Sri Lanka elections & Tamil voter mentality

Democracy in Sri Lanka accepts the right for political parties to contest & people to vote for their choice but in reality governance will fall into one of two parties only. That is the undeniable truth. The recently concluded local body election results were proof that delivering peace, offering freedom, providing development has no bearing on the minds of Tamil voters. It is important that the rest of Sri Lanka & the world read the message behind the results. Why would Tamils continue to vote for separatism?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

The propaganda campaign championed by separatist activists both home & abroad have orchestrated the necessity to separate & fight for a Tamil eelaam. Sinhala racism is what they use & Sinhala discrimination is what they say is enough grounds to seek refugee status & for foreign Governments to side with the separatist agenda & support a separatist homeland quest. Thus, 1million Tamils today have made up the Tamil Diaspora, in the height of the LTTE they were able to accumulate USD300m annually, foreign leaders & Governments have openly supported the quest for eelaam though banning it.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

But there is a catch. The oft used excuse as the trigger point to take up arms has been the Sinhala-Only language policy introduced by then Prime Minister S W R D Bandaranaike in 1956. How was it that S J V Chelvanayakam formed the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) party on the basis of separating & creating an Eelaam in 1949?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

To clothe the agenda behind the party the English translation for ITAK was given as Federal Party. ChelvanayagamƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s goals for a separate state were ratified in the Vaddukoddai resolution of 14th May 1976. The convention called on “the Tamil Nation in general and the Tamil youth in particular to come forward and throw themselves fully in the sacred fight for freedom and to fight till the goal of a sovereign socialist state of Tamil Eelam is reached.”

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

It is therefore clear that Tamils & the separatist agenda had nothing whatsoever to do with Sinhala discrimination or racism. On the other hand much of the separatist sentiments taking place in IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Tamil Nadu since 1920s came to be shared amongst Tamils in Sri Lanka. The struggle in Tamil Nadu was for a Dravida Nadu or Dravidistan a proposed sovereign state for all speakers of Dravidian languages in South Asia. The concept of Dravida Nadu had its root in the anti-Brahmin movement in Tamil Nadu, whose aim was to end the alleged Brahmin dominance in the Tamil society and government. But, in reality it was to create a separate sovereign state. There are 74million Tamils living across the world & 64million of this number live in Tamil Nadu. 11million Dalilts or low castes live in Tamil Nadu that is 20% of the regionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s population. More than 50% live below the poverty line. Dalits own no land, majority work as land workers & over 90% are illerate. Indian statistics had revealed that 40,000 dalit children go missing annually & the Indian authorities have ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-failedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ to tackle the issue. LTTE agents had been offering payments from Rs.10,000 upto Rs.25,000 to these poor Dalit families for recruiting them. Some have been turned into suicide cadres while others are used for prostitution, forced labor, sale of body parts etc. This is one good reason why there is controversy over the real population statistics of the North & East especially during the period that LTTE prevailed in Sri Lanka. The numbers of civilians amongst LTTE & how far they are ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Sri LankanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ remains a big question mark.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

The undeniable truth is that for an ethnic group as large as the Tamils, it has been denied a separatist state status. It has fought democratically for it in India but India had been effective to constitutionally deny any party or person from separating from India. We donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t need to be repeated of IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s gameplan in importing that separatist struggle to Sri Lanka to delay & deny such in Tamil Nadu. Nevertheless, with Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ability to crush & eliminate LTTE terrorism in Sri Lanka, the recent visit of Hillary Clinton & her meeting with Tamil Nadu leader Jayalalitha must surely wake up a sleeping Indian government into realizing that some meetings are not ideal especially when western governments openly declare their decision to support rebel groups. India is no peaceful nation & poverty can easily resurrect separatism this time in Tamil Nadu itself! India please beware!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Returning to the question of elections it is natural for most to think that upon freeing the Tamils from LTTE at the least a sense of gratitude ought to prevail. Inability to understand why Tamils may lack gratitude will depend upon who one questions. Thus, if one asks Tamils who directly suffered from the LTTE what they would say would be totally different to what Tamils who have been living amongst the Sinhalese or those living overseas would say. Therefore, one is unlikely to get a coherent answer to determine whether Tamils are truly happier without the LTTE. However in the rest of Sri Lanka whatever political party people may belong to, even UNPers are not shy to appreciate the achievement by the armed forces & the Government.

