A few lines down the news item, it said, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The Elders, a council of retired global leaders led by Desmond Tutu, issues statement on Tuesday rebuking the government of Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Ha! WellƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦ I thought, Desmond.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Trying to find who these great world leaders were I found out that they included Kofi Annan and Jimmy Carter and of course, the inimitable you leading the pack.
ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The EldersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ you called yourself, and I expected you all to be a bunch like The Elders of the First Nations communities, who have been a group of greatly respected members of the communities of the North American Native peoples.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ They were the primary source of all the knowledge that has been accumulated by their communities as they are teachers, philosophers, historians, healers, judges and counsellors.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These are the elders who have been the keepers of spiritual ceremonies and traditional laws and have sustained First Nations through thousands of years.
So Desmond, you lot stole the words ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The EldersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ hoping that the title will bring you lot the same gloryƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as of The Elders of the First Nations who are wise-men, the philosophers, the healers, et cetera.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But looking at you lot, Desmond Tutu, Kofi Annan and Jimmy Carter, you guys are no wise-men, nor philosophers, and nor are you healers.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ You guys are a good-for-nothing lot who pretend to be the modern day ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The EldersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Rubbish!
Kofi Annan, has no moral right to talk about Sri Lanka, while still carrying in his back-pack the burden of the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”UN oil-for-food scandal which involved SaddamƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Iraqi government that used an estimated $10 billion diverting the proceeds illegally under the UNƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s auspices.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ One of the alleged beneficiaries happened to be KofiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s son.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ So which is the moral ground that Kofi stands on to wag his finger at Sri Lanka, Desmond?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Ask your suspect Elder Kofi to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Shut UpƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ when he wants to snicker and charge Sri Lanka of misdemeanours.
When Jimmy Carter should be helping his Katrina storm (2005) affected Americans who 60 months later are still languishing in Trailer parks in Louisiana and New Orleans, he has no business to act a wise-man to comment on Sri Lanka that sent back 240,000 Tamils to their original homes in 11 months which were ravaged from a 27 year war.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Where is the comparison Desmond, where is the tortured logic of your, The Elders?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Remind Jimmy that he should focus his smart Alec comments on the Trailer Park emergency housing where Americans live having being affected by the Hurricane Camille of 1969. Ask him to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Shut UpƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ too when he tries to act a Smart AlecƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ commenting on Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ And Desmond, where is your ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Hallelujah!
