A Coalition With No Clear Vision And Motivated By  The Greed For Power Is No Replacement For President Rajapaksa and the UPFA.

Lankaweb Weekly Editorial

December 13th. 2014

It seems somewhat of an aberration of the norm of good governance that the present President has provided  the Nation that those who are attempting to replace him have no clear vision that could supecede or circumvent what has already been set in place by him and are being driven by what is  quite plainly visible as the greed for power where ordinary sins of any aspiring Administration have been blown out of proportion to enhance their election platform!.

One where the UNP with no real means to accomplish this cannot even field a candidate of their own and has chosen a pawn who has jumped ship from the President’s camp together with the rest of the opportunistic ship jumpers with high faluting rhetoric and unsubstantiable promises to help them reach their goal which will surely fall short as already the cracks in the ungainly alliance is beginning to show.

The President in the meantime  with a little help from the somewhat lopsided bunglings of his opponents seeking power and their real intent becoming more and more transparent, is making great progress and appears to be in the driving seat once again for a clear win which could at the end of it all be another tumultuous one as the common man is becoming very much aware of the covert and at times underhand means being used to attempt bringing the President to disrepute, which are more than likely to work towards his favour.

There is nothing the Coalition led by Maithripala Siriseena has to offer the Nation that has not already been set in place by the present regime and the voters simply will not be fooled by the cheap rhetoric and mudslinging going on where they are more than likely to remember the harm that was done to the Nation during the administrations of the likes of Mm. Chandrika Kumaratunga and Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe bearing in mind how the other aspiring power hungry entity, none other than Maj Gen. Sarath Fonseka remembering the huge tumble he took  when he attempted to head down this road. It surely will be People Power against the coalition of meaningless repertoire!

Simply put the dirty game of politics in Sri Lanka appears to have become a lot dirtier with the language and modus operandi of the Sirisena led coalition which does not have the wherewithal to transform Sri Lanka into what she already has been transformed into as the “Miracle of Asia” in the eyes and minds of those who marvel at the transformation thanks solely  to the efforts of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his team of legislators whose policies for the betterment of Sri Lanka are not only rock solid towards posterity but also one which has assent from many world leaders bearing in mind the recent acollades from the likes of former Malayian presidential great Mahabir Mahathir, Indian Leader Narendra Modi, the Chinese, Russian and Japanese leaderships, and many others of significant reputation in a long list of admirers from around the world who have praised the President’s accomplishments on an ongoing basis and openly acclaimed  him as a man of courage  an astute leader and the only one of the day who vanquished the greatest threat to his Nation the Tamil Tiger terrorists and here we have  their supportives  the coalition which  appears to be more than ready to lend a means  towards a resurgence whether inadvertently or not in the manner they choose to oppose the President.

The positives that the President has instilled into the well being of Sri Lanka stand apart from the enemies of the nation such as the Tamil Tiger supportive Diaspora, the TNA and the rest of the motley crew with an eye on the pie of power some often disguised as benefactors ironically and for all the wrong reasons where little needs to be said for the hounds and hyenas of the coalition out to oust him and the words being bandied at times hardly worth paying attention to!

An appropriate recent quote by Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne needs to be emphasized relative to all this which very profoundly suggests that “The people will not fall prey to the contradictory statements made by the so-called common candidate and his colleagues, The United National Party (UNP), which is considered to be the country’s main opposition party has suffered 29 consecutive election defeats to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) since 1994.

Therefore, the UNP which has not been able to present its own candidate for the upcoming Presidential election is bound to face another humiliating defeat. That is why they were desperately searching for a common candidate and finally found one from the SLFP.

“During the last Presidential Election they snared Sarath Fonseka and now the UNP has snared Maithripala Sirisena as the scapegoat for their defeat as they have no courage to fight an election on their own,” he explained.

