SLFP responds to Common Candidate-Courtesy The Nation

‘It’s nothing more than a mega teledrama,’ was how the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) described the move to field its former General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena as the opposition’s ‘Common Candidate’.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development and SLFP Treasurer Dullas Alahapperuma made the above observation at a press briefing held at the SLFP headquarters on Saturday also attended by SLFP heavyweights Nimal Siripala De Silva, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, A.H.M. Fowzie, Susil Premajayantha and W.D.J. Seneviratne.

Alahapperuma said that the title of this ‘teledrama’ could be ‘Her Rage’ (Ege Vairaya), referring to a film by the same name.

‘The producers are thousands of miles away from the Indian Ocean. The Script is by Ranil Wickremesinghe, while former President Chandrika Kumaratunga is the director. The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and pro-LTTE elements of the Tamil Diaspora are no doubt also playing their parts behind the scenes. Maithripala Sirisena is merely the lead actor and Friday’s event was just the first episode. Sirisena also has no idea what his next script will be as these are being handed to him slowly. However, we have no doubt he will soon realize that this drama would not have a happy ending,’ Alahapperuma added.

Speaking further, Alahapperuma said This drama still has no name. However, I would like to propose ‘Her Rage’ (ege vairaya) as a suitable one.”

Alahapperuma said he respected Sirisena’s past, was dismayed by his present and saddened at the future awaiting the party’s former general secretary.

The minister also warned foreign powers not to meddle in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation, claiming there were reports that money was being pumped to finance the setting up of a ‘puppet government’ that would dance to the tune of these powers.

Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, who had been newly appointed as the SLFP’s General Secretary after Sirisena was sacked from his post on Friday night, said he regretted the circumstances that had led him (Yapa) to be chosen to his new post.

He accused Sirisena of coming forward simply to elect Ranil Wickremesinghe as prime minister. He further said Sirisena and his fellow dissidents had no moral right to claim that they were taking their decisions on behalf of the SLFP. It was the president who made the SLFP the most powerful political party in its history and Sirisena’s breakaway group was only serving the interests of the SLFP’s bitter rival, the UNP, Yapa stressed. We will do everything in our power to defeat him at the election,” he added.

Minister and Leader of the House Nimal Siripala De Silva insisted the defections would have no bearing on the SLFP’s voter base. One or two people cannot shake the foundations of the SLFP,” he claimed. He said he did not believe reports that more MPs were waiting to cross over in batches. However, the government was prepared to meet any challenges that may arise, he claimed.

Even if senior party members had issues with the party hierarchy, breaking away was not the way to resolve issues, De Silva said. These issues must be solved internally. We have to look after the party and party cadres without leaving them in isolation,” he said.

Both Ministers De Silva and Seneviratne were questioned by journalists regarding rumors that they too were about to cross over to support Sirisena, to which De Silva replied, Even if Mahinda Rajapaksa himself leaves the SLFP, I won’t go.” Seneviratne said his answer was the same.

  2. Christie Says:

Indian intelligence service the Third Eye is still suck in the forties. Madam thinks she can play her father’s politics. Things have changed a lot locally and internationally since the forties.

  3. SenaD Says:

Lorezo, “MS should DISTANCE himself from this Bandit Queen and Run-nil.”

You are asking for an impossible task. He could do it only after the election and only if he wins, like what happened to the UNP after in a former CMC election.

If he loses they will distance him, so he wont have to do it.

  4. ranjit Says:

Gay boy Ranil is very wise to bring another Ponnaseka to contest the Presidential elections like the previous. He only wanted to be the leader of the Opposition for another six years and enjoy the benefits and to go around the globe. As long as they get green bucks from western agencies they are o.k. they only want to live a luxurious life damn cares about the public. If they have any kind of concern about the people they must give support to this Govt for the development. They are against for everything what this Govt does and do.That is wrong. They should support and help after all the carnage we had for last thirty years of war.

Do not believe their promises. Those are all lies. They want to win by hook or crook to be the puppets of the western bosses. Within four years Mahinda has shown what he can do to the citizens and plenty more to come after he wins this time with a Majority of 25 lacks. You mark my word. He is a man with action not words. So think wisely and vote for this Baiya again not to the Tie Coat gay boy.

RANJIT, I think it was the bandit queen who brought the other ponna. He has used his position to make millions and a die hard crook. He has ruined the Parakrama Samudraya, getting the irrigation officers to lower the water level by two feet to help his brothers white araliya hotel getting inundate. He used his power no doubt. The DIGs were on their knees to help him when his son assaulted a DIGs son with twelve other goons. At his media briefing, he said, when he coms he will give full independence to the police. Hypocrite.

  6. Ananda-USA Says:

Jayawewa … the 2015 BUDGET sailed effortlessly through the Parliament today!

Thank you Vimutti and Independent for clarifying for us what Chandrika meant by her statement “Tomorrow if the budget 2015 is not defeated, do not call her father a Bandaranaike” is really “Tomorrow if the budget 2015 is not defeated, do not call my father a Bandaranaike.”

Therefore, since the budget was NOT DEFEATED, we won’t call her the daghter of a Bandaranaike; so, whose daughter is she? Really, I mean?

Given that many of her DISGRACEFUL actions CONFIRM that she cannot be the true daughter of her alleged REVERED PATRIOTIC parents SWRD and Sirimavo Bandaranaike, has she accidentally revealed something we didn’t know about her parentage?

Ha! Ha! … the election gaffes continue, with more rollicking fun in the offing!

This clearly demonstrates her STUPIDITY; she should never make predictions about things that are so much beyond her control!

Those, like Maithripala Sirisena, who trust her word and ability to deliver and place their necks under the guillotine, are CONGENITAL BOORUWAS as well; lack GOOD JUDGMENT and are UNFIT to man the helm of the nation as President!

    Begone, FOOLS!

MY THREE PAALA, CHANDRIKAGE DIRACHCHA LANUWA KAVA NE ?

  8. ranjit Says:

Susantha the name Bandit Queen is not fit for her because the Bandit Queen is far more better than her as a human being. She took revenge from rich people like Chndrika the witch. Poor people loved her for her courage but this woman what she has done only helped to kill our heroes and allowed terrorists to openly move in our homeland? She is a traitor to our Motherland. She is the puppet of Tamil Diaspora and she gets money to do all the dirty tricks from her Uncles in the western Embassies.Nobody can deny that.No one believes her now because her days in politics in Sri Lanka has long gone.If she contest her Attanagalla even she cannot win because people are fed up of her lies and boasting. Her father maybe Chelvanayagam who knows? Her blood relatives that’s why she is supporting LTTE Diaspora.

R.I.P for Chandrika & Sirisena duel.

  9. Ratanapala Says:

This one eyed cyclops is the great great grand daughter of the indian immigrant Neela Kantha Perumal – a pusari at the Nawagamuwa Devale. They got rich by stealing the Devale and later siding with the British. It is said that they got even richer and higher decorations from the British for supplying “comfort women” for the British plying the Colombo – Kandy – Nuwara Eliya route.

The one eyed cyclops who tried to sell “waters edge” fraudulently is now trying to sell the whole of Sri Lanka to the Tamil Diaspora.

She ‘lived with Wasantha Raja in London during her self imposed exile after death of her traitorous husband – Vijaya Kumaranatunge – The closest Catholic Church managed to get to the Presidency in Sri Lanka. Had he lived the ignorant Sri Lanka would have voted him the President still not knowing his antecedents.
