Following the failed attempts to fan the flames of communal violence to create mayhem elsewhere in the country by exploiting the recent incidents in Aluthgama and Beruwala, a certain Opposition politician who is angered by the efficiency of the state and military intelligence that thwarted the bid, is currently plotting to expose the names of several key figures in Army intelligence responsible for this success, Army spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said yesterday. He said the defence authorities received intelligence reports regarding this attempt.
“These intelligence operatives played a significant role preserving the peace. They efficiently prevented any violence from spreading, thwarting various attempts by interested parties to give rise to similar incidents of violence in other parts of the country,” Brigadier Wanigasooriya said.
“Why would this MP want to expose these highly capable intelligence officers who contributed greatly in preventing escalation of violence and stopped it from blowing up into inter-communal violence?,” he asked.
“Exposure of military intelligence figures at a time like this can be extremely dangerous as it can jeopardise the hard-earned peace in the country. One must not forget the threat to Sri Lanka, which as it stands today, is far beyond our borders. The threat to Sri Lanka is certainly not within the country,” he explained.
“We cannot rule out the possibility of external or foreign involvement in incidents of the nature we witnessed. We have to understand the broad nature of the threat that we are faced with as a nation,” Brigadier Wanigasooriya said.
“The outing of the identity of national intelligence figures, whether or not one is planning to do so using his or her Parliamentary privilege does not change the result. It tangibly places the lives of the officers concerned at a grave risk. We all know the infamous Millennium City betrayal that took place in 2002 ,” he pointed out.
“Interestingly, the Opposition MP involved in this case is an MP who was very critical of the Millennium City betrayal of military intelligence units of Sri Lanka.
“He has changed political parties and has now emerged with a plan to go down the same path he had once criticised vehemently,” Brigadier Wanigasooriya said.
“The intelligence operatives actively worked towards establishing links with the religious leaders and prominent citizens belonging to each community and thereby creating a conduit by which they promoted peaceful dialog between the communities,” he said.
“This helped the prevention of exploitation of communal differences by interested parties that lurked to cause communal riots after Beruwala and Aluthgama incidents,” he added.

The army said today it had received information about some politicians who are attempting to destabilize the country’s intelligence units by divulging information using their parliamentary privileges.
We have received credible information that some politicians using their parliamentary privileges are attempting to expose secret details about the country’s intelligence units. This may eventually lead to an unstable situation in the country,” Military Spokesman Ruwan Wanigasooriya told a media conference today.
If this happen it would be the second incident after the Millennium City safe house exposure, where at least 21 intelligence officers had to sacrifice their lives in 2002 because of that betrayal,” he said.

Ranil Wickremesinghe is a born traitor and his cahoots like Mangalaya and Kiriella and the rest were also same.They sell the country for big bucks.They do not care about the country or the people.They care for themselves. How a man who has lost more than twenty times still hang on to the leadeship post in his party? Have you heard anything like that in any other country in the world? These traitors do not have shame. They are like vultures. They prey on anything and sell and live good life behaind the back of poor people who believe in them.
You see Ranil and Mangalaya do they have a personality or do they have a vision to the country? Do they have a public trust after what they did to our country during the war? Have they forgotten how they allowed our heros to be masacured by LTTE murderers. Anyone remember how the LTTE got VIP treatment from UNP while they govern the country? I think Brigadier Wanigasooriya knows exactly what the threat is but because of diplomatic niceties won’t divulge.
I think he wanted to say the threat to Sri Lanka is from
US, UK, NATO, Saudi Arabia are who behind wahabbism, Al Qaida and the Jihadis. You can see their handiwork in places like Libya, Syria and now Iraq with this group called ISIS who if you look carefully at he news reports carry the black flag of Al Qaida and the Jihadis, which is really another name for Al Qaida controlled by US, UK, NATO, Saudi Arabia etc.
People know who the culprits are trying to destabilise countries like Sri Lanka and others like they are trying to do in the middle east by creating sectarian conflict. Their evil games wont work most Sri Lankans are fully aware of their machinations. Sri Lankans walk past the embassies of US, UK, NATO countries and Saudi Arabian diplomatic missions and organisations in Colombo fully aware of what they are upto. The game is up for them they won’t succeed in destabilising Sri Lanka. All Sri Lankans are united against this threat Brigadier Wanigasooriya has correctly alluded to in public.