“They are paying the price as a result of their actions when they were in power, they are now finding it difficult to even find a proper candidate for an election. This clearly proves the pathetic situation faced by the UNP today. The so-called common candidate and his colleagues do not have a proper policy. They issue contradictory statements from time to time. Maithripala Sirisena previously said he will do away with the Executive Presidency within 100 days from coming to power and now he says that he is going to limit the powers of the Executive Presidency. The UNP is asking for the Executive Prime Minister post within 24 hours after the Presidential Election. The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) is not likely to support Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister. This is the precarious situation that the confronts the common opposition. They have no clear vision about the future of our motherland. They only want to come to power at any cost by defeating President Mahinda Rajapaksa and taking him before the International Court of Justice. But, Sri Lankans are not fools as they will not be fooled by the UNP’s gimmicks and will always support the progressive vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Therfore, no one can defeat President Rajapaksa or his vision at the forthcoming Presidential Election” end quote which are words of wisdom which will stand in good stead for the Nation and its voters come election day.

This gentleman Sirisena is another Indian puppet like SWRD and Sarath. India got Malinda but he did not follow the directions given by India.

SIRISENA SELLS HIS CAR, IMPORTED ON A GOVERNMENT PERMIT, FO 14.5MILLION, This is Mr. Clean. Now he is on a hunting trip, all out for a kill, but his Arrow point is blunt, and his Bow has no tension. Malnourished, Ranil the Sly Fox is salivating for his Prime portion, and so is the Hyena Chandrika also waiting for the same Prime portion. There is going to be a volatile encounter for the same Prime portion. At the end Sirisena the Clean could not make his kill as his point was blunt, and his Bow was sagging. No kill, No Prime portion. Ranil goes into hibernation, Chandrika flies to Chelsea.

AIYO SIRISENA !! Nonay, Lamay, balagana innava Buth Parsal genakan.

Asked whether the President planned to make his asset declarations public, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Minister of Petroleum Industries, and newly appointed General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), said: “There is no need to go that far. The requirement is to declare the candidate’s assets. However, if there is a request the declaration will be made available.”

Meanwhile, Maithripala Sirisena the common opposition candidate has not only declared assets but has made them openly available to the public through his party office.

Make up your own mind folks!!”

Take the following report also into account before you make up your mind!

    December 14th Sunday Island report:

“Although presidential challenger Maithripala Sirisena filed his assets declaration with the Elections Commissioner last week and said it was open for public scrutiny, efforts by the Sunday Island yesterday to obtain a copy proved futile.

In a public statement the candidate said, “copies of my asset declaration are available at my campaign office which is open to all members of the public, if they wish to peruse it,” shortly after handing over his nomination papers.

However our efforts to obtain the document from Sirisena’s Thimbirigasyaya office ended in failure. This reporter was first referred by the office to a Mr. Karunaratne Paranavitane wo said an “official request” must be made. We agreed to do that and was then told that the matter had to be referred to Mr. Wijedasa Rajapaksha as there was a question of law involved.
However it was not possible to contact Mr. Rajapaksha from the campaign office. We were told he was busy and would return our call in about one hour.

But there was no return call and attempts to contact either Rajapaksha or his son, Rakhita who we were told handled media matters were unsuccessful.”

  11. Vimutti Says:

Thanks for that additional info, SenaD, as it puts in context what is really going on.

The UNP questions the president’s resources because the UNP and the Common Candidate are the ones that have a REAL legal problem concerning the receipt of foreign “REGIME CHANGE” money and are trying to deflect attention away from their own problem by pre-emptively raising financing questions concerning Rajapaksa.

DON”T FALL FOR THE BAIT! Investigate UNP and Maithripala finances with HEIGHTENED scrutiny and I am sure the foreign connection will become apparent. Receipt of foreign funds is the ONLY way Maithripala has any chance of competing with the president.

  13. OaO Asithri Says:

LankaWeb Editor, indeed, Kudos and well said!

Sire, I commend you for serving this website to us patriots as a source of nectar to quench thirst for patriotic exchanges, even since the dark days of LTTE’s murderous gains in SL when all seemed hopeless for the existence of our beloved 2500 year young motherland, and the bifurcation of her along racist-separatist lines seemed not only inevitable (due to bungling by the leaders who have now architected this yet another “common candidate” campaign against Sri Lanka’s national interests) but many an anti-SL pundit from abroad was gleefully underwriting as faith accompli.

Anyway, a quick note Lorenzo, our once patriot (yes he seemed so for a veritable quantity of time that I can remember):

Lorenzo, I hate to say this to you, but it is time for me to call a spade a spade in the traditional OaOA style and call this charade off.

