RE: ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ DONƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢T USE SRI LANKA FOR OWN POLITICAL GAINS

We the members of Friends of Sri Lanka (Canada) condemn the statement made by New Democratic Party of Canada (NDP) on Sri Lanka, on August 3rd 2011. We are saddened by the fact that NDP is trying to make use of Sri Lanka, for own political gains rather than helping Sri Lanka to recover from 30 years of terrorism.

We also urge NDP not to trap into Tamil Tiger slogans and not to jeopardise not only Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s reconciliation process, but also community harmony in Canada by making false statements. Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation and there are well established laws and judicial system in the country to punish any crime.

We also urged NDP not to distort the facts that UN has suggested a war crime tribunal in Sri Lanka. There is no such decision taken by any division of UN.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

We stress NDP to look into the fact that it is Pro Tamil Tiger Diaspora in Canada who funded the proxy war in Sri Lanka; and therefore to set up a war crimes tribunal within Canada to punish those who funded Tamil Tigers to kill thousands of innocent civilians in Sri Lanka, throughout last 30 years.

We also like to raise the question where was the NDP when Tamil Tigers were blasting bombs in every corner of Sri Lanka killing innocent civilians, Politicians, clergy etc.

We urged Canadian government to push for laws at UN to protect soldiers who risk their own lives to protect civilians while fighting ruthless terrorist outfits throughout the world.

With respect to the Sri Lankan situation, Sri Lankan soldiers while risking their own lives have secured over 300,000 civilians from the human shield of ruthless Tamil Tigers at the end of the conflict and the world should credit them for that; rather than criticising them.

I toured the Northern region of SriLanka recently. I was both happy and saddened from what I saw. Happy when I saw school children chatting, laughing and walking freely on the road, to and from school just like anywhere else in the world. This was not even a dream when the Tigers were active and kidnapped children for their war machine, whilst the UN Agencies, HRW, AI and ICJ looked the other side. I was sad seeing the enormous destruction of the entire region, with stray cattle from abandoned farms; coconut plantations abandoned due to land mines in ground; homes, schools, places of religious worship and factories in towns and suburbs destroyed beyong repair etc. It is time to prevent this happening again anywhere in the world and as a deterrent, those war criminals who supported this conflict now living overseas, running LTTE front organisations, should be charged for crimes by their host nations.
Congratulations “Friends of Sri Lanka” for taking the initiative in Canada.

Anyone who is friend of Sri Lanka is a friend of mine too. We should be greatful and thankful to those who sacrifice their valuable lives to save our Motherland for thirty long years and those who courageously fought the devil of Prabakaran who was supported by India and other western countries. If there is a visitor who has visited North and East then and now clearly can see the difference in the people’s face and the environment in those areas.

All our enemies should visit our beuatiful land and see by their own eyes before believing those evil, power hungry, ungreatful Sri Lankans belongs to all ethnics whether Sinhalese,Tamils OR Muslims who have run and hide behind white slaves in the western world. There’s no other country like Sri Lanka in this world. Allow us to live in peace.Come and join us to rebuilt our land without destroying it’s beauty and peace in good faith for all of us to live happily.
