God calls IGP?

Editorial The Island

There has been a real hullabaloo over a video footage of IGP Pujith Jayasundara telling someone over his mobile phone recently in Ratnapura that he had ordered the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) not to arrest a certain Nilame or the lay custodian of a holy shrine. President Maithripala Sirisena, in answer to a curve ball from an Opposition MP in Parliament the other day on the issue, promised to look into the matter.
The police chief can rest assured that no action will be taken against him. For, he has obviously followed an order from a government leader.

President Sirisena drew a great deal of flak from the UNP and the so-called civil society outfits loyal thereto for making a public statement a few months ago that the FCID worked according to a political agenda. His statement warmed the cockles of many a heart in the Opposition circles. He, however, made no revelation; the entire country is aware that the FCID is the yahapalana version of Gestapo.

President Sirisena stands vindicated. No less a person than the IGP has been caught on camera giving an assurance to a superior that he had ordered that the FCID steer clear of someone. What will those who tore into the President for criticising the FCID say now?

The National Police Commission (NPC) is in a slumber. It wakes up from time to time to make statements. It will be interesting to see what the NPC has got to say about the IGP’s telephone conversation which is irrefutable evidence that he has interfered in a police investigation at the behest of a politician.

The country was in a state of euphoria when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was adopted following last year’s regime change. Many thought the appointment of the so-called independent commissions would put an end to political interference, which is the bane of all state institutions. We pointed out in this space that ‘proof of the pudding is in the eating’ and it was too early for celebrations.

The local government elections have been postponed indefinitely for political reasons and the National Election Commission is helpless. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption pursues Opposition activists, but takes no action against ministers who contemptuously refuse to answer its summons. Some courts remain open till midnight and on Poya Days to remand Opposition politicians and bail out government members and their backers.

The police hush up investigations and keep making arrests to please their political masters. The FCID has not investigated the biggest ever financial fraud in the country—the Central Bank bond scam. Thanks to the IGP’s telephone conversation now we know the FCID has also become putty in the hands of the powers that be.

Politicians still call the shots and the ‘independent commissions’ have become mere appendages of the government. The Constitutional Council has failed to live up to public expectations. It is controlled by a group of politicians bound by a common political agenda. A fish rots from the head down.

One may argue that the President does not have to call for explanation or conduct a probe to find out who spoke to the IGP over the phone about the ‘Nilame’ in the soup. For, the government knows how to obtain call details. It is even au fait with what judges discuss in telephone conversations and via email thanks to the police who specialise in wiretapping and accessing others’ email accounts on the sly.

But, one need not be surprised if all call details as regards the IGP’s telephone conversation at issue have got mysteriously deleted and the Cabinet Spokesmen claim that since it was a matter concerning a Nilame of a devale the IGP received a call from the god concerned!

    Shameless POO-JITHA, SORRY-SENA, RUN-NIL and SAKALA.

They have turned SL into a POLICE STATE.

National Police Commission head is a direct appointment by the Indian Empire.

Just a few articles down, Senaka Weeraratna writes about the anti-Buddhist crusade of Sri Lanka’s media & this is a clear example; Why did it headline as ‘God’ as it the entity Sinhala Majority believes. We’ve no qualms Obama or any US president refers to God whenever deemed necessary but this is another not so subtle means to demean Buddhism.
I know several comments in the opinion column supporting Buddhism against some previous articles adverse to Buddhism in the opinion column in Island were not published by the Christian Editor there. This is also seen very clearly in sports articles both in Daily News & Island. Reggie Candappa , the DN Sports Editor who always refer to God & Christian schools & same with Rex Clementine in Island in their sports articles. These cannot go unnoticed anymore.

I fee l for the police since its the politicos that created this mess.
Just after MR was defeated, one DIG came to visit me in colombo and ask for certain help to identify GR’s intelligence apparatus. I was surprised and told him that the whole idea of the intelegence network is to protect the country and he should not be scared of the network since it does not play politics.

He accepted my decision and thats end of that. We all want countries police behave independently and so far we have not achieved that.

    Oi Katussa (Lorenzo),

BUT, BUt, But, but …… these people you now call SORRY-SENA & RUN-NIL are the very same people YOU helped to hoist to power in the Presidential and General elections, arguing with me and other patriots just as VOCIFEROUSLY as you do NOW?

Why are you now WAILING: Ayooooo Sirisena FOOLED ME!

Is it possible that YOU, a HIGH IQ EELAMIST, was GRIEVOUSLY WRONG?

BUT, how can that be …. the GREAT Katussa (Lorenzo) WRONG?

MISTAKEN, WRONG, FOOLED, TAKEN FOR A RIDE?

SURELY IMPOSSIBLE, because if that were true he would be hiding his head in SHAME somewhere but not AGAIN shamelessly MAKING PONTIFICAL PRONOUNCEMENTS on Sri Lankan POLITICS at LankaWeb?

    The EXPLANATION is SIMPLE:

    1. He has NO CONCEPT OF SHAME or TAKING RESPONSIBILITY, he has a job to do serving his paymasters.

    2. He is an EELAMIST who believes he can AGAIN FOOL the Sinhala Modayas, cause Maximum Confusion and LEAD THEM AGAIN over that SAME CLIFF down onto the ROCKS BELOW!

ONCE a EELAMIST Katussa, ALWAYS an EELAMIST Katussa!

    USA,

As you KNOW I unearthed the BIGGEST allegations against SF in 2009 leading to the 2010 presidential election. NO ONE knew about HICORP, TIDAL TRADING, etc. companies before I brought them out. That helped MR WIN the election easily. I sent this information to all your friends, media, etc.

I picked OUT SF the day he went to USA as an agent to be trained against SL. YOU disagreed. I ran an aggressive campaign against SF even MR’s people begged me to tone down!

(At least be honest and ADMIT it).

After HELPING MR win the election in 2010, I LOST faith in MR in 2014. OK MR took 4 years but My3 took only a few weeks.

Does that mean I was WRONG in helping MR win in 2010?

  7. Lorenzo Says:

In 2020 I will use ALL MY POWER to bring a PATRIOT to power IF he promises to SCRAP 13 amendment.

That will be the father of all campaigns.

  8. Ananda-USA Says:

    Oi Katussa (Lorenzo),

I will let you and Fonseka settle your marital problems, leave me out of it, Pretty please?

Your DIVORCE problems are multiplying; first MR, then Sira, next Ranil, and now Fonseka!

How is your arrangement with Wigneswaran and the RATE coming along? All smooth and friction free so far?

    Phew!

  9. Ananda-USA Says:

    Oops!

I meant to say TGTE instead of RATE!

Damn this iPhone and it’s automatic spelling correction program!