I have been following your comments and I find them on the whole hypocritical at best and insidious and subversive at worst. I am truly baffled by this ‘change of color’ in you. Today, for all intents and purposes, you are in the same camp that has promoted, and will undoubtedly promote in the future too, the vile LTTE terra-maggots’ agenda!

I wonder what got into you…if you have you also been somehow brainwashed (either through lavish ‘kind’ or severe threat) to toe the agenda of the anti-SL “regime change” forces, i.e. the camp that panders to the same goals of the LTTE diaspora? If severe threat is the case, then I think you need to seek immediate help (try PRC or Russian Federation embassy for starters I would say. LOL!)

But, seriously, your going-off-the-point replies to question/viewpoints that are posed to you, your crass attempts to camouflage critical issue by bringing in sheer slander, gossip, and irrelevant to marginally-relevant info (no, I would not call them even “facts”), is really telling now and surely you must understand that some of us are not exactly wet-behind-the-ears and can see through it all – sadly to our sheer horror!

Now please don’t give me KP, Karuna, Pillayan, etc. who have joined the MR GOSL as your defensive counterpoint as I am truly, and infuriatingly I must confess, sick of it. You are hypocrite to do so and I think you know it. Karun and Pillayan jumped to the GOSL side at a crucial time of our war against the LTTE terrra-maggots and the service they rendered to SLA, especially to the deep penetration SF LRRP operations, is well known and you know that very well (as we used to discuss those in your own DA website, in full agreement and praise then). And, KP, since he was captured and brought to SL, while he is not a GOSL official, has repented more than enough by giving all the “inside dope” vis-à-vis LTTE’s foreign funding, bankrolling, business infrastructures, etc. etc. that has tremendously helped the TID in Colombo to map out many an effective counter LTTE-reemergence strategy I am told. Therefore, to harp on these individual’s, while you whitewash the heinous crimes Ranil and Chandrika did whereby the LTTE went from strength to strength during their hay days, that smacks of outright hypocrisy not to mention dangerous insidiousness on your part I must flatly state.

Indeed, what a sad turn of events…although, evidently, I don’t see how, I hope you will find lasting solace in this anti-SL camp that you have taken refuge in – sadly, to the horror of SL patriots.

  14. Marco Says:

What took pseudo patriots so long to figure it out.

So, if i’m right from the comment above by oaoasthri any one who votes for Maithri is not a patriot.

Lets wait and see how many “non-patriots” we count on the 8th Jan.

    Agree.

However, what choice do we have?

Do we at least try to stick with the entity that despite corruption, nepotism, thuggery, etc (that you say is common to all parties/governments) at least liberated our motherland from horrific terrorist bombings and mass-scale slaughters and continue show robustness in never to let LTTE monsters ever rear their head again in Sri Lanka

    OR

Do we now revert to the entity that also had corruption, nepotism, thuggery, etc. but also not only bungled our war against terrorism on grand scale, but did hand over our national security pro-LTTE individuals from Norway and NOW still shows every indication that they have not changed their attitude/mindset?

May be some have forgotten those dark days of utter mayhem in Sri Lanka but not me. Unlike then, now I don’t instances where a father and mother would take separate buses when going on a journey as they would never know when they were going to get blown to smithereens by a LTTE planted claymore and leave their children destitute without any parent!

It is truly appalling to see how short some Sri Lankan’s memory is!

  16. Lorenzo Says:

    OAOA,

NO. I have NOT changed. The conduct of SL rulers has changed since 2009.

Here are my frustrations. I will be happy if they are published. Why am I frustrated due to these? Because I’m a TOP PATRIOT.

    1. As you know I was HAMMERING the need to COLONIZE the north with Sinhalese to BUST TE MFs even before the war ended.

But what happened? The few Sinhalese who went to Jaffna station hoping for resettlement were chased away!

    2. Tamil IDPs of 20 months were resettled with houses with electricity. Sinhala IDPs of 37 years are NOT resettled STILL! Muslim IDPs of 24 years not resettled still.

