   MS is being selfish; he only talks about himself, the party and MR. The patriotic Sinhala politicians should know that if executive presidential system is abolished there is a chance that the minorities will get the help of Colombians to form the majority and take control of the country. To my mind this is what UNP is trying to do.

   Executive presidency must be abolished as promised.

   All (SLFP) presidents since 1994 – 2020 promised to abolish it before getting power. However, after gaining power they all disregarded their promise. It is a disgrace for 26 years of continuous SLFP rule without abolishing executive presidency.

   During the war, presidential election favoured natives. However, after the war, it is manipulated by South Indians. Now executive presidency and presidential election favour South Indians. Block vote by South Indians can easily tip the scales in favour of the weaker candidate that gives into their demands. Election fraud including absentee voting, double voting and ghost voting is strife in the north, Batticaloa and Nuwara Eliya districts. Due to devolution of powers and the mono-ethnic nature of some of these areas, it is impossible to monitor. In a general election this doesn’t matter much as district seats are limited. It doesn’t affect others. But in a presidential election it matters.

   Sirisena must get over his naïve and daft thinking of blaming everything on Mahinda.

   As things are, the next president will be Ranil. Executive presidency must be abolished before that as promised.

   Dilrook,
   We must not depend on parliamentarians. MR got them to vote for his indefinite terms when he clearly did not have the 2/3rd majority at the beginning. This was recently. I remember my father used to go to Hugh Fernando (one time SLFP speaker) every two weeks or so to give mutti kasi, but he changed sides and voted for UNP (perhaps after getting bribed by RW’s father) and that changed the government. If the executive president is elected with the majority of Sri Lankans I believe it will be a somewhat trustworthy Sinhalese who will be at the helm. People will never vote a person like RW to be the president, knowing very well the things he is doing currently.
