The writings on the wall are very clear – The President and his Government are going in the wrong direction. What we cannot understand is who is leading him in that wrong direction? Surely a man who managed to fight off all the foreign pressures during the war whilst brother did the needful in steering the troops cannot be this misled?
We then come to 2 of man’s greatest enemies – Money and Power. Sometimes a mix or a cocktail of both intoxicates the senses. This is probably where the fault lies.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Government needs to get its act together.
Why is the Government giving every piece of prime land, every bit of strategic asset to a vassal nation like India – led by a Catholic under instructions of the West? Surely the Government needs not to be told that Manmohan is a puppet ruler. India is not a good option to be handing critical areas or critical leverages that Sri Lanka needs to keep to use to protect itself.
Why is the Government ignoring the trumps we have at hand – China and Russia are 2 powerful nations in the UN Security Council. These nations are the reasons why the US Ugly Americas are in Asia adapting every ugly trick in the book – now they have got that ugly Ambassador to go filling people’s pockets hoping for people to come to the streets…whilst the Government thinks that the world is ignoring their corrupt ways as seen by the manner the Deyata Kirula head scooted off with 39million – the West is allowing this because it is another way to get the Government to dig its own grave…
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Are these Government politicians and officials really blind – do they not know how countries fall and countries are taken over and how regimes emerge and rebel movements are created….
What needs to be clearly said is that the Government is well on its way to becoming hated amongst the masses for betraying the nation and betraying the Buddhists and that is 74% of the population – so dont forget that. Getting compliments from the Vatican and Mecca does no good in terms of votes and rigging is not an answer either.
To add to the lists of idiotic deicisons being taken is to field Daya Master as a UPFA candidate for the Northern Elections – this is as absurd a decision as anyone can come up with. Do the Tamils ever vote other than for Tamils or the UNP – these are racists we are talking about. Fielding a man who is now thought of as a traitor to the cause whatever crimes LTTE has done is surely going to get UPFA zero votes… just count and see.. it will land up with egg on its face again. TNA will have a cakewalk and Sumitharan is the man to watch out for.
Who is the man cutting all these deals with India and what cost is it going to do for Sri Lanka is what the Government needs to think about because the West may shower money for the Governments survival, make promises about not taking them for war crimes – but Milosovic should be on the mind of President Rajapakse and the Defense Secretary even though the other brother may end up making the deals.
We are all concerned about the state of affairs in the country because we do not want to see a threesome that provided an awesome treat for the ugly west in 2009 to face the fate by their own people. The Buddhists are very angry – becuase the politicians or the Governmetns speaks not a word to defend Buddhism – instead they go after the money because the minorities can shower much more than the Buddhists … these politicians should be embarassed to even go to the constituencies because of the way they behave and they think that going and opening temples or taking part in Buddhist ceremonies will suffice… they are in for some surprises if this is what they are going to do.
To make matters worse becuase of the Governments greed for money and because money can silence a lot of politicians they have allowed a lot of Wahhabis to come and make inroads into Sri Lanka … creating all the dissent possible and getting women to wear black, putting mosques up and even getting the Government to sponsor building of mosques… read the constitution – the Governemtn is supposed to only foster Buddhism… all these wrongs and ill practices are adding up and this is what the West wants… does the Government not know that the CIA and Wahhabis work together and they are chums and it is they who are causing all the conflicts throughout the world and the world ends up blaming the Muslims. but the Muslims are not helping the matter becuase they are so brainwashed not to say anythign against Islam when all they need to say is that they dont want Wahhabis in Sri Lanka.. We expected Tamils to say the same of the LTTE and they didnt and now the Muslims appear to be doing the same… what a situation to happen.

Going the wrong way is making the Government cut its grave and take its own flight to The Hague … India will be left laughing and the other traitors in the Government may think they can fly off … just look what happened to Tariq Aziz… and has any of the money stolen by Mubarak, Saddam or Gaddafi’s been enjoyed.. their assets are all frozen the families now live in fear.. what a situation for our own people.. but they seem blind, deaf and dumb to these warnings…
The only sensible person around appeaers to be the Defense Secretary – he needs to take hold of hte situation and advise the people to undo the damage .. India needs to be thrown out and all deals closed…
China needs to be invited in and Russia given a base too.. this is security that Sri Lanka needs.. if Pakistan has made the changes necessary .. why cant Sri Lanka…

MR is a hero DOMESTICALLY but his international relative (Endia) is a CROOK. Without China, we are gone.
Now USA, Endia and Al Qaeda are CREATING EXCUSES to invade SL. We can’t make this their playground.
We are HELPLESS to face Tamil terrorism and Wahabi terrorism without a superpower. The superpowers are ONLY USA, Russia, China, UK and France. We have to make a decision.