    3. TNA runs the NPC like kings. Did we sacrifice 27,000 lives for this?

    4. Army camps in the north DRASTICALLY REDUCED.

    5. It is very sad to hear that you get sick to hear the TRUTH. But isn’t it the truth?

I will write a lot more later.

e.g. I save a helpless woman from a terrorist who’s harassing her. Does that give me the right to do whatever I want to her? NO!

  17. OaO Asithri Says:

Marco, now now, let’s not get your knickers twisted around your ankle this early shall we?

“any one who votes for Maithri is not a patriot”

Far from it! My3 is not the issue!

The anti-SL, pro-LTTE gang that is waiting to grab power after putting forward My3 like a puppet, and that gang is the issue!

Many will vote for My3 thinking that’s just what they are doing as the cabal operating behind the scene (and that includes TNA/GTF; My3 has already gotten into some sort of agreement with it, but to avoid any backlash from patriotic masses, it is going to be kept hidden for likely until voting is finished; I sincerely hope some SL citizen will file a petition in SC asking for the full declaration prior to the polls).

As for “pseudo patriots” I agree there are many who come here and pretend to be patriots, but they work for the same “regime change” agenda as the LTTE diaspora.

  18. OaO Asithri Says:

    Lorenzo,

So what makes you think this new cabal consisting of Ranil as executive PM and Chandrika as the virtual executive President (behind the scene), will do anything to correct/reverse all what you noted as problems/issues with the existing MR GOSL? If you believe so, then I am afraid you are seriously illusioned and chasing a mirage. On the contrary, you can bet all what you noted as problems/issues will be 100 times more compounded and worse if those two proven anti-SL former honchos take power (which is what they will do if My3 wins).

No, I don’t need to hear any more of litany of issues/problems with the current MR GOSL regime…believe me, I know it all and in fact have been personally impacted by some of the loathsome effects.

However, the question we should be asking is – DO WE HAVE ANOTHER CHOICE THAT WILL NOT UNDO WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED POST-LTTE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, ASSURE THAT LTTE DOES NOT REAR ITS MONSTROUS HEAD AGAIN?

  19. Independent Says:

    Hot News !
Now the president is promising Yahapalanaya !
He want’s a mandate to create a “moral” society.

With all the executive powers and the courts on his side, he should start it now by sacking Mervyn Silva and hanging Duminda Silva. Why does he need a mandate Now ?
Can any learned friend explain this ?

  20. SenaD Says:

These are indeed disheartening turn of events: I am sure most Sri Lankans who are worried about the integrity of the state are with you in that.

Problem is by electing MS none of the above will be addressed, not even remotely.

With backers like CBK and RW it is extremely likely that they will be in the driving seat if he were to win. Is their any chance for unifying the country with the Tamil leadership in the hands of ITAK with their current policies and CBK and RW having any say in how the country must be run?

MS himself said that when he wins he will give the executive powers to RW (it is in his inaugural meeting video, not someone’s report).

It may be that he was hoping to be a ceremonial president in a new set up where RW is the prime minister with executive powers. Leaving out the complexity involved in the process, it is detestable even to think about.

If MS says he is going to stay as the executive president rectifying ‘all the wrongs that have been done by the incumbent ‘ it makes sense; in fact having the powers of an executive president would make it easier for him.

How could it be right to give executive powers to someone who had been rejected by the people so many times and involve another ‘had been’ who invited the Norwegians to mediate and presided over the period allowing the LTTE to become a formidable force?

Can any good come out of that?

  21. Lorenzo Says:

    OAOA and SenaD,

So you ACCEPT these are GRAVE SHORTCOMINGS of the MR GOSL. Good. ALL patriots do.

    “DO WE HAVE ANOTHER CHOICE”

    Yes. My3!

    How can My3 resolve these?

    1. My3 is from an area where MOST SINHALA CIVILIANS and soldiers were killed by the LTTE. He KNOWS first hand what it is like.

He wants PERMANANT solutions to this TE nonsense. Once the parliament is empowered it can be done.

e.g. DSS didn’t have executive powers but he did it. Why? Because the executive president relies on Tamilians to vote for him. IF the executive president is answerable to parliament, then people’s wishes MUST be entertained. That is why MOST democracies DON’T HAVE executive presidents!

