SRI LANKA: CRICKET AT ITS WORST

Everything in Sri Lanka is at its worst. Sri Lankan cricket is just following that trend. They are of the same mold and model as the others. I agree with Shyamon Jayasinghe writing in the Colombo Telegraph, that after this world cup debacle the selection committee must resign. That demand is true for the Minister as well. They must all GO. This is the honourable thing to do. But honour is nowhere in the country’s vocabulary. The country is bathed in dishonour. What honour in a shit hole?

As far as Srilankan cricket is concerned, many in this team should never have made the trip. The old cronies should have firmly been told to retire. Who are they? Mathews (body all aching all the time), Malinga (the highest run yielder in every recent format of the game), Thirimanne (block, block, block, no score), Siriwardene (good for nothing). Lakmal (gone are the days), Jeevan Mendis (just stand and wait), Thisara Perera (a total flop, only bulk), Jeffrey Vandersay (a mere nothing), Pradeep (cannot hold a bat to save his soul).

These can no more resuscitate the hope placed in them. They were going, going going…now they must be told ‘BE-GONE’. Beaten to a pulp and dead and gone, this team will not rise on the third day.

Considering the sterile presence of these TEN on the field, any younger prospect in their place would not have done worse. They would at least have given hope for the future. The Chairman of the selection committee wrote a scathing letter to the WC Organizers about the poor treatment meted to the SL cricket team. Let him be reminded that ‘UNU BATH’ is not for beggars.

    Dear Mario,
Delighted to see a note from you after many years of absence in Lankaweb, regardless of cricket.

I fully agree with you and few big names must not every be selected again, Those are

    1. Angelo Mathews
Now I am convince he is sabotaging the team. Hathru was correct by sacking him after he ran out 3 other players in a single ODI. Too fat and did not agree with that and tried to show his fitness by doing 2 x 10 push ups. I too can do it at 60 plus age but he was down after that 20 push up to show his strength.

    2. Tisara Perera
Another Saboteur desiring captaincy – kick him out. Surely this guy too his a master of sabotage. Ask him to run for presidency, he is suitable because of this evil nature. Or, he may find good employment with Sirisena.

Malinga shouldn’t have been there at all but he has been successful keeping others not getting any experience. This guy too has the same “love for the country” as the two above.

  2. Dilrook Says:

Agree with every loser named except Malinga, Thisara and Milinda. Include Kusal Mendis in the list.

Malinga is still the best bowler we have. If not for him we would have conceded over 400 runs to good teams.

Thisara has potential though he doesn’t seem to perform at all.

Milinda was not goven enough chances (Jeevan, Angelo, Mendis, etc. get too many). We have to expose him more.

All others named must be kicked out for good including Kusal Mendis from the ODI team. Bring in youngsters as I named before the WC.

  3. Randeniyage Says:

    @Dilrook

FYI bowling performance comparison of Malinga at the moment (this world cup)

    1. Number of wickets ( Nuwan Pradeep has played less matches than Malinga but has same number of wickets (4) at a better average)
    2. Bowling Averages ( there are 3 Sri Lankan bowlers better than Malinga- best is DM De Silva = 23.5@ 5.22 runs/over , Malinga = 36.5 @ 6.7 runs per over)

He is not the best bowler we have- this is a myth, proven.

  4. Hiranthe Says:

I too agree on every loser but as Dilrook says, Malinga is still the best at death overs. This will be his last tournament anyway. He inspired young bowlers and made them bawl Yorkers.

Kusal Mendis is the worst curse with his big head and show off. He is an empty vessel.

I don’t like Chandimal. But if he was there, we would have had some steadiness in the middle.

It was surprising to see the lethargic appearance in the SL dressing room.

“This will be his last tournament anyway. He inspired young bowlers and made them bawl Yorkers. ”

OMG ! This is the problem of Sinhalaya. Why should be consider his past service ? Don’t we like to win this world cup ?

yes, this the mental issue of Sinhalaya. Too much personal emotions , not regard to country !

    My dear Randeniyage,
I thank you for your affectionate word in my regard. I also thank ‘my old friend’ Dilrook for acknowledging my presence on Lankaweb.
These words of thanks to you both were delayed dued to my having lost my previous registration details. I wrote several letters to the editor of Lankaweb seeking his assistance to renew my registration. But sadly there was no reply. With my continued persistence i was able to reconnect once again .
I have not been literarily idle and have written several books during these elapsed years. My wife and I are also expecting our green cards for permanent residence in the USA. We want to live close to our daughter who is over there with her family. But wherever I am we will remained linked through Lankaweb, if Lankaweb deigns to publish my contributions.
    With renewed thanks
    Your old friend
