I could not agree less with Mr. Rajarathnam. A Permanent residentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of the UnitedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ States should not be appointed even as an Ambassador to represent Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If Americans invade Sri Lanka, whoƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s side is General Fonseka going to take? General should first give up his PR of the United States before asking the people of Sri Lanka to make him the President of Sri Lanka.
My advice to General Fonseka is to stay out of politics without getting mud all over him and let people remember him ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as a war hero, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ along with General Kobbakaduwa and other soldiers, who fought ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to save the country. DonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t be a puppet of scare crows of UNP and JVP.
Remember that JVP was as destructive as LTTE who put the country behind by many years, by destroying the public property such as power supply, CTB busses. Poor students who want to get a UniversityƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Degree from Sri Lankan Universities are still lagging behind others who could go overseas to do higher studies. According to what I heard RanilƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s people tortured and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ killed JVP and non JVP kids, during the mad insurrection of JVP.
Who is the army general who could have wonƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ a war unless he has orders and full financial and moral support from the president, prime minister and the peopleƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of the country?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If the General is the main hero, why couldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t he do this during the regime of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-mighty ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- J R Jayawardane? ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Or even during the regime of Anil who bowed to the pressure of foreign elements such as Norway and was chasing his tail around, while the LTTE was building up their war capabilities.

If the General is the main hero, why couldn’t he do this during the regime of “mighty “ J R Jayawardane?
When the war broke out in 1983, our Army was poorly trained, not enough skills to deal with counter insurgency threats, they had no proper equipment and it had only dealt with home grown counter terrorism in 1971. As you all know in those days their main duties were to deploy ceremonial guards.
Minister Lalith Ahulathmudali admitted that we have ceremonial forces and he took the challenge to convert it to a combat Force therefore started importing military equipment and sending people abroad for Counter Insurgency training.
Normally it takes years for this trnsformation, that is from Ceremonial Force to combat force and at the biggining of 1987 it had been achieved, which is why in 1987 Jayawardene regime handed over the command to Gen Kobbekaduwa who launched a massive operation called Operation Liberation commonly known as Vadamarachchi Operation, in which Gotabaya Rajapakse was one of the commanders, in order to wipe out LTTE. But Jayawardene regime had two distictive threats A. From LTTE with the backing of India B. Growing escalation of voialance in the south by JVP. And also Rajive Gandhi directly intervened to stop the Military Operation.
That is the reason why it was not completed in Jayawardene era.

Orpheus, please may I ask why would Amrica attack SL as you envisage? Just because of these two dum clownes Jeffery Lunsted and Robert Blake wanted to annex SL to Tamil Nadu, does not equate, that every American is anti Sinhala. Problem is because Sinhala in America are not organized like the Tamil Sangahm and does not present the Sinhala case to the US Congress and the Sanate in a strong way. Please take into account that, when the Sovite Union got dismantled in estern europe, all the elected heads of states did have dual citizenship! American and the country of their birth. Now, lets see why JR could not do the same thing way back then. JR went to ask presedent Ragna for help and he flatly refuse. (Late Lalith Athulathmudali went to ask for military equipment from US and he was turned down. Only Isreal and Pakistan provided the military equipment openly) JR could not go to Russia or China because they were not intrested. So Rajive Gandhi got the opportunity to write the 13th and 17th ammendment. Because of this, SL constitution became a BAHU BUTHA constitution. It did not start from Rajiv, it was started by Jawaharlal his grand father. Jawaharlal came to Ceylon in 1939 and wrote a contitution for the Tamil tea estate workers, so, after the independence tea estates will be annexed to Tamil Nadu and ruled by them. The harm Indira Gandhi did to sinhala by arming JVP in the south and LTTE in the north must not be forgotton.
I would say SF should be allowed even he gets this US citizenship. Now, is he going to win HA! no chance. HE MR has done so much, he should get at least 65 to 75 % votes. He told a press conference that he will void the Rajiv Gandhi ammendments, 13th, 17th and the constitution council. WHAT ELSE SHOULD SINHALA ASK FROM THIS GREAT visionary?

I think SF is a idiot. Listne to his press conforance. He does not have any vision. He said he getting advice from UNP for economics matters. They are extreame cpitalist. What about other partner JVP they are extreame sociolist. I can understand what is motive behind this man come forward. Any Sri Lankan who wise enough shuld vote MR.
I think Sri Lankans better off with known CRIPLE person rather than unknown DUMB person.