This is why it becomes difficult for us to fathom how Tamils think.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

In a country where elections & voting systems makes it impossible for any party other than the two main political parties to between them run the country, it makes logically sense to vote the main opposition directly & bring that party into power while overthrowing the incumbent party if the people are dissatisfied with its governance. Therefore, the only way that people can show dissent towards the ruling party is to vote for the main opposition & bring that party back to power. Voting for smaller parties who are insignificant in so far as making a countrywide impact really makes no sense though it sends a different message.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

It was in 2009 that the armed forces carried out the worldƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s first humanitarian rescue operation alongside a military drive that crushed & eliminated the entire LTTE leadership & captured surviving LTTE cadres who are now undergoing rehabilitation before being reintroduced into civil society. While the entire country especially the people outside of the North rejoiced we expected Tamils in the North to feel that same or even greater jubilation for it was they who were suffering far more than others. Outside the North & East, we suffered unpredicted bomb attacks & suicide attempts but it was in the North & East that people had to live in fear of their children been snatched & turned into terrorists or have their wealth taken from them including their lands. Three decades to live amongst a terror outfit would have made the majority accustomed to terror & mentally accept their life amongst a terrorist group but post 2009 & two years thereafter we would have thought that people in the North & East in particular would have wanted to become part of the rest of the island & think of themselves as part of the Sri Lankan family.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

The Tamils of the North & East can never deny that in addition to the provisions sent to the North & East by the Government, the people of the South united to send enormous loads of food, clothing, medicines & other necessities throughout LTTE domination despite presence of a large number of NGOs/INGOs in these areas. From early 2009 when the armed forces started to break LTTE defences the people were quick to unite & send across emergency provisions.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Today, many people visit the North on a daily basis to see for themselves an area that they had been denied entry to & to also strike links with people that are very much part of Sri Lanka. They return appreciative of the massive development drives taking place as well as the hospitality afforded to them by the residents of the North & East. What puzzles these people is why the Tamil people of these areas should continue to associate themselves with separatist agendas. Today they can make choices without fear.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

We can well understand that prior to the LTTE defeat, these people would have lived in fear of their own lives. The LTTE had practically eliminated all Tamil moderate leaders & those Tamil leaders that survived are alive solely because they chose to openly support the LTTE. So voting for Tamil political parties pre-LTTE defeat & post-LTTE defeat certainly has mixed connotations & signals different messages. In the present context, given that Tamils are voting for political parties that aspire to separate from Sri Lanka & voting so without fear of bullets or death it clearly spells that Tamils are voting for separatism it clearly indicates to the rest of Sri Lanka that Tamils continue to want to separate & create an eelaam.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Many would argue that Tamils are compelled to vote for the incumbent Government as a gesture of gratitude. On the contrary, if Tamils of the North & East are not happy with the Government the logical thing would have been to vote for the main Opposition ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the UNP. Both these political groups are represented by all ethnic groups. Voting as they have done has not made the Government loose in any way. At most what Tamils have done is to in reality strengthen RajapakseƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Government further. The simple truth is that as a Government that has saved the country from terrorism, the gratitude of the South will remain despite the scores of corrupt practices that are being associated with the Government. Therefore, every time foreign leaders, war crimes probe calls etc & even lack of Tamil voter appreciation takes place, the Southern voters will protect the Government with the numbers & in the game of politics thatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s what counts & thatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s what will keep the Government in power.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Sooner or later, minorities especially minority parties must realize that in a country of 20million wherein 15million make up the Sinhalese population, it is advisable to live in a reconciled manner instead of taking the path of separatism for that is likely to fail & likely to take them further away from democratic rule & they would only have themselves to blame.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

The Tamil Nation Alliance formed in 2001 comprise of 5 political parties ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” ITAK, ACTC, TULF, EPRLF & TELO. Its website http://www.tamilalliance.net/index.php?page=about-us&hl=en gives the following policies.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Tamil National Alliance Election Manifesto 2004

“…..Accepting LTTEƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s leadership as the national leadership of the Tamil Eelam Tamils and the Liberation Tigers as the sole and authentic representatives of the Tamil people, let us devote our full cooperation for the ideals of the Liberation TigersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ struggle with honesty and steadfastness.Let us endeavour determinedly, collectively as one group, one nation, one country, transcending race and religious differences, under the leadership of the LTTE for a life of liberty, honor and justice for the Tamil people….”

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Tamil National Alliance Election Manifesto 2001

“……..unless meaningful negotiations are held with the L.T.T.E. no just solution can be found to the Tamil national question and that such negotiations should be held immediately only with the LTTE. This Alliance further states that in order to ensure that the negotiations are properly focussed and are purposeful and successful, no parallel negotiations should take place with any other Tamil political formation…..”

