the word Eelam to describe a mono-ethnic ancient kingdom of Tamils that they claimed to exist in Sri Lanka some time back that they want to revive. Well, the scholars who researched this word came out with strong evidence that “Eelam” has been the word used for eons to identify “Hela Dveepa” – another name for Sinhalese Land. The independent linguistic researchers (even South Indian origin) are in unison that Eelam is the word that is being used to refer to “Sinhala Country” by South Indians (Tamilnadu, Kerala, etc). Isn’t that a bummer? They have fought all those years to get a “Sinhala Country” for them.. What a laughing stock they are? By the time they realised their error, they have been in deep sh*t being too invested in the word Eelam. Then they tried to change it to a newly invented phrase call ” Thamiz Ezam”. Has anyone noticed? Hah! Hah! Ha! As soon as they realised the word Eelam not taking them anywhere with its technical fault, their Sun Dog Thaleivar ordered them to use the word Thamiz Ezam.. But as you all know, their leader Sun Dog aka Parippuharan bit the dust with an X on the forehead in Nanthikadal and since then that phrase “Tamiz Ezam” also bit the dust. They are now again back to “Tamil Elam” thinking that we have forgotten where it has gone.

So folks, use your words wisely..

The good news is, they have been fighting for 30 years to get us a “Sinhala Country” – an Eelam!!!!

It makes me laugh from both ends!!!

  7. LankaLover Says:

I forgot to mention another phrase “Ethnic Problem” or “Ethnic Issue”. What is it? The answer is this is another phrase invented by the Tamil Separatists out of thin air. However, our politicians also compete with the Tamil Separatists to use it. The biggest laughing stock is, they appointed many panels and commission to find “SOLUTIONS” for these “Ethnic Problem” or “Ethnic Issue”. But, intelligent people asked them to define the “problem first”, and it shut everyone’s mouths. Nobody knows the ‘problem’ to find a ‘solution’, but they run like headless chicken to find ‘solution’ to an “Ethnic Problem” that is undefined, and non-existent. Sri Lanka has no any “Ethnic Issue” or a “Ethnic Problem” only two problems we had was with Terrorism and Separatism. Terrorist was defeated – one problem was solved. Separatism is still carried by TNA, Tamil Nadu bankrupt politicians, and the diaspora LTTE lobby and their INGO clan. Therefore, the Ethnic Problem is none other than ‘Separatism”. Finding solutions to Ethnic Problem means, finding measure to prevent separatism.

The biggest clue we can get is from India. In India, if any state advocate separatism, the Central Government has the powers to dissolve the state government and put those who advocate separatism in jail. No politician in India like to get their rare end big like a manhole, and therefore do not want to go to jail. So, there is the solution to the ethnic problem -put anyone advocate separatism in jail.

  8. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

    LANKALOVER !!!

TAMIL PROBLEM is, they have a costipation problem, unable to defecate on Railway tracts.

TAMIL GRIEVANCES are that most of the men are afflicted with EDF syndrome.

TAMIL QUESTION is, the women are unhappy about the mens grievances.

    These are Terminal illnesses.

Oh My God … the GOSL is still talking about “Power Devolution to the Provinces”??

The GOSL is letting go this wonderful opportunity to RID Sri Lanka of these FOREIGN IMPOSED CHAINS … the 13th Amendment and the Provincial Council System …. ONCE and FOR ALL!

Tens of Thousands of PATRIOTIC Sri Lankans, Civilians and Armed Forces personnel, died to preserve the INTEGRITY and SOVEREIGNTY of Sri Lanka, and the GOSL wants to NEGATE their Sacrifices and RE-EMBED the conditions for CONTINUED WARFARE in Sri Lanka?

    ………………….
Sri Lanka reiterates its plan to implement ’13 plus’ for power devolution

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 25, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government today reiterated that it intends to implement the widely discussed ’13 plus’ arrangement as a means for power devolution to the provinces.

In responding to a question on the uproar over the purported plans to abolish the 13th Amendment, Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the media Thursday that the government has not taken a decision about the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and the President has stressed that the government’s intention is, to implement the 13 plus.

“By the reference of ‘Plus’ it is envisaged to converge all minority groups in the provinces in a Senate,” the Minister said.

The Minister added that President Mahinda Rajapaksa explained this mechanism to the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during his visit to India last month.

Explaining the recent surge in the calls to abolish the 13th Amendment, Minister Rambukwella said the Amendment is part of the Constitution and the Members of Parliament are obliged to protect the Constitution.

“If there are obstacles to impediment public service such obstacles could be removed,” the Minister said.

The Minister further pointed out that Sri Lanka is a democratic country and the people and their representatives have the liberty to express their personal opinions and the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance, being a combination of 21 political parties, has groups with different shades of opinion.

Speaking of a political solution to devolve power, the Minister said the government appointed the Parliamentary Select Committee to expedite the devolution process.

He further noted that the President without using his Executive Powers has pledged to implement the proposals presented by the PSC, and the legislature has been given the authority to discuss, deliberate and find the best solution.

However, the Minister noted that the major Tamil party, the Tamil National Alliance, instead of participating in the parliamentary process where a solution is available, is seeking the assistance from outside forces which “cannot do anything”.
The Minister said the “vacillating stance” of the TNA is the sole reason for the delay in the devolution process.

    Press release

Abolish the 13th Amendment and Communal Parties
and bring in a Senate of Occupational Groups representing Professional,
Business , Cultural, and Trade Union Interest Groups .

Abolition of the 13th amendment, was a demand from the time this was instituted under duress by India,. The SLFP opposed it declaring it a monster and a white elephant. The JVP organized an island wide campaign with black flags. The Sinhala patriotic movements considered it a concession to Tamil communalists aimed at separating the North and the East from the rest of the country.

After 25 years of experimentation, there is no PC in the North of the country. The first PC in the North and East declared UDI and was dissolved since. . The allocation of nearly Rs 130 billion of tax payers money on PCs is wasted on emoluments of PC staff, who are duplicating the work of the Government Agents.

In the meantime, the TNA as the representative of the LTTE has taken over the demand for a separate power base for the Tamils in the North and the East. They have demanded the withdrawal of the security forces from the North, dismantling of military bases, and devolution of Police and Land powers. While over 150,000 Muslims and Sinhalese displaced by Prabharana from the North over the thirty year period remain unsettled, Thesawalame sectarian land laws still persist, the TNA is busy shuttling between India and Sri Lanka in their effort to carve out a Tamil ethnic state over one third of the land area of the country, forgetting that the Tamil population in the North and East is less than 4 % of the total population of the country, and in league with the rump of the LTTE Diaspora and neo colonialist backers of the LTTE, demanding that the leaders of the country be brought to trial for defeating the LTTE .

Lately the Supreme Court by way of clarification of sharing of legislative powers between the PCs and the centre government, has interpreted that the approval of PCs is needed before any Bill pertaining to matters devolved to PCs is taken up in the Legislature . The Parliament is thereby relegated to a secondary position as a legislature. What the LTTE could not win by way of terrorism is now conceded by way of the 13th amendment interpretation. .

Expecting this anomalous situation, the ELMS, in 2009, has called for the amendment of the National Constitution to do away with PCs, and Communal Parties and to provide for an elected House of National Interests represented by non communal Political Parties and a Senate of Occupational Groups representing Professional Interests, Business Interests , Trade Union Interests and Cultural Interests We welcome the call by Defense Secretary for the abolition of the 13th amendment.

    Dr Nath Amarakone
    General Secretary – ELMS.
