The Opposition will question the government in Parliament next week over its decision to liquidate 33 state institutions, including the defunct airline Mihin Lanka.
This was announced by Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara, who questioned the government’s reasons for the decision.
Jayasekara also claimed that a previous government’s attempts to restructure these institutions had been thwarted by opposition from the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), which he said resulted in significant losses for the country.
He argued that if the institutions had been restructured earlier, they would not be facing such heavy losses today.
Jayasekara also pointed out that other state bodies, such as the Mahaweli Authority, Cashew Corporation, National Film Corporation, Police Training Institute, Sri Lanka Fisheries Harbour Corporation, and Kotelawala Defence Hospital, are also set to be liquidated.
He demanded that the government present a full report on the matter to Parliament.