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Vaddukkoddai Resolution 1976 May 14

“…And this Convention calls upon the Tamil Nation in general and the Tamil youth in particular to come forward to throw themselves fully into the sacred fight for freedom and to flinch not till the goal of a sovereign state of TAMIL EELAM is reached….”ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

On the same website under ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Our HomelandƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ it reads ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Geographically the island of Ceylon appears as one land but historically there have been two nations in it. North and the East of the island of Ceylon is the traditional homeland of TamilsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. It declares Amparai, Batticola, Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Mannar, Puttalam & Vavuniya as the Administrative Districts of the Tamil Homeland.

Why does the Government remain silent to such open acts of separatist tendencies & not seek legal action to stop political parties such as ITAK & others openly canvass for separatism?

In many ways the Government must be happy with the results of the North for it can continue to say that it will despite peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s lack of support continue the development drives & the negative response by the people of the North will only make Southern voters to provide the political backing needed for survival for in the minds of the people of the South they do not wish to loose the freedom gained at any cost. That is one reason why UNP has failed Sri Lanka especially its votebase by compromising the integrity of the country towards appeasing foreign interests. If UNP wonders why it cannot reach out to the people it is important for UNP to realize that aligning itself to minorities alone especially those that aspire separatism is unlikely to ever give them the numbers needed to govern. In politics it is numbers that count & the Rajapakse Government has mastered how to win the majority vote.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Tamils need to realize that aligning themselves to political parties that aspire separatism is unlikely to get them anywhere. Neither will these parties ever be able to come into power nor will the Tamil people be regarded as Sri Lankans until they shirk themselves from the desire to separate. Aligning to political parties that work towards their own policies of development in Sri Lanka is certainly different to aligning & voting for political parties that openly desire to separate. These political parties may have vocalized separatism out of fear during the LTTE pogrom however with the LTTE eliminated when they continue to openly work towards separatism it means that the dangers of rebels emerging still exists & the Government has every right to continue the high security zone areas throughout the North & East as well as monitor the areas for such movements coming up. We must not forget that the LTTE started out as a group of just a handful of brainwashed youth & became the worldƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s most ruthless terrorist outfit.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Tamils need to now look within and understand & accept their own errors post-LTTE defeat & rethink how they should function amongst Sri Lankan society. Repeated again lest anyone misunderstands is that Tamils are not being asked to vote for the UPFA but Tamils need to realize that they must now firmly say no to Tamil political parties that aspire to separate from Sri Lanka. It behoves all Tamils to take that first important step for no amount of reconciliation will work until they abandon the thought of creating a separate Tamil homeland.

  1. PRIYAN WIJEYERATNE Says:

I think the only way out of this complex issue is to spread Sinhalese people in these areas and balance the racial mix. So that room for mono-ethnic ideals would be eliminated. Government must start doing it now. They can bring in foreign investors and with them Sinhalese can go to work.

  2. AnuD Says:

We talk about SWRDB Sinhala only policy. Why it is wrong. We praise western democracy. But,all those countries have only one language policy. Even UK had more than one language initially. But,now everybody talks only the English.

  3. Lorenzo Says:

Yes, no amount of reconciliation will work unless Tamils give up homeland demands. But they will NEVER EVER give that up.

They are under pressure from the Diaspora and Tamil Nadu. Tamils in SL consider them relatives and friends.

I don’t think we will go anywhere blaming SL’s Tamils or expecting them to change. They are trapped in the middle of these two larger evils they can’t control and are totally helpless. They cannot reach to others because if they do so, they lose their relatives.

We have to look beyond Tamils to resolve this problem. Tamils’ support for a homeland is a given. Lets take that as a given and formulate a plan to save SL.

  4. thurai Says:

Don´t be hurry to decide after the election result. We must analyse carefully the voters and the areas in the North and east. In some areas, small Island and Delft around Jaffna supported about 70 percent for the Government.
It is clear the people depends on other parts of SriLanka against seperatism. The supporters of TNA
are mostly Internal Traders, officers, and peoples depends on diaspora. Also law cast & poor people who
belive TNA will help them by giving jobs in the future also supported. It is like LTTE cheated diaspora
with Tamileelam voice. In this world Cheaters are winners.

We, people like unity and peace in Sri Lanka must march forward with hope . Like eliminating LTTE from Sri Lanka with arms, we have to use our heads to remove the armless TNA from Tamils and Sri Lanka.

  5. Charles Says:

    I agree with Priyan Wijeratne.

We have to break this mono-ethnic mind set. That could be done by mixing the communities without allowing ghettos to arise, like in Colombo where there are Tamil enclaves.

There must be a real mix up of Communities both in North and East. Until that is doen no police and land rights should be given to Provincial Councils as the TNA begins to demand. The HSZ should not be removed . There should be separte areas reserved for the Military and their families to live as it is in Cyprus, where there is a large area reserved for the British Army and their families, with facilities like schools churches, swiming pools and Hospitals.

