This video explores the dark legacy of European colonialism in Sri Lanka, beginning with the arrival of the Portuguese in 1505. Under the pretense of religious conversion and a so-called “divine command” from the Pope, they launched a brutal conquest—imposing Christianity, dismantling local cultures, and exploiting the island’s rich resources.

Central to this history is the tragic figure of Don Juan Dharmapala, remembered as the first Christian king in Asia. His story reflects betrayal and manipulation, as he abandoned his people and Buddhist heritage under Portuguese influence.

The narrative continues through Dutch and British colonial rule, revealing a consistent pattern of oppression, plunder, and cultural erasure. Yet, despite centuries of foreign dominance, the resilience and spirit of Sri Lanka especially the Sinhala Buddhists, the true builders  of the nation for over two millennia, remained unbroken.
