Healthy Looking Asylum Seekers?

Honourable Minister
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Federal Government of Australia

Dear Sir,

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ All TV media here in Australia showed Tamil boat people making a plea from the government to absorb them to Australia as they can never live in Sri Lanka for fear of being persecuted.

These are people who left after the war having spent their life in the jungle as human shields almost for three months. We were told during this time they were deprived of food, medicine and other basic amenities. Then they somehow fled to Indonesia, after months in dire conditions managed to set sail to Australia after paying U$15,000/person!

Did any of you see any one suffering from malnutrition? These are people who have been telling to the gullible West that they donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t have food, Medicine and all other basic amenities and they have been living in absolute poverty.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lankans generally can speak good English but not forward enough to talk the talk you heard unless they got polished elsewhere, especially children of that age is very backward to talk to strangers, however this child who looked very malnourished? My foot! Spoke with extreme maturity. Tamils from the North do not speak perfect English at all, even Dr.Sam Pari who was interviewed in that clip does not speak perfect English either, unlike the two who did from the boat!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These people who have been running for life for nearly three months in the thick jungle nearly 100Km with the LTTE leader Prabakaran as his human shields also carried loads of U$ Dollars enough for them to hire a boat one day to reach their ultimate goal! So, can we say Barnaby Joyce a silly man? If he is not who then?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I believe most of these have spent time under refugee status in USA, Canada or in the UK and being denied of residency, so they came to Indonesia as the last resort, that is why they showed these special features. Just a calculated hunch!

Bottom line is they never suffered at any point! Their only motive is to migrate to a Western country by passing all Asian countries on their way!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These are some facts for you to consider for eligibility for residency. I am least bothered if they get residency due to the ignorance of the selection criteria.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ However if these facts are disregarded, I feel sad for some cheaters to rubbish a country that has well looked after them extremely well till they set sail with loads of U$ dollars for you to show the milk of human kindness and embrace them!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Yours Sincerely,

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Vajiragnana Warnakulasuriya,
Melbourne

My heart was bleeding when I saw these children in boats. These little kids are been used to stir up human emotions. There are 70 million Tamils in Tamil Nadu. The leaders of Tamil Nadu constantly worry about Sri Lankan Tamils in North and East. These stricken people should head to Tamil Nadu where they would be welcomed with open arms. Dr.Sam Pari should go to live in jungles of Sri Lanka where he can improve his english.

Some people are so ungreatful. Sri Lanka gave them free education, see how well they speak even from jungles of north and east. Some of them had European or North American accents too. How did that happen? Are there any International schools in killinochchi? The Sri Lankan government fed Tamil refugees for 30 years, that is why they looked very healthy. The Sri Lankan government should be thanked for feeding IDPs so well.

Per capita income in Sri Lanka is $4300. ( I am talking about purchasing power and not of quality of life. Sri Lankans have a higher quality of life because of free education and free medical care). All these people have paid $15,000 for the journey. Those who headed to Canada paid $45,000. How can you earn this kind of US Dollars in Sri Lanka? Whole affair is very puzzling. Did they have money printing machine in the boat?

Please be greatful to the land that gave you birth! To the country that gave you free education even at University level ( You won’t get that in Australia, there is HECS!), country that fed you and saved you from clutches of LTTE!
Please don’t spred lies about Sri Lanka. If you can not love and respect the land which gave you life, how could you love a foreign land!

If one really wants to migrate, it is not very hard to do. Please check with the embassy. All you need is an qualification and some experience in a field that is in demand. Go to Australian High Commission in Colombo. They got all the details, Wish you succsess.

I agree with Aravinda. All these people are bunch of opportunistic because they know that Australia is a soft target. During the war majority of them deceived Westerners to gain sympathy and some politicians openly supported LTTE sympathisers and that was the part of the problem. This was not the first time that children were used as shields for their own benefit. We saw how kids were used by LTTE sympathisers when they were protesting during the last phase of the war. You cannot save such a huge amount of money unless somebody send money from a foreign country or you work in a country like Middle East for a long time. Once they obtain their refugee status (permanent residency) first thing they do is get a plane ticket and travel back to the country they betrayed without any fear of their lives. Hope Australia will not fall into these traps.

The moment I heard on SBS the voice of the spokes person for the boat people, ‘Alex’ a boat person himself that he and the little girls were not immediately from Sri Lanka. I have lived out side my homeland for more than 30 years I still can’t speak with that accent. These people, at least some of them are part of the LTTE global network. They have the money and the skills to do it. But who cares if they do not want Sri Lanka let them go. Sad side is that gullible ignorant suckers like Haig are writing damaging reports about Sri Lanka in Australian news papers. There is nothing we can do. But continue our good work for the innocent people.

Some excellent points are made both in the article and by the previous respondents. Yes, for a group who allegedly spent weeks in the Malaysian jungles, they look disgustingly healthy and well fed. If they are LTTE cadres or supporters Australia clearly cannot have them. If they are not, then there is no reason why they cannot return to Sri Lanka. A refugee is one with a GENUINE fear (not a bogus made up thing) of persecution in the home country. This simply does not apply to any Tamil in Sri Lanka. These people have very simply paid their way to get where they are in the confident hope (based on how previous groups have succeeded) that the Australian authorities will fall for their hard luck story and let them in. They are now threatening to fast to death if they are not given refuge in a western country. So, what concern are they showing for their children? Are they going to deprive the children of their food as well? Considering what one of their compatriots did in London, pitching into McDonald hamburgers on the sly while purportedly being on a fast, no-one is likely to take seriously the threat of a Sri Lankan Tamil to fast to death. This group has been shifting its position from day to day. Given that, can we believe anything they say?