We should do this. We should get compensation from Imperial Britain, Imperial Japan and Imperial Endia for damages suffered by us from their war crimes in SL.

We should do same legally. Imperial Japan bombed Colombo, Trinco, etc. Chased away people in fear. We need Imperial Japan to WRITE OFF their debt to us in compensation.

New allegations claim Syrian chemical weapons use. We’ve heard similar ones before. Obama calls using them a “game changer.” He also said their use crosses a “red line.”
Syrian officials are unequivocal. Weeks earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad spoke for others saying:
“Syria stresses again, for the 10th, the 100th time, that if we had such weapons, they would not be used against our people. We would not commit suicide.”
Alleging Syrian chemical weapons use resembles bogus claims about Saddam’s nonexistent WMDs. It’s similar to false charges against all US enemies.
Big Lies launch wars. They facilitate them. They perpetuate them. Gore Vidal once said:
“Our rulers for more than half a century have made sure that we are never to be told the truth about anything that our government has done to other people, not to mention our own.”
Syria is Washington’s war. It was planned years ago. It’s objective is regime change. America’s been involved from inception. Independent governments aren’t tolerated.

US Ramps up Plans for Military Intervention in Syria

The United States and the major European powers are escalating plans for a direct military intervention in Syria.
The aim of US maneuvers, including a flurry of diplomatic visits this week, is to secure the downfall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a key ally of Iran, while putting in place a government that will operate under the control of Washington.
Last week, top US military officials announced that they would be deploying 200 troops to Syria’s neighbor to the south, Jordan. Officials made clear that this was an initial deployment of forces to set up headquarters near the border with Syria, preparing the way for sending 20,000 or more troops in the coming months.
This act of military aggression has been followed this week by a series of threats and pledges for expanded aid to Syrian opposition forces.
Responding to unsubstantiated allegations by Israel that Syria has used chemical weapons, US Secretary of State John Kerry declared at a NATO council meeting in Brussels on Tuesday that it was necessary to “carefully and collectively consider how NATO is prepared to respond to protect its members from a Syrian threat, including any potential chemical weapons threat.”
The Obama administration has previously declared chemical weapons use to be a “red line” that would spark an aggressive response.

The leader of the al-Nusra Front, a jihadist group fighting in Syria, has pledged allegiance to the leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani said the group’s behaviour in Syria would not change as a result.
Al-Nusra claims to be have carried out many suicide bombings and guerrilla attacks against state targets.
On Tuesday, al-Qaeda in Iraq announced a merger with al-Nusra, but Mr Jawlani said he had not been consulted on this.
Al-Nusra has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the US.
Debates among Western leaders over whether to arm Syria’s rebels have often raised the concern of weapons ending up in the hands of groups such as al-Nusra.
“The sons of al-Nusra Front pledge allegiance to Sheikh Ayman al-Zawahiri,” Mr Jawlani said in a recording released on Wednesday.
But Mr Jawlani said al-Nusra had not been consulted on the merger with al-Qaeda in Iraq and insisted his group would not change its stance in Syria.

The al-Nusra Front clearly finds itself in an awkward position, caught between pragmatic realities on the ground in Syria and its ideological identity and affiliation as an al-Qaeda-related Salafi group ostensibly bent on installing an Islamic state in the region.
The al-Nusra leader’s unequivocal public pledge of allegiance to Osama Bin Laden’s successor Ayman al-Zawahiri came just three days after the latter called on jihadis to do everything possible to bring about an Islamic state in Syria, as a building-block for a wider caliphate.
That is a goal al-Nusra is generally keeping quiet about, as it seeks to win hearts and minds in the “liberated areas” and to keep the cooperation of other fighting groups dedicated to overthrowing the regime in the name of democracy.
Al-Nusra is aware that al-Qaeda is not a name to conjure with in Syria, which is presumably why it distanced itself from Tuesday’s merger announcement from the al-Qaeda leader in Iraq.
The al-Nusra statement assured Syrians that the “good behaviour” they had experienced from the front on the ground would continue unchanged, the BBC’s Jim Muir reports from neighbouring Lebanon.
Mr Jawlani said that the oath of allegiance to Zawahiri “will not change anything in its policies”, our correspondent adds.
Controversial ties
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the head of the Islamic State in Iraq, which is the Iraqi wing of al-Qaeda, had said on Tuesday that his group would be joining with al-Nusra under the name The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.
But Mr Jawlani said he only heard about the announcement from media and had no prior knowledge of it.
Even though Mr Jawlani said in the statement that al-Nusra had received help from the Islamic State in Iraq group, correspondents say al-Nusra clearly does not want to highlight those ties.
Al-Nusra is seen as trying to win the support of the population in rebel-held areas, and also to keep the goodwill of the other opposition groups who do not want to be associated with al-Qaeda.
Spokesmen for the Free Syrian Army, considered the main armed opposition group in Syria, reacted to Wednesday’s statement by distancing themselves from al-Nusra.
“We don’t support the ideology of al-Nusra,” FSA spokesman Louay Meqdad told the AFP news agency.
“There has never been and there will never be a decision at the command level to coordinate with al-Nusra,” Mr Meqdad went on, while admitting that there had been co-operation between FSA brigades and al-Nusra on “certain operations”.
Also on Wednesday, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said the crisis in Syria will be at the “top of the agenda” when G8 foreign ministers meet in London this week.
Activist groups reported that more than 70 people had died in violence in Syria on Wednesday. More than 60,000 people are estimated to have died since the uprising against the government of President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011.

