Colombo, July 12 (Daily Mirror) – Sri Lanka has been ranked the most traffic-congested country in Asia, according to the Numbeo Traffic Index by Country 2026 Mid-Year.
The latest index gave Sri Lanka a traffic score of 254.5, placing it ahead of Bangladesh (246.2), Iran (215.3), India (205.1) and Indonesia (191.1), which ranked fifth in Asia.
Indonesia, the largest and most populous country in Southeast Asia, was highlighted in the report as the fifth most traffic-congested nation in the region, underscoring the growing challenge of road congestion across Asia.
The remainder of the regional top 10 comprised Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, the Philippines, and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam recorded comparatively lower traffic congestion levels.
Globally, Sri Lanka ranked as the third most traffic-congested country, behind Nigeria, which topped the list with a traffic index of 320.3, and Costa Rica. Bangladesh and Kenya completed the global top five.
The Numbeo Traffic Index measures overall traffic congestion based on factors such as travel time, time lost due to congestion, fuel inefficiency and estimated CO₂ emissions associated with commuting.