This should not be delayed. The West has no love either for the Tamils or for the other Communities. It is a fallacy if the local Tamils or those among the Expatriate Tamils believe that. The West has its own Agenda, they will use and all new concepts like “human rights”, “accountability” etc.to achieve that.

But how to make the Government understand that it should go ahead with these changes without waiting another form of a “Tamil terrorism” would be set by the International Community. They are coming to it with EU withdrawing trade concessions, America imposing sanctions, and UK imposing fines for “Hedging”. What more ?

  6. andylingam Says:

Ref:these poor Dalit families for recruiting them. Some have been turned into suicide cadres
Dear Shenali Waduge do not try to missed SL Tamil s & TN Tamils Dalit people, FYI, All black (Suicide cardes) LTTE (186 ?) are Srilankan Tamils.

Ref:Tamils’ support for a homeland is a given. Lets take that as a given and formulate a plan to save SL.
Agreed Lorenzo , We Srilankan should work out a our home make formulate before outsider come with their fomula !

    Tamil voter mentality
They have waited Two whole years , but All our Head of states promises were failed
    1) APCR Report( Mr Tissa report)
    2) offered 13 + after election
    3) if get 2/3 majority , will solve Tamil problm over night.
    4) Now Parliment select committe ,
commmon Sir , A saying in Tamil Puli Passichachalum Pullaith Thinnathu ( even staving Tiger won’t eat grace) !

  7. dhane Says:

If D.S. Senanayakka’s colonization in North continued by now Sinhalese, Muslim & other people spread in all areas and balance the racial mix. So that room for mono-ethnic would have eliminated. It’s not too late to start again. Also like India SL should introduced in our constitution that no separatism could discussed and no more Vaddukkoddai Resolution. Let West /USA help 64 Million Tamils to create their Homeland in Tamil Nudu and India to fight for life time. Since India is becoming a powerful country and threat to West/USA its not a surprise or their long term agenda. This is what West/USA did and doing for the last many years round the world.

  8. thurai Says:

Only reason for the so called Tamil rights by TNA is Violences in the south against Tamils in the past.
Under LTTE Terrorism in the north and east Tamils settled in the south and Sinhalese understand
the situation. There were no any significant violences against Tamils for the last 30 years in the south.

TNA is able to get support from Tamils only after defeating LTTE by SLG forces.
Is TNA accepting the defeat of LTTE or not ?Who are responsible for Deaths of Tamil during the war? The person
from Diaspora tried to safegurd LTTE for their own benefit or SLG? TNA have right now to open their mouth.

The Tamil Diaspora like GTF and TGTE are showing killing of Tamils to safegurd LTTE not assisting Tamil community in Sri Lanka. TNA have the reason of earlier violences to gain power among Tamils. TNA and LTTE are
    not considering present situation.

LTTE and TNA want a violence aginst Tamil to safegurd their monoply among Tamils. Because of this
dangerous eliments which play with Tamil´s life. We all must unite to safegurd Tamil community
and show the world who are terrorist and murderes.

  9. andylingam Says:

Ref: no any significant violences against Tamils for the last 30 years in the south.
Agreed Thurai, But Why SL head of state not hounring his promised ! why he is changing his baila all the time.

We Srilankan Tamil need real hepl from Sinhala brothers & Sisters to eleminated these terrorist and murderes ( TNA & LTTE( now called BTF, GTF, TGTE) from our mother lanka for ever !!!!

  10. Fran Diaz Says:

Our thanks to Shenali for this article. Here are some thoughts on the topic.

    * Tamil leaders have pointed the Tamil people in the direction of a separate Tamil State a long time ago, and a separate state was requested by Tamil leaders even when the British ruled Sri Lanka (1930s & 1940s). The Sinhala people had nothing to do with this decision for a Tamil State. Sinhala people have been dragged into the Tamil State issue simply because they do NOT want this separate Tamil State in Sri Lanka. THIS PRINCIPLE OF “NO DEMAND CAN BE MADE FOR A SEPARATISM IN SRI LANKA” SHOULD BE INCORPORATED INTO OUR CONSTITUTION.

    * In the Sri Lanka Census, there are headings by ethnicity viz. Sinhala, Tamil, Burgher, etc. and then there is a heading under “Muslims”, which is not an ethnicity but a religion. In that case, to give an accurate picture, it should be titled as “Tamil Muslims” or words to indicate ethnicities in this religious group. Otherwise, the Census will not reflect the true ethnic picture in the country.