I do not think it is a wise move to give our bases to anybody. There is no need to cry “kotiya enavo” either; all is not lost. We should move away from India and useless Soth Asian Group and try to form aliances with ASEAN countries. Already Malaysia has lot of trade with us and countries like Thailand, Mianmar, Singapore and perhaps Brunei are our friends. We need to engage with them seriouly and if possible join that group. Although they are under some influence of US they are not entirely under US control. They are not anti- China. According to today’s News Asia Brunei has signed a deal with China giving them the responsibility to develop a whole department of their University to be developed by China. I know they have some other development strategies also in economic zones. Sri Lanka also signed a deal to open a Medical faculty in Kotalawala Defence academy. I think this is the way to go, one step at a time towards the better future for the whole of SL.
We need not panic.

South Asian countries are NOT useless (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc.).
I agree Thailand and Indonesia are good but I have my doubts about Malaysia and Singapore. They don’t want SL to develop because then they suffer losses.
Actually there IS reason to PANIC. We must panic BEFORE Endia invade or dictate to us. No point panicking afterwards.

Aloy, this was already tried by the Jayewardene government back in 1979. The Phillipines was in favour of Sri Lanka, most of the so called “Buddhist” countries were neutral. Malaysia and Singapore REFUSED Sri Lanka, arguing that we are “not a Southeast Asian nation but a South Asian (read “Indian” for Malaysians/Singaporeans) nation. These countries: have a large Tamil/Indian minority and from my observation, are preoccupied with racial differences. Thus those 2 nations are a continual thorn in our side preventing our integration with Southeast Asia, where we have many things in common. Note, they welcomed Burma with open arms. Its hypocritical because they too identify India as a threat to their national sovereignty.

We need to strengthen links with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Middle Eastern countries (but not allow them to spread Wahabism) and African countries. But these are just minor powers. We need to ally with a global power or power axis to counter Indian interference, otherwise we are history.

