Enjoining order issued against convening SLFP’s CC
The Colombo District Court on Wednesday (15) issued an enjoining order against convening of the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), without a prior permission from the President.

Following the speech made by President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday against giving nominations to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, SLFP Senior Vice President Janaka Bandara Tennakoon said the central committee should be summoned immediately to take a decision on the President’s speech. –

SLFP to suspend defectors
The membership of SLFP defectors, including Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, M.K.D.S. Gunawardane and Hirunika Premachandra, contesting for general election from the UNP would be suspended today, SLFP Media Coordinator Thilanga Sumathipala said.

President Maithripala Sirisena said he would remain neutral at the general election and won’t back former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He said that he is against Mr. Rajapaksa and that there are many seniors he could appoint as Prime Minister in the event the SLFP wins at the general elections.
He said that irrespective of the party that comes to power, he wants those who could carry his pledges forward to be elected. President Sirisena said that he was totally against the granting of nominations to Mahinda Rajapaksa, and said that Mr. Rajapaksa would lose the upcoming general elections similar to his loss on January 8.
He said that this is not the fault of Mahinda Rajapaksa but due to the system introduced by J.R. Jayawardena. Following a long and stony silence, President
Sirisena finally addressed the nation and said that he is aware of the ‘insults’ hurled at him during the past two weeks. There has not been a President who has been insulted like I have been” he said addressing the media.
He said that this was the vibrancy of the freedom enjoyed by Sri Lankans post January 8 and said that he is aware of what would have befallen those who had made such insults prior to the Presidential election.
He further defended his decision to take over the leadership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) saying that the decision paved the way for constitutional reform which would not have been possible.
If Mahinda Rajapaksa was the leader, these reforms would not have been possible” he said. The speech which commenced a short while ago at the Presidential Secretariat is continuing.

How can the Chairman of the SLFP and UPFA be ‘against’ his own candidates in an election? This is a TOTAL FARCE!
If Maithripala wants to work for Ranil and the UNP in this election, he should join THEIR party, not work against the interest of the SLFP/UPFA.
Also, Maithripala tipping us off that he wants to do the dictatorial thing and not follow the Sri Lanka Constitution that requires him to appoint MR as PM if he has the “confidence of Parliament”(a majority of MPs backing him) is going to put him at odds with the Supreme Court after the election who will simply ORDER him to follow the Constitution and appoint MR as PM. If Maithripala doesn’t want to follow the orders of the Supreme Court or the people’s choice as PM, then he will be ousted by force.
Maithripala can’t go around claiming he is for good governance and democracy and then ignore Supreme Court orders and the will of the Sri Lankan people.

July 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena today stressed that he was against giving nominations for the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections under the United People’s Freedom Party (UPFA), of which he is the leader.
Making a special statement to media, the President said he informed the UPFA leaders including Dinesh Gunawardena and Vasudeva Nanayakkara that he was against granting nominations to the defeated president.
“I continue to stand against Mahinda Rajapaksa,” the President said. “He will be defeated again,” he asserted.
He noted that some have criticized him for taking the leadership of UPFA but all his government achieved was possible because he was the president of UPFA and its main constituent party, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
The President added that if he resigned from the leadership of the party, anyone Mahinda Rajapaksa wanted would have received nominations for the elections.
If the SLFP wins the elections there are other SLFP seniors who could be appointed as the Prime Minister, the President said.
However, the UPFA has already indicated that Mahinda Rajapaksa will be the Prime Minister if they secure the parliament at the August 17th elections.
President Sirisena expressing his commitment to conduct a free and fair election said whoever wins the next election his sincere wish is that they would implement the wishes of those who voted for him on January 8th.
The President, who faced severe criticism for his decision to allow the party to nominate Rajapaksa, said during the past two weeks he was called every possible name and labelled him as a traitor.
President Sirisena said he applauds those who criticize him as criticism is an important aspect of a democracy.
However, he cautioned that although he was happy that he was able to restore the freedom of expression in the country, that freedom should be enjoyed with a sense of responsibility.

According to the constitution, president can not select the PM. But the party that won the majority in the parliament can select the prime Minister. Then president should appoint him. If president appoint Ranil, if he does not have a majority then he will face no confidence vote and opposition will get the Prime Minister post. This time President can not dissolve the parliament for 4 and half years.

The only constant thing about Pres Sirisena is his inconsistency. What he says today will be denied tomorrow. When the general population cannot depend on the strength and consistency of their President, then they ought to remove the Presidency itself. The last Election for the Presidency was a cheated election (per Dilrook Kannangara & Ajith Randeniya)
and that is reason enough for the People of Lanka to remove the Presidency itself.
Also make sure that the next Election is not another CHEATED ELECTION. The same Elections Commissioner is in place. We have never witnessed such perfidy in Lanka politics. Shame on the present President & PM and all those who support them. They are not National minded people.
Where is all this leading to ? A Fed state for Tamils only ?