    * We feel that the topic of “Dalits” should be brought into the open and discussed freely & fairly. Do not sweep this topic under the carpets. Once brought out into the open and aired, this 3,000 yr old sting will lose its venom.

    * That illegal migrants came into Sri Lanka from Tamil Nadu during the time the ltte ruled those areas in the N&E is evident
by the unusual & unexpected increase in numbers of IDPs after the war with the ltte. The army estimate of hostages by ltte were around 100,000 plus, whereas the actual number of hostages were around 300,000 plus. How did the number increase by such a large amount ?

    * The only way to yet again Save the Tamils of the N&E (Stage II) from divisive politics of TNA, further alienation of Sri Lanka’s Tamil people & resulting future disaster, is to have multi-ethnic populations in the N&E.

  11. andylingam Says:

Ref:* That illegal migrants came into Sri Lanka from Tamil Nadu during the time the ltte ruled those areas in the N&E is evident
Fran Diaz, I do not know where you all Sinhalese get info from , FYI, no single illegal migrants ( from TN) into Srilanka since 1948 .

  12. jimmy Says:

    agree with Andy Lingam
Dr Fran where did you get this info that Illegal Immigrants from Tnadu came to Lanka
    Never heard of it

I agree every one should be partrotic to Srilanka
In the meantime wrong infos should not be spread like the one you are saying

  13. Leela Says:

2011, July local government election results of the North should be an eye opener to all Sinhalese. Let Sinhalese have no doubt that majority of Tamils have voted for separation and not for development. Let Sinhalese know that majority Tamils have nothing but separation in their mind no matter where they live.

As Shenali says, tell-tail signs for such an outcome have been there all along. And many a Sinhalese knew it as well. Only, they didn’t want to act as they knew it, let alone respond to it. But we must change that attitude forthwith.

Of cause, apathetic and silly people, the types in the NGOs tried to convince us, particularly the UNP backers that enforcement of ’13A plus’ would have changed that Tamil stance. Its a good thing that voting also shows UNPers didn’t buy that ploy.

Anyway, we patriots knew that Tamils would have only grabbed any devolution (13A plus or minus) to embolden their separatism further. Now, we’ve seen it for real. So, the simple question now is; how could we respond positively to this trend.

I say, the government should abolish regional or provincial devolution (13A) and preferential voting system immediately. Instead, we should delegate more power to town and village level units. At the same time, we should introduce a some form of scheme to share power at the center.

And, Sinhalese should compel and force themselves into the North and East, and assimilate with Tamils to form a non homogeneous society in the North and East. At the ground level, we should never encourage or allow any community to institutionalize any form of Bantuism anywhere in this country. Otherwise, all the sacrifices we made to win the Waddukkodai wars would be in vain.
    Leela

  14. Lorenzo Says:

Heartening to see that everyone who comment here hold no grudge against Tamils but want to FURTHER reach out to Tamils and assimilate with them in the north east.

I think this is the true peaceful spirit. What a noble thought!

Fully agree with Priyan W. We should help Tamils assimilate into multi ethnic societies whether they like it or not. It can only do good.

  15. jayt Says:

which Sri lanka politician brought home fomula and made it work? Have a sweet sweet dream!

  16. Fran Diaz Says:

Regarding Illegal Migration from Tamil Nadu :

This is a fact : JRJ govt. had a special unit to combat illegal migrants from TN. It was called Task Force against Illegal Migration
(TAFAI). Check it out. Also, ask Rev. Reyappu Joseph about this matter. He knows a great deal about it. Also, Kachativu is an island en route to Mannar, the favored spot to land illegal migrants. That is why there is a furor over K’tivu from Ms Jayalalitha.

Can anyone explain how the projected figure of by the SL Army of 100,000 plus hostages taken became 300,000 plus ?

  17. jayt Says:

Here is formula that sinhalese should remember and make it worlk. First, Sri lanka millatry have to establish Spy training college and establish a globle spy agency to match the world. Second, Station half milion Sinhalese spies who are fluent in Arabic and Urdu and in english in the embassies, UN offices, UN peace keeping forces around the globe and in the north of Sri lanka. Third, try to get Sri lankan millatry hardware building skills such as mini submarine, lighter attack aircrafts, regular fighter jets and other war machines. and have world market for them too.

This is only a little part of a formula. And if you really want deffend Sri lanka from the west , then you have to adopt excact western formulas and their rules to meet the west. This is what excactlly Pakistan is. Pakistan is the only third world country that has powerful intilligent agency whose knowlege compatible to western agencies but they downgraded after presedent Mushraaf left and that’s why pakistan turn into a greater chaos.
Remember one Imam from Pakistan red Mosque said “if Pakistan is destroyed, that is the end of the world. That is absulately true; next is China. and India is nothing. Today, India is safe becouse on one side all Islamic countries and on eastern side all eastern islamic countries and china.

