According to the US, ” Sri Lanka had no right to wipe out terrorism…”

P.A.Samaraweera, Melbourne

The UNHRC meeting is to be held on 3rd March. At this meeting a Resolution is to be introduced against Sri Lanka on war crimes led by the US. Basically, what they are saying is that, ‘Sri Lanka had no right to wipe out terrorism’. So, only countries like the US, UK, Canada and so on has the right to decide which terrorists should be eliminated because according to them some are good terrorists, such as the LTTE. The reason is, LTTE funded politicians of the west.

For 3 decades, the people suffered from threats by the terrorists. The LTTE leader living in a safe under ground bunker, 200 miles away from Colombo, decided who should be killed or which city, town or village should be terrorised. And his threat was that Sri Lanka would be turned into a blood bath if his wishes were not granted. The LTTE had the backing of the TNA, the Tamil diaspora, NGO’s and some western countries. The TNA kept on saying that the LTTE is the sole representative of the Tamils. The Tamil diaspora funded the LTTE. During 2001-2004, western countries had supplied more than $24 million to the NGO’s, most of which had gone to the LTTE to fight the war against the govt.  Now representatives from the TNA, NGO’s, Tamil forums overseas and so on had gathered in Geneva canvassing for the US Resolution against Sri Lanka.

The Resolution on war crimes is pointing the finger at our brave soldiers who salvaged the country from the terrorists. So, the allegations of war crimes are against those who fought a terrorist war for 3 decades. Therefore, the Govt, Oppositon and the people should fight tooth and nail against the Resolution and show that Sri Lanka had been victimised for fighting against terrorists. The people should stand against the Resolution and show support to the govt for bringing in peace to the country and thus save the hard won peace. The attempt by the LTTE rump is to destroy Sri Lanka by hook or by crook.

So according to the self appointed ‘Police man’ of the world, the US, ‘Sri Lanka had no right to wipe out terrorism’. For them, the LTTE were ‘good terrorists’.

  1. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

The US is judging Sri Lanka through her own failed prism. In the wars of Vietnam and Afghanistan the US attorneys in Washington D.C. formulated the 7 rules of engagement and the zero collateral which the much advanced US military were forced to follow. Directly due to these stipulations the US lost both the Vietnam war and the longest US war, the Afghanistan war which lasted for 11 years.

In Vietnam US soldiers were also exposed to a litany of illegal drugs ranging from marijuana, Heroin, Cocaine, to Opium in Saigon. Even the Korean war ended in a stalemate because President Truman refused to back up his back channel threats of using the nuclear bomb, a threat only meant to force the Chinese to the negotiating table and it worked…to a degree. The line of control was drawn and a permanent US military presence was set up in South Korea. Now North Korea is waking up.

The US could not even deal with communist Cuba under Fidel Castro where the “Bay of pigs” where 1400 Cuban trained agents made a full scale invasion was thwarted by the Cuban military. Even the “Cuban missile Crisis” has now come to failure as China and Russia have made blatant inroads with Cuba and with Venezuela plan to develop another canal to rival the Panama canal.

What the US is holding the Sri Lankan military for human rights is based on Washington D.C.s seven rules of engagement which are:
    SEVEN RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:

    • No night or surprise searches.
    • Villagers have to be warned prior to searches.
    • ANA or ANP must accompany U.S. units on searches.
    • U.S. soldiers may not fire at the enemy unless the enemy is preparing to fire first.
    • U.S. forces cannot engage the enemy if civilians are present.
    • Only women can search women.
    • Troops can fire at an insurgent if they catch him placing an IED but not if insurgents are walking away from an area where explosives have been laid.

These rules have been so detrimental to the military that US soldiers committing suicide now outnumber the soldiers who died on the battlefield of Afghanistan. Colombo should never let such a nation humiliate her military in the manner that Washington D. C. has humiliated her own.

