Six Indian fishermen arrested for poaching in Sri Lankan waters

Six Indian nationals, together with two fishing trawlers, have been taken into custody by the Sri Lanka Navy for poaching in local water north of Delft Islands, Jaffna.

The apprehension took place during a special operation conducted on Monday night (22 Jan.), in a bid to chase away foreign fishing vessels poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

Accordingly, the arrested Indian nationals, and their trawlers, were brought to the Kankasanthurai Harbour, and are due to be handed over to Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for onward legal action, the Navy reported.