You are correct. My3 always insisted that he will not allow MR to contest. My3 said MR will not be allowed even nomination from SLFP and UPFA. Ultimately My3 realised that he has absolutely no say in the selection process and even he could not block any nominations. Under the present constitution it all comes under only party secretary’s responsibility

All the Ambalayas like SB Disanayaka, Nimal Siripala + many more crooks will cross over to make it 55% and 45% in favour of YAHAPALANAYA GOVERNMENT. Runil will come again

19 amendment changed 31(2) – “(2) No person who has been twice ELECTED to the office of President by the People, shall be qualified thereafter to be ELECTED to such office by the People.”
So MR cannot be ELECTED to the office of the president. But he can STILL become president without an ELECTION.
31(2) (c) (iii).
“If by reason of the death referred to in sub-paragraph (i) there is a vacancy in the office of President, the Speaker shall act in the office of President”.
So MR should become the SPEAKER, NOT the PM. The speaker is ELECTED by MPs in parliament alone. President CANNOT in anyway influence that decision!!

This is utter NONSENSE! MR is running for PRIME MINISTER, not president, so the two term restriction of the 19A for the office of president does not apply.
Maithripala ‘says’ he wants to follow the Singapore model, and there clearly was no two-term limit on Lee Kuan Yew, who was Prime Minister for THIRTY YEARS! This long stay as Singapore’s leader greatly enhanced the STABILITY of the country, and because of this stability they were able to attract BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars in investments, and are now the RICHEST country in Asia.
This asinine ‘theory’ that more than two terms for a leader will harm the country is completely contradicted by the Singapore Model that Maithripala SAYS he wants to follow in his election manifesto in January.

Looks like you are confused. LKY and 2 terms nonsense are not relevent.
Lets get the FACTS right.
1. MR can be PM as many times as he wants.
2. My3 as president CAN and WILL DISSOLVE parliament if things don’t go his way. (Only limitation is within 1 year he cannot).
e.g. He did this to SAVE Run-nil. He will do again WHEN MR’s next government is unpopular.
3. So eventually MR camp MUST get hold of the presidency. TRUSTING My3 in the long term is DISASTER. He CANNOT be trusted in the LONG TERM. He has a woman’s mind – changes so often. (Until elections are over we should not disturb the woman.)
4. ALL executive powers, commander in chief of armed forces, power to declare war and peace STILL are with the president. NOT PM. These are VITAL for national security.
5. Power to appoint PRESIDENTIAL COMMISSIONS and PUNISH opponents is also with the president. HE WILL (mark my word, he WILL) use these powers against MR, GR, etc. after the election.
6. IF the speaker is from UNP, I’m 1000% sure BATALANDE KILLER will kill My3 (his 541st victim) and make their man the president. IF the speaker is from TNA or SLMC = DISASTER!! So the MR camp MUST take the speaker post as well.
7. My3 as president APPOINTS the PM. He has already threatened there are ENOUGH SENIORS apart from MR to become PM from the UPFA. Mark my word, he will do this. IF MR and someone else from UPFA fights for the PM post, UPFA will SPLIT giving it to UNP. In that event MR must take the speaker post and let the guardian gods do their job.

You forget that under the 19A the President cannot dissolve Parliament early/after 1 year of its sitting.
He can only dissolve it after 4.5 years of its 5 year term is complete -that too based on the “advice” and “support” of the Prime Minister.
I’m surprised you are unaware of this considering you seem to know the other ins and outs of the 19A.
Also your talk of demanding the removing of the 13A at this stage is LUDICROUS.
It is the Provincial councils (controlled by the UPFA/SLFP) that are supporting MR. It is these people who do election work and function as the “national organisers” who interact with the grass roots. It is these people (no matter how much they are detested for their underhand activities and their existence due to the ugly Indian imposed 13A) that have been supporting MR since his defeat in January. It is these bodies that make up the SLFP as a whole and it is because of them the SLFP as a party has been 95% with MR. Talking about getting rid of them will completely undermine MRs position within the SLFP and his electoral prospects.
Then again you Moshe Dyan/Kumar Moses/Lorenzo have been spreading lies against MR since the PE was called in November 2014 and actively boasted you made up 27 Facebook accounts and were one of the “sources” of the bogus Lamborghini/Aston Martin and golden horses propaganda crap where you spread photoshoped images on Facebook which was used by the Puppet’s campaign team to destroy MRs credibility. The national security threat we face NOW is directly correlated to your (and others) involvement in spreading lies against MR and bringing to power this UNP Puppet. Were YOU thinking about national security during the last election when you paved the way for the UNPs puppet to illegally seize control of Sri Lanka and sell the country out (first of course taking it back to 2001?).

