Former External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris yesterday alleged the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe government had caused irreparable damage to Sri Lanka’s relations with China and Russia.

Prof. Peiris, who is also the Chairman of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) said that now Russia had been accused of helping MP Namal Rajapaksa run a special propaganda operation targeting the government. Prof. Peiris said so at a media briefing at the Nelum Mawatha Office of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Battaramulla.

Prof. Peiris said that allegations had been directed at Russia close on the heels of controversy over accusations made in respect of China funding President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s re-election bid in January 2015.

Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera, who previously held the foreign ministry portfolio recently alleged that the government was aware of clandestine Russian operation involving Namal Rajapaksa.

Responding to a query, Prof. Peiris asserted that the government seemed bent on destabilizing relations with UN Security Council members Russia and China, who had always stood by Sri Lanka especially at the world body, when others were trying to target the country with various resolutions. Denying China and Russia interfered in domestic politics, Prof. Peiris said that the government was responsible for the current turmoil.

The former law Professor said that the recent presidential intervention to reduce fuel prices soon after the Finance Ministry announced an increase reflected the crisis in the government. He said that the government owed an explanation as to whether the Finance Ministry briefed the Cabinet regarding the sudden price revision.

  1. Ratanapala Says:

People not only in Sri Lanka but world over should be asking the question – what good US led Christian Countries have done to the rest of the world other than always finding ways and means to rudely exploit them. They find ways to exploit them for their resources, political usefulness, strategic importance and other. It is difficult to remember a time when they directly assisted us – not even after the 2004 Tsunami. Only they have done is making us their economic slaves through the IMF and the World Bank.

The list of countries they have destroyed, economically, culturally and morally is getting longer by the year!

Countries like Sri Lanka should be aware that the slogans they bring such as Democracy, Human RIghts, Reconciliation and R2P are only tools they use to castigate and belittle us. These are things that they little practice in their own countries. We must not get fooled by such notions. Democracy and Human Rights we practice and found in our own culture, religion are far superior to what they preach.

Since of late in addition to Ranil and Mangala Samaraweera two arch traitors of Sri Lanka, now even their erstwhile juniors have taken to belittle our all weather friends – Russia and China. In the lead so far are Wijedasa Rajapakse and Ajith P Perera. In addition Wijedasa Rajapakse has taken a new role as ‘protector’ of the Sinhala Buddhists. This is the very same man who said that Sri Lanka is not a Buddhist Country a few years ago. It is quite apparent he is now trying to mould himself to be a possible ‘ Common Candidate’, same as what Pa Cha Ranawaka is trying to. Pa Cha Ranawaka is now busy trying to distance himself from Christian Ranil also hoping against hope of becoming a possible ‘Common Candidate’.

It is not difficult to see their role reversal depending on which way the wind blows. The other is Ajith P Perera. These myopic politicians who are only interested in promoting their personal political agendas are doing irreparable damages to the nation by trying to alienate our true friends who have always sided with us in international fora as well as assisted us in kind when necessary.