Who let Wahabis come into Sri Lanka ? this is a question we have asked many times and no one knows. This is counter to good governance. This goes to show that the Sinhala people do NOT know what is going on in their own country. The majority Sinhala community have been mesmerised into watching ‘side shows’ of Tamil Separatism & Wars, whilst illegal migrants have come in through unguarded coastlines of Lanka during ltte reign. Therefore the need for the BBS to fill the gaps not filled by governments, past and present.
The latest Census (2012) shows these figures (per Wikipedia) :
“Ethnicity
The Sinhalese, make up 74.9% of the population (according to 2012 census) and are concentrated in the densely populated south-west and central parts of the Island. The Sri Lanka Tamils, live predominantly in the north-east of the island forming the largest minority group at 11.2% (according to the 2012 census) of the population.
The Moors, who descend from Arab traders that settled in Sri Lanka, form the third largest ethnic group at 9.2% of the population. They are mostly concentrated in urban areas in the southern parts of the island with substantial populations in2%the Central and Eastern provinces. During times of Portuguese colonization, Moors were persecuted, and many forced to retreat to the central highlands and the eastern coast.
There are also Indian Tamils who form distinct ethnic group which comprises 4.2% of the population. The British brought them to Sri Lanka in the 19th century as tea and rubber plantation workers, and they remain concentrated in the “tea country” of south-central Sri Lanka. In accordance with a 1964 agreement with India, Sri Lanka granted citizenship to 230,000 “stateless” Indian Tamils in 1988. Under the pact, India granted citizenship to the remainder, some 200,000 of whom now live in India. Another 75,000 Indian Tamils, who themselves or whose parents once applied for Indian citizenship, now wish to remain in Sri Lanka. The government has stated these Tamils will not be forced to return to India, although they are not technically citizens of Sri Lanka.
Smaller minorities include the Malays who descent from South East Asian settlers, and the Burghers, who are descendants of European colonists, principally from Portugal, the Netherlands and the UK”.
Take the Tamil Population figures. It is 11.2% in the N&E plus 4.2% from so called Indian Tamils = 15.4% total Tamil population. This is after about a MILLION Tamils left Sri Lanka after 1983 Riots ! How is that ?
Secure Sri Lanka from WITHIN without so much depending on outside foreign countries to do so for us. The Do Now list :
* Secure & Guard the coastlines of Lanka. Deport all illegal migrants.
* Secure the Water Supply. All Rivers of Lanka start Upcountry. The Mahaweli River is already polluted with Cadmium which is one of the reasons for large numbers of people in the NCP having CKD. See to it that the Rivers of Lanka have clean waters. Monitor methods of fertilisation & use of Pesticides and find innovative natural methods in both. Lanka is an agri based country and both those items need to be monitored and readjusted to keep the River waters and Soil free of poisons.
* Secure Labor Needs of Lanka. Do this WITHIN Lanka without importing Labor or foolishly allowing Tamils of Tamil Nadu to enter Sri Lanka illegally to pad up numbers for Labor. Needs internally must be addressed both re Needs of Laborers as well as SUPPLY of suitable Labor for Enterprises. Modernise & Mechanise Labor, particuarly in the tea sector so that anyone can do this type of work, and reduce dependency on Tamil Labor. No offense meant to Tamil labor here. It is just that TAMIL SEPARATISM & illegal migration have become a SECURITY issue, thanks to misleading of Tamil people by Tamil leaders.

I think it was only Thailand that was in ASEAN at that time as a Buddhist country. Miyanmar joined recently. Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos also joined recently. All these are so called Buddhist countries. Malaysia has lot of investment and are providing latest technologies like G4 even endia does not have at the moment and I beleive their investments are growing. GOSL have been giving preferential treatment to Singaporean businessmen. We should now put this offer on the table. “Will you take us in or not?”. If not GOSL should know what to do.
What ever it is, we have the most talented people in this region. GOSL at least now should make use of them without letting them migrate to other countries at the expence of poor housemaids and the youths toiling in ME and countries like Korea doing menial jobs and ultimately funding the whole system.

Re the Economy : We think Sri Lanka should have friendship with any country that is friendly, irrespective of the Buddhist tag.
Buddhism and all other religions survive only so long as at least some of the tenets of religion are practised. No government anywhere can ensure that. It is up to the citizens of any country to practice what is taught by any religion. NEGATIVE and non-life supportive tenets of any religion should not be allowed to take root in Sri Lanka.
State and religion (any religion) ought to be kept apart.

74.9% Sinhala people of approx. 21 M total population works out to approx. 15.7 M Sinhala people, NOT 20 Million as you say.
There is no loss of Tamil numbers in Lanka.
Thousands of Sinhala soldiers as well as Tamil ltte cadre died in the continued wars over nearly 30 yrs. Civilians too died from both sides.
Moral of the story is not to have future wars re Separatism or any -ism. Guard the coastlines forever – no more illegal migrants in Lanka.

Traitors, terrorists, assassins and backstabbers ought to go and live in India since that is where they are always running to complain. In time, even the west will see through this charade of “human rights infringement” and reject toadies, opportunist, swindlers and two-timers and deport such people where they really belong. Aloy, I agree GOSL should keep trying with ASEAN – but we do have a major image problem in Singapore/Malaysia. They think we are all Indians! Like the fabled blind men and the elephant, they have only felt the “Jaffna part” of our multifaceted “elephant”. This is another reason we should work hard to become open, cosmopolitan nation once again or we will never be accepted into such forums. Only Sinhalese think in terms of “Buddhist” countries. Thailand, Cambodia, Burma etc feel closer to Muslim Malays and Indonesians and Christian Filipinos than to us. They see us through different eyes.

You are 100% correct in that respect. We have an image problem. Because our people are darker in comparison, we are called Kalin in Malay region. May be they think we are all south Indians. When Rosy was in KL she could get anything done so easily. I think that image problem is Chinese made; there are lot of them in that region.

This law enacted by this government has made provisions for the indictment and trial of those persons who arouse racism adopting new forms, including tendencies to establish policies based racial, religious, ethnic, cultural and national superiority and exclusivity.
It must be stated that so called extremist organizations have no right to victimize anyone to protect the teachings of the Buddha. Buddhism as it is used is not an ‘ism,’ meaning a religion. Buddha Dhamma in essence is diametrically opposed to religion. It calls upon its followers to train the mind, to abandon all attachments and aversion, and pursue compassion with indiscriminate detachment. Does anyone need a Balasena(armed force) to achieve those goals.

