Several important documents at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) have been reportedly destroyed, the Society of Government Pharmacists alleged.

Its President Thushara Ranadeva told the Daily Mirror that NMRA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vijith Gunasekera has intervened in the destruction of these documents.

The CEO has been disposing of certain files that belong to the NMRA.

Last night (01), the CEO visited the NMRA premises and eliminated some files using a paper cutter. These files have been placed into bags,” Thushara Ranadeva claimed.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror learns that the NMRA CEO has been asked to step down; however, he had refused to do so.

The NMRA headed by its former Chairman and current CEO Dr. Vijith Gunasekera has faced a spate of allegations with regard to the influx of inferior-quality medicines in the recent past. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
