All documents necessary for the extradition of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran had been despatched, Chief Opposition Whip UPFA MP Mahinda Amaraweera said.

Replying to JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa in Parliament yesterday, Amaraweera said all necessary information had been diplomatically communicated in writing to the relevant authorities in Singapore.

Amaraweera also told the House that President Maithripala Sirisena would brief the Singaporean authorities and the people of Sri Lanka shortly on the steps he had taken to bring Mahendran back.

The issue was taken up in Parliament after Singapore strongly rejecting President Sirisena’s allegation that it was sheltering Mahendran. Singapore alleged Sri Lanka was yet to furnish required documents to support its request for extradition of the former Central Bank Governor.

“The President has done everything in his capacity. The President also made a private request when he met the Singaporean Prime Minister,” Amaraweera added.

At this point JVP MP Dr Jayatissa remarked that he requested a clarification from the government, but instead it was Opposition MP Amaraweera who replied. UNP MP Mujibar Rahuman observed that it proved that the President had sided with the Opposition.

UPFA MP Udaya Gammanpila said that Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala must explain to the House why she had not provided necessary documents to the Singapore government for the extradition of Mahendran.

“The President after his meeting the Singaporean Prime Minister instructed the authorities in Sri Lanka to take steps for Mahendran’s extradition. Matters pertaining to extradition come under the Justice Ministry. There was an Interpol red notice on Mahendran. The Singapore’s response shows that the Singaporean authorities were not even aware of that. Who blocked this message? There must have been some pressure on her to do so. Mahendran is the most wanted man in this country. She must tell the House as to who prevented her from acting against Mahendran.”

Mahendran should be tried in absentia.

Sirisena is playing games. Indian puppet.

  2. Dilrook Says:

Exactly Christie. Mahendran can be tried in absentia. Capturing can wait. This is what we did to the LTTE leader and many other abscodning criminals.

How about others involved in it like Ranil and Ravi? At least some action can be taken against them.

Sirisena cannot be trusted. He just makes excuses to cover up his incompetency on most matters.

  3. Hiranthe Says:

We are all mistaken. In fact the whole nation has been mislead.

    Why shoot the messenger?

This was all done by Run-nil and the money raised benefitted Run-nil and the clan. The idea was to pass the benefit to the party members through Perpetual Treasuries. That is what happened actually. The cheques given must have been part of the original plan. It didn’t happen accidently.

This is what called “Oorage maalu uge Angema thiyala Kapanawa”. The Election expenditure of Yahap team has been finally paid by the poor Tax payer himself…

Arjun Mahendran was not the mastermind of this scam. It may have been done by Paskaralingam or Raj Rajaratnum from his jail cell for the benefit of Yahap team who came to power with their blessing. Then they brought Arjun Mahendran to do the dirty work as per Run-nil’s instruction.

Mahendran was brought here, given the job with the promise of safety. Singapore is part of the Yahap promotion team. They will never betray one of their players. FTA with Singapore was part of the original plan. Singapore will not honour My3 or anyone for that matter. Instead, they will protect Mahendran.

Why no one is pointing finger at Runil. He is the one who humiliated other MP’s in the Parliament saying you know only James Bond. This dirty rogue is the one who is totally responsible.

Everyone is pointing the finger at the moon and when poor citizen Silva looked at the moon, they pick pocket him.

    This is pathetic!!

  4. Christie Says:

    Thanks Dilrook and Hiranthe.

We Sinhalese are divided over this as well as we are divided over other issues that affects we Sinhalese.

This is simple issue with a simple solution.

Arjun was employed by the Central Bank.

In a Democratic Capitalist system trust is the most important concept in all spheres of the human society.

So Arjun had to do a job and he was paid for it.

He was not allowed to obtain any other benefits other than what he was promised.

He was not allowed to obtain any other benefits for himself or for his associates that include businesses.

Such behavior is criminal as it undermines the Capitalist Democracy and violates the trust which it is built on.

Arjun used his position to obtain massive benefits for himself and his associates including relatives and businesses.

He should be tried for violating the trust placed on him.

What others did is not relevant but if they have done wrong they should also be tried.

What happened to Sirisena’s SMEC Paga deal ?

Mahendran has not been charged yet. Sirisena knows that. Without being charged Singapore will not send him to us, specially when he plays the Tamil Card even if he is convicted.

perpetual+ kabraal+ Ranil + MR + Sirisena all good friends.

    Don’t joint this useless arguments.

Look at the joke of 3.85 billion US $ company address in a Mudukkuwa of Singapore Serangood Road where world’s biggest best Thosai companies are situated !
