Pulasthini Rajendran alias Sarah, the wife of the suicide bomber at St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya, was allegedly abducted and forced to convert to Islam, Pulasthini’s mother claimed, speaking to Indian media.
According to Pulasthini’s mother, her daughter, who had been a devout Hindu, is now being held by Abdul Razik, the Secretary of Ceylon Thowheed Jamath (CTJ).
She alleges that Razik had abducted and forcefully married her daughter off to Atchchi Muhammadu Muhammadu Hasthun in Maligawatte area, despite the objection from the mother.
Muhammadu Hasthun was later identified as the suspect who has carried out the suicide bombing in Katuwapitiya.
Responding to these allegations, Abdul Razik stated that Pulasthini had converted to Islam willingly, however, she had ceased being an Islamic devotee in 2015 after formally informing the CTJ this in writing.
Pulasthini had not maintained further relations with the CTJ since then, Abdul Razik claims.
Meanwhile, the National Movement against Terrorism filed a case at the Criminal Investigation Department against CTJ Secretary Abdul Razik for the alleged kidnapping and marrying off Pulasthini Rajendran by force.
Investigating officers suspect that Pulasthini Rajendran, who was named as one of the six wanted suspects, may have died during the explosion in Chavalakadi in Kalmune but DNA examinations are to be carried out to ascertain her identity.