Now with peace. is peace in the world is possible? yes if only US and Eu stop esponage, intervetion, and conspiracy against other countries and give back Palstinian land back to Palstenian and sign peace agreement with Israelis and Palstenian with two states solution. And if Palestinian or Israelis sabotage it, then it is not a Western problem, but dangerous threat peace in the world.

  18. Nanda Says:

Tamils should be treated with same kindness, politeness and treatement as Dalits are treated in India.

  19. jayt Says:

Pease for Sri lanka won’t come untill Israeli-Palastinian issues are solved. THis probles is link to all part of the world. Therfore, if the West shows interest in geting Israel at least to give back Plastenian area and have their own state, then it is good for Israel and Palastenian: Israel will be recognised by not only Arab countries but all Muslim countries and Palstenian and other Muslim will stay out of terrorism and enjoy economic prosperity

  20. andylingam Says:

Ref:projected figure of by the SL Army of 100,000 plus hostages taken became 300,000 plus ?
Fran Diaz, 100,000 lie created to cold down the TN & Western to finish off VP & Co by our govt.

like Lorenzo said We know ourself no iligal immegation from TN ( through Kachchdivu) . We (SL) are the one living in TN, one (150.000) of the waste camp in the world still living in TN with out passport & money to come back to our motherlanka(Urukku -village) &
if our head of states is genivie to say Nan ungal Sakothran (I am your brother) He should agrange all these people to come back immediatly ,they will definitly make sure vettiyin sinnam veththilai sinnam ( leave sign is wining sign )

Leela, I know your feeling , long way to go ….. eg: in NP every family have atleast one maveerar so We can not expect them to vote for UNP or SLFP with in two years period.

  21. ranjit Says:

I respect all different view points of all you guys but I am angry with the Tamils because they chose the wrong path in every election after eliminating terrorism from our land.Yes we have some good Tamils among us who likes to live as normal good human beings like Kadirgama and ofcourse my friend Andy and some but not the majority Tamils who are dancing to the tunes of terrorists. They should understand that they cannot live alone without Sinhalese help or assistance from our Government. The Government is not for one section of our citizens but for all and that’s why after the war they started all sorts of development around the country to benefit all citizens. We must appreciate what they have done and doing now after thirty years of darkness. Wake up people be reasonable and help each other as brothers and sisters without crying for seperation or more powers. Dont believe in those TNA LTTE proxies and ruined your lives. Just think as other Sri Lankans and serve your homeland with sincere heart. Do not day dream for more and more and cry crocodile tears. Only way to go forward is to support this Government and make our country strong unitedly.

  22. Leela Says:

andylingam, I agree that every other family in the North has a maveerar and therefore we shouldn’t expect change of their attitude in just two years. I also agree that we shouldn’t let down our effort to develop the North and assist war affected people. At the same time, we should also let ordinary people know that TNA will never succeed their little now and more later tactics to reach Eelam.
    Leela

  23. andylingam Says:

Agreed Leela, if you realy analys NP council voting if will find NP people are changing !

Nedundivu (Delft) & Urkavaddudai ( Kytes) people votde for SLFP (Veththilai sinnam ) now, This kytes district was one of the TULF strong hold ( to elect K P Reththinam MP) in Amirthalingam time.

So We are in right direction with right Head of state !
Agreed we shouldn’t let down our effort to develop the North and assist war affected people.

  24. Fran Diaz Says:

Our pain with a section of the Tamil people comes from the lies, cheat & deceit spread by the ltte rump & their sympathisers abroad e.g. Ch-4 film which still being shown in Canada, even though it has been proved a FAKE. Why is it that the rest of Sri Lanka people have yet to show a film of the true events in the past 30 yrs with eyewitness accounts ? If we are to live in peace together abroad or in Lanka, the truth must be told in every sphere. It is useless trying to hide the truth when in our hearts we know what is true. How can there be real trust & acceptance of all Tamils when there are so many lies spread around to villify this country and the people of Sri Lanka ?.

I do not condone rioting in any form, but all communal dissent with the Tamil people started with the call for a separate state for Tamils only, the call for 50-50 etc. The TNA should stop provocative calls at least now. It is up to the Tamil people to integrate with the rest of society here. While some Tamil people have written against the activities of the ltte rump, as a group Tamils have done nothing to help stop the showing of the Ch-4 video or the spread of lies. The so called “Equality” that is being touted currently as the need of the hour for Tamils will never happen so long as lies are perpetrated abroad about Sri Lanka. Stop the lies first, then Feelings of Trust & Mutual Respect follows, and Equality will automatically happen.
Continue with the lies, and Trust, Respect & Equality will never happen.