I agree that the most dangerous and self distructive cocktail is the combination of corruption in high places and high cost of living. People will tolerate high cost of living, only if politicians and their families and friends refrain from corrupt and high handed actions. The Govt must take action against criminals and corrupt individuals, irrespective of their connections, before it is too late. Because of Govt inaction, even lies spread by the enemies are distorting the image of Rajapakses and other leaders.
Also however, much we respect and admire the role played by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, we cant see him controlling the racist mob of Tamil Bishops and priests (mainly South Indian migrants?) in the North and East who have pushed to the background the Tamil Hindu priests to take over the leadership of the Jaffna Tamils with the help of Western nations. This situation is even worse as the Hindu India too is today led by a Catholic Westerner and a puppet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who too does not care for the survival of hinduism. We now know that the Tamil terrorist leaders were mostly Catholics and this is how they got the support of the West led by Norweigian Foreign ministry to create a Tamil Catholic state in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Aloy, I cant disclose too much about me because our family has been receiving all manner of threats from the terrorist diaspora. Needless to say, I am quite familiar with the subject of Malaysia. In Malaysia prejudice is also because alot of the South Asian population (mostly Tamils) went as labourers but unlike the Chinese they remain in unskilled positions on the estates whereas the Chinese by contrast are well educated and control the economy now. If the terrorist diaspora remains preoccupied with Eelam, faction fighting etc, the problem of a South Asian ghetto underclass will be repeated in Australia, Canada etc.

Let me give my point – by – point rebuttal to some funny comments :

It is so amusing that some guys still can’t differentiate friend from foe, and still want to believe that the Chinese love SL so much that they will do anything and everything we ask for ! In this world, everything comes with an attached string . China is expanding its influence in the African continent vigorously – why ?? Out of love for the black people ?? Africa is blessed with vast natural resources like Petroleum, Gas, Copper, Diamonds etc. and our Chinese friends are out to exploit it to the hilt !
The Governor of Nigeria’s central bank, Lamido Sanusi, wrote an op-ed in the Financial Times that argued:
“China takes our primary goods and sells us manufactured ones. This was also the essence of colonialism. The British went to Africa and India to secure raw materials and markets. Africa is now willingly opening itself up to a new form of Chinese imperialism.”
These are words from a learned man who has sensed what is happening !
Beijing is interested in these deals not just because they’re profitable but because they provide the oil, gas, metals and minerals needed to fuel China’s growth engine – and by extension, help China’s leaders maintain their hold on power. In addition, China can send its citizens to work on some of these infrastructure projects and can import surplus food from African countries. As long as China can have all that, everything’s great. But if a country wants to employ its own people instead of Chinese, or wants to send its surplus elsewhere rather than China, or can get a better oil price from another country China might be less pleased and start pulling on some of the strings.

Another of those absurd fantasies !! NO ONE wants to invade Sri Lanka . Exerting influence – may be . But invasion ?? Can we please stop shouting “Tiger Tiger ” just to mislead people ??

Tiger terrorism which plagued the country for 30 years was brought to an end without surrendering to any super power ! There is no Tamil Terrorism now ! The Diaspora can only make noises – that’s all. Wahabi terrorism can be nipped in the bud. We are making a mountain out of a mole hill !!!

Again , an insulting, obscene remark of the garbage kind !! No educated person with a proper family background will make such third grade remarks . The debate has to be clean and upto a certain standard ! What is this ???

Again , a humorous utterence from the gutters ! Lorenzo is also a Tamil – they can send him back – but who will take him ? The Tamils of SL are proud citizens of SL. This is their country . They live and die here . The Africans were brought to the US centuries ago. No one wants them to be sent back to Africa. In fact , a member of that generation occupies the White House now !!!

– Sridaran, I dont see African Americans running around detonating suicide bombs in public places, forming separate political parties, asking for exclusive enclaves, taking directions from Africa against their own country, asking Africa to intervene against their own country, engaging in butchery, pre-dawn raids and ethnic cleansing against other Americans. They try to resolve their issues directly with other Americans only. They are generally very patriotic and are well represented in the armed forces. Where SL Tamils beave patriotically and sensibly, nobody asks them to go anywhere.
You are behaving like a typical privileged Indian – grovelling to the Anglosphere and contemptuous of neighbors. You are also wrong on one other thing – certain racist white Americans (eg white identity movement, KKK etc) ARE asking for African Americans to all be sent back to Africa.