President Sirisena now fears Mahinda may be able to muster 2/3 majority in the Parliament. He wants to reduce Mahinda’s Majority. He knows Ranil can never win. He wants a parliament where his presidency is not challenged. Sirisena is a shameless man who will do any thing to hang on. I wont be surprised if Sirisena agrees to partition Sri Lanka to make foreign powers happy.

Last ditch attempt to SAVE the SLFP was stopped by SLFP constitution amendment that made the SL president the SLFP president!
Apart from 3 in the SLFP central committee all others (12 of them) are opposed to Maru Sira. But in 2006 the SLFP party constitution was changed to make the president of SL the president of the party.
Without the chairman of the party (Maru Sira) NO party convention can happen!
That means even with 12-3, the SLFP central committee cannot CHANGE the party constitution or sack Maru Sira!!
As I predicted MANY TIMES despite some people not believing.
Colombo district court prevented them from going ahead with the meeting. Hiru-huka’s friend Chollankaarachchi petitioned the court.
Next time MR too should THINK BEYOND the short term before making changes. These can bite us back.
Now we are stuck with Maru Sira who doesn’t work to WIN the party and does NOT allow others to take over the party too. What a catch 22 situation!!

I would simply go ahead with the 8pm Central Committee meeting if there is a quorum, and oust Maithripala as president of the SLFP for disloyalty and conduct damaging to the party.
It is imperative that we get past this Maithripala DISTRACTION as soon as possible and get back to Ranil and the UNP’s BOND FRAUD which is shifting voters every day away from Ranil and the UNP.

Very true. The SLFP is not split, it is 99% with MR as Puppet himself admitted. This is indeed an unnecessary distraction.
It can however be used to attack Ranil and the UNP to expose the fraud that is the so called “good governance” as well as an example of how the Puppet was conspiring against the people and nation to secretly empower Ranil (back in January) and was thus actively and knowingly conning the people. Spare nothing and use everything to your advantage.

Alternatively, petition the Court of Appeal for immediate extraordinary relief from the lower court injunction because of the time constraints of a pending election that do not allow the lower court to adjudicate the matter in a timely manner based on their current July 29th hearing date, which is only two weeks before the election. Quorum rules for meetings should be sufficient to call meetings based on party rules, and if the president does not want to attend these meetings he is free not to do so. Allowing such an injunction gives the UNP de fact control of the SLFP/UPFA through a president who is obviously furthering the interest of the UNP party by opposing the candidacy of the most popular MP candidate, and no court in Sri Lanka should be allowed to permit one political party to control another party against its will.

Rules are rules. SLFP constitution says the president of the country is the chairman of the SLFP. And NO CC meeting can take place without the chairman’s authority.
SLFP CC members were not fools to GO AGAINST a court order. They cancelled the meeting.
The lesson is THINK before acting.
Now Maru Sira has become a MASSIVE BURDEN to the party and the country. But if SLFP candidates attack him now, VOTERS will get confused helping the UNP. They should DISREGARD this CHEAP JOKES by Maru Sira and continue ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
Hope SANITY will prevail over QUICK RASH DECISIONS that landed us in this mess.

Actually, I am not sure a civil court has ANY authority over the meeting rules of a political party. This could be another legal basis to have the lower court injunction thrown out on an extraordinary relief petition to the Court of Appeal.

We have not forgotten what JVP and UNP did in their times. How many were killed in cold blood and so on. We remember everything and the most important thing was when we won the battle against LTTE under the leadership of our great leader Mahinda Rajapksa. Oh No !! I have not been to Jaffna after the War ended, as I am not in Sri Lanka. I am now a retired citizen of USA.
Nevertheless, I will tell you about the Rosary Guest House. This was in the early 80s. I was seated in the Veranda of the guest house one evening, reading the papers. I saw two men in sarong walking towards the guest house entrance. They rang the bell, and the Keeper came. The two men said in Sinhalese, ** Api Kath Velendo, Ape badu vikunala, api raata inna thanuk soyaganay avey. Apita Kamarayak denna puluwanda ?** The Keeper said, Mehe Kamara Nehe, very sternly. The Two men were walking out, when I clapped and called them back. I told the Keeper, I don’t mind sharing my room with them. The two men asked me whether I was Sinhalese, and I said yes. One man said, Anney apata bohoma santhosai. The Keeper gave them a room. After their bath, they invited me to have a Beer with them. So I did. We had Dinner together, and after a long chat went to bed. What Iam trying to impress upon you is that, even at that time, when Jaffna was so peaceful, they were refused a room to rest for the night. I had to speak on their behalf, and the Keeper respected me as a regular visitor. End of the STORY.

I left (1983 -my clever mother sold her tali(god)godi to get a air tick kick me out from mother lanka she knew I would have been a VP’s Mavira now at Nanthi kaddal) in my teenage not had any opportunity to live with Sinhalese in our all school holiday we go to colombo .
I learn my dika dikka sinhala from My father had shop (Corner shop) in colombo (until 1983).
eg : ban bahaya parrupu eka ( bread & parruppu).