    Second comment:
So when was the US successful in vanquishing her enemies? During her own civil war (1851-1856) the Union army and the Confederate army used every invention of that time. During that war the submarine was invented and inducted into both militaries, the use of the Gatling gun mowed thousands in her pathway, trench warfare made its first debut, the repeating rifle. tunnel warfare, underwater mines, land mines, etc. took the lives of 625 thousand soldiers and another 400 thousand soldiers epitomized in the infamous “General Sherman’s march to the Sea” where no Southern city was spared. This was when the city of Atlanta was burned to the ground. It was a scorch and burn policy of 200 miles and 40 miles wide. No human or animal or farm or city was spared by the Union General Sherman. This war was NOT fought to liberate the slaves but to keep the Union whole.

Even before that in the Mexican American war large sections of territory were expropriated by the victorious US military. California, New Mexico and Arizona were seized. Texas was at that time an independent nation. Jumping to the 20th century the might of the US was realized in World war 2. Even though the US was engaged in World war one, what really changed the US military was the rapid rise of Germany’s military and the equally spectacular rise of Imperial Japan’s military. Before the US entered world war 2 her military was no bigger than that of Romania or that of Portugal. But through the use of the mass production brought by Ford’s “assembly line” the US rose to a great power.

The victory of the allies against the axis powers was done with no holds barred attacks. the carpet bombings of Dresden were so severe it evaporated humans, melted the roads and caused firestorms that reduced Dresden and similar European cities to rubble. No quarter was given to any civilian be they in maternity wards, hospitals, nursing homes, schools etc. all were liquidated. When the US finally invented the Atom bomb just a few months before Nazi Germany did and Nazi Germany had also developed a her missile system where the V1 and V2 rockets shelled London and other British cities. Had the Nazis perfected the nuclear bomb before the US history would have been changed in favor of Germany.

The US military did not even have the courtesy of giving an example of the destructive power of the Atom bomb to the Japanese by blowing one of them in the ocean or a nearby island. Instead blew them on Nagasaki and Hiroshima with the same effects of the carpet bombings plus the lingering effects of radiation that continued to take the lives of thousands for decades to come. That is how the US won world war 2 and became a world power.

Now the US is holding the Sri Lankan military for actions that the US military surpassed in raw brutality in order to win. That is the duplicity of these charges against Sri Lanka’s military.

  3. Sri Rohana Says:

Prabakaran was a CIA agent and he who ordered to kill ex: Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Ghandi on Indian soil for American/C.I.A interests. Once Rajiv Ghandi killed C.I.A managed to plant their puppet Manmohan Singh as Indian Leader who opened India to U.S.A business and weapon deals. During Rajiv Ghandi’s era they did business but not opened Indian market to U.S.A as Americans want.
Prabakaran did what C.I.A wanted and got rid of Rajiv, now India became a tamed dog of America.
For Sri Lanka, Prabakaran was a terrorist but for America and C.I.A, Prabakaran was a lap dog. End result was Sri Lanka killed a notorious, megalomaniac terrorist Prabakaran but an American pet.
It is natural that America says Sri Lanka had no right to wipe out their lap dog that helped them to come to South Asia.

Thanks very much Mr. Samarawera – Melbourne-Australia. …..Thanks also to other responese. Just to deviate from the USA involvement in UNHRC, I am not sure if it was mr. Samaraweera who quite rightly suggested that Sri Lanka should make a resolution to IFC or some legal body in Hague.

This is apart from answering the March 2014 resolutiion & can be another way of showing the world of USA’s hipocracy. I am not very sure was it you sir, or some other lawyer from Australia who suggested this move. Even if we fail at least we can see how USA & UK will react to such a move.

If any other person or persons can provide advice on how to go about this, please contact ones you are familiar with through Lankaweb.

I feel we should NOT alllow any country however BIG, to trample the wishes of the people of an Independent Sovereign State, when we are the ONLY country who defeated TERRORISTS & allowed them to be rehabilitated, WITHOUT punishiing them FIRST, as Mr, Stephen RAPP of USA, suggested few weeks ago, after visiting Sri Lanka.

Thank you all……..Kep the ideas coming FINALY we might get it rght…………J