What a pity, when the solution is so simple.

  25. Samson Says:

Kyts is DD’s area. That’s why UPFA won.

Delft too. DD’s thugs have a big presence in islets.

There is no change. Check the 1994 election results. It is the same in Kyts and islets.

If every family in NP has a Mahaveer, then all the so called “civilians” were in fact LTTE terrorists (Mahaveers).

  26. andylingam Says:

    Samson
Agreed DD made(safe heven to avoid LTTE killing) kyts (incl all 7 island) as his temparary area but this won’t be no longer exit now (SL Navy is packed up from most of islands excepted Nainadivu & Delft- jop has been completed ).

Veddiyin sinnam ( HS said ) veththilai sinnam ( people said)

Every one who dead in this unwanted own family war are Maveerars ( Sinhalese , Tamils , Muslims & others)

  27. anura seneviratna Says:

“Democracy in Sri Lanka accepts the right for political parties to contest & people to vote for their choice but in reality governance will fall into one of two parties only.”

Within this sentence lies all ills of SL as follows:-

    “Democracy in SL”

While in almost all Sovereign National countries practice Unitary National Democracy i.e. by upholding One Nationhood: within the ploy of artificial SL nation, it elevates non indigenous minorities who already have countries of their national origins elsewhere, through official recognition to “small nations” statuses by grossly violating the National Sovereignty of the Island Country’s Indigenous Hela/Sinhela Nation. When National Democracy is upheld in all sovereign national countries, it is open-ended democracy in SL promoting catastrophic “multi-nationalism” within a single country. When any non indigenous minority settled in a host country away from their land of national origin, is only identified as a race but in topsy-turvy SL these races are granted “small nation” rights directly threatening the only bona fide Hela/Sinhela Nation of Heladiva (SL) in an unprecedented violation of the fundamental human right of the Hela Nation of people.

In every National country, as for the granting of “right for political parties”, it is while upholding the country’s inviolable Sovereign Nationality, whereas in SL, racist parties (alien-national parties) of non indigenous minorities are allowed to constantly threaten the Sovereign Hela Nationality.

“governance will fall into one of two parties only”

Its wishful thinking! When one of two parties generally fall short of required number of seats to form a government, wooing is done by either party to racist parties (alien-national parties) to form a government with promises of granting further alien-national rights to further threats of insidious invasions within Heladiva. In addition, the grave threat to country’s sovereignty is not seen by many due to short-sightedness, if racist parties together amass more seats at a general election due to their purposeful population increase agenda!

“Why would Tamils continue to vote for separatism?”

Although, it is common sense once they are given all the rights as a separate “small nation” (sulu jaathiya), the next right they are bound to expect is a separate country if they are accepted as a small nation or big nation irrespectively. This being the fundamental violation against the Hela/Sinhela Nation deadlocked in the country’s ongoing conflict situation, many authors are unable to detect this most basic flaw along with their inability to grasp the Rights of ONE Nation of ONE country. As long as the so the called SLs continue to think subjectively it will be the greatest giveaway in history as Paul Harris stated a few years ago.

“The propaganda campaign championed by separatist activists both home & abroad have orchestrated the necessity to separate & fight for a Tamil eelaam.”

More than their propaganda, a write-up of this sort with should be taboo words for us are doing far more free propaganda for the enemy through sheer foolhardiness and naivety sans national Hela esteem.

“This is one good reason why there is controversy over the real population statistics of the North & East especially during the period that LTTE prevailed in Sri Lanka. The numbers of civilians amongst LTTE & how far they are “Sri Lankan” remains a big question mark.”

Indeed, the so called most refugees in the humanitarian operation by the security forces too bound to be non –SL.

“the North & East in particular would have wanted to become part of the rest of the island & think of themselves as part of the Sri Lankan family.”

How foolhardy is to write north and east of Heladiva in capitals as if they are separate from this tiny Island of Helas giving further fodder to the enemies for their fraudulent claims. SL family is a non starter when it clearly recognises this non indigenous minority in Heladiva as they originally were in Tamil Nadu (Tamil Country).

“Tamil National Alliance Election Manifesto 2004”…..etc.

This is further free propaganda for the enemies who obviously think how naïve the so called SL writers are by giving endless free publicity in upping the enemy pedigree without realising how servile they appear to the enemies.

“Tamils need to realize that they must now firmly say no to Tamil political parties that aspire to separate from Sri Lanka. It behoves all Tamils to take that first important step for no amount of reconciliation will work until they abandon the thought of creating a separate Tamil homeland.”

It is pathetic to make such a suggestion to them as long as they are officially recognised by the state as a separate entity with perks attached to it. It is up to the citizens of all grades and leaders of this Hela Country to take the initiative to officially correct the gross national errors committed against the Sovereign Hela Nation in their National Motherland and make all minorities INCLUSIVE Hela Nationals. The National Problem of SL is the continuous suppression of the Hela Nation as there are no other nations within one country. To reiterate for the umpteenth time Tamil Nadu is the ONLY official place for the world’s large Tamil entity of over 100 million Tamils.

  28. Marco Says:

    Question to Mr Anura Seneviratna
Does he feel that if it came to a “vote” barring all “non indigenous minorities” the Sri Lankan (Heladiva) populace would even consider bringing his ideal to reality?

  29. jayt Says:

Western propaganda have worked very well on Sinhalese. That’s why some Sinhalese make dumb proposal which help the western tigers supporters completely destroy Sinhalese in a war. although, I do not trust some of the Sinhalese who make comets here as patriots. Some of them are bribe by foreigners to act as patriot and insert their conspiratorial ideas into Sinhalese society. Also, Western tigers supporters aim is to get more access to Sinhalese society by trying to get Sinhalese into intermarriages by frightening Sinhalese with propaganda and by inserting cunning ideas like ” oh if Sinhalese intermarriage may be Tamil will not fight” . Do not forget that last 30 year war plan did not come from India. It came skillful group in Europe. Before starting tigers war in 80s, they planed and infiltrated into Colombo Sinhalese families to arrange intermarriages to seek hide out and carry out suicide bombing successfully and which they did. The idea of attempt to intermarriage several goal. One is to increase Tamil population into other part of Sri lanka for espionage and prepare for next war. the Second is to insult Sinhalese as much as they can. They do enjoy insulting. Third, the Sinhalese pride and identity is the major barrier for them to rule Sri lanka as they want. However, this plan is not only aim at Sri lanka, they do have for many countries. That mean one intermarriage mean adding more or creating more minorities and more spies. Guess who publish an article a week ago on a European paper or website and bragged about ” how Tiger came out of Tamil Sinhalese intermarriage went to Jaffna for Tiger training”.
I accidentally met Canadian teem who went to Europe as tourists but they ended up discovering something that they did not go to look for it. they told me about a European country who are solely behind Tigers military skills and they warn me about this country but until then, I thought it was India who were completely behind this military affairs
And whoever and what ever, we can’t do anything legal until we get the proof of evidence. However, Sri lanka government or people should not be scared of propaganda. and International lawyers will be ready to move Colombo and ready for action if this threat continue against Sri lanka

This extract from the Island Editorial of July 27, 2011. That the ltte is now allowed to openly raise funds in UK speaks for itself. Be aware of all ex-Colonists – they know you and your weaknesses ! :

“Poor man’s smallpox affecting the rich
    July 27, 2011, 7:53 pm

Duplicity of the developed world is the medium in which global terrorism thrives like maggots in muck. Time was when its tolerance of and support for terrorist groups, which plagued the Global South, seemed to pay in that it managed to be free from terrorism. But, today, it is hoist with its own petard as evident from the recent twin terror strikes in Norway.

Emerging evidence that ultra right extremists responsible for the attacks in Norway have links with some groups of their ilk in the UK has jolted the British government into keeping a close tab on those elements. But, the Cameron government, while taking such precautions against possible threats to British interests, has permitted a dangerous outfit, the LTTE, responsible for hundreds of acts of brutal terror, far worse than the London bombings and the attacks in Norway, to raise funds and gain legitimacy by operating a bus service in Britain, as we reported yesterday. It is indeed a very sad day for British democracy! The US is planning to cut aid that it claims to give Sri Lanka while allowing the LTTE to operate freely on its soil. The message other violent groups in different parts of the world have got from these two countries is that terrorism works!” ….

Great idea as make all minorities INCLUSIVE Hela Nationals !
All Srilankan Tamils want to call them as Ceylones Tamil not Srilankan Tamil , Why, but in india does not matter , Gujarati, Malayale or Thamils they all happy to call them Indian or industane !

Only solution for us in Heladiva to find a solution We all sholud call ourself Hela nation !
Hope Our head od state & 2/3 majority come with home made solution !

  32. anura seneviratna Says:

To Marco, this is not an ideal but most justifiable and practical National Sovereignty Concept universally practised. Even without barring non indigenous minorities the populace as a whole will embrace it when awakened to this simple fact of wholesome Nationhood.

  33. Lorenzo Says:

    Anura,

That’s how SL had internal peace in the past. Only threats to peace came from external groups.