    2. My3 has Run-nil a top traitor. But look at the MR camp. This is why MR could NOT do all the things I stated. Look at the time when NONE of them were with MR – FANTASTIC!

    3. We must still call a spade a spade. Run-nil REFUSED to sign the ROME STATUTE. Had he signed it, all our war heroes would be in Hague. ALL his CFA crowd are NOT with him now.

    4. Between the 2, My3 is the better Buddhist. Frankly, even non-Buddhists feel VERY SAFE among Buddhists.

    5. War was won by the collective effort of all. It was My3 who PAINSTAKINGLY CONVINCED the JVP and Lakshaman Kadirgamar in 2004 to ACCEPT MR as the PM instead of him (My3).

    6. When the parliament is empowered it can FREELY SCRAP 13 amendment – the gravest danger to SL. Until then, 13 will stay.

    7. Regular govt. change is part of political stability. Look at MOST stable countries. In those countries govt.s CHANGE every so often. Look at the countries where NO govt. change happen regularly. They end up either like North Korea or Iraq. Replacing MR by My3 does not bring instability. IF My3 wins, all UPFA MPs will back him.

    8. My3 has already said GR may continue to serve as defence secretary. Its not about politics. Its all about the NATION.

  22. Lorenzo Says:

    Independent,

“Now the president is promising Yahapalanaya !”

    AND constitution changes.

Very good. So he ACCEPTS My3’s position as correct.

IF MR does it NOW and address my 5 concerns above NOW, I will no longer support My3. Why should I !!!

In that case MR is as good as gold. But NO promises. ACTION is what is needed.

  23. Nalliah Thayabharan Says:

Political corruption poses a fundamental threat to national security and way of life. It impacts everything from verdicts handed down in courts…to the quality of our roads, schools, and other government services. Single source contracts, unaccountable and overpaid agents, obscure government budgets, unfair appointments and promotions, and many more forms of corruption waste taxpayer funds. Citizens also perceive police corruption and police as some of the principal corruption problems. Bribe-taking and corrupt avoidance of investigations are all commonplace. Such police corruption has been hard for civil society to tackle.Arguably, corruption is one deadly scourge that adds a complex layer in the matrix of growing security challenges facing most developing countries.

Corruption is pervasive, diverse and present in almost all areas of society. From the “greed is good” heyday of the 1980s that encompassed the rise and fall of corporate high-flyers such as Christopher Skase, right through to the 2000s and the spectacular collapses of Enron and WorldCom in the US and HIH in Australia, the News of the World phone-hacking scandal, corruption seems to continue unabated.

The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks Canada among the top tenth least corrupt countries in the world. However, in recent years, corruption is increasingly a major problem in government, industry and non-governmental organizations. For instance, in 2013, 117 of the 250 companies blacklisted by World Bank “from bidding on its global projects under its fraud and corruption policy” are from Canada. Canada ranks at the bottom of the bribery-fighting rankings, “with little or no enforcement of anti-bribery measures”. The 2014 Ernst & Young global fraud survey found that “20% cent of Canadian executives believe bribery and corruption are widespread in this country”. A large proprotion of the Canadian public also “see their politicians and their institutions as fundamentally corrupt”.

In the previous parliament, 120 of India’s 523 parliament members were accused of crimes. Many of the biggest scandals since 2010 have involved very high level government officials, including Cabinet Ministers and Chief Ministers, such as in the 2G spectrum scam (Rs 17.6 Trillion), the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam (Rs 7 Trillion), the Adarsh Housing Society scam, the Coal Mining Scam (Rs 18.6 Trillion), the Mining Scandal in Karnataka and the Cash for Vote scam.

  24. Independent Says:

    Lorenzo,
Based on my experience there is ZERO reason to trust him.
Yahapalanaya is not My3’s concept. It’s Sinhala version belongs to JHU and English version to UNP ( and universal).

My3 and he are very similar. If trust is given in a scale of 1 to 10. I give 4 for My3 and 9 to JHU. But instead of 4 brothers we have 10 brothers !
But all depends on ” the person” in the future, unless EP is reduced in power. So I trust my3+JHU. All these mudslinging on websites are useless to us who have 1st hand knowledge.

There was one muddy story in this very website and I proved how it is a TOTAL LIE. Instead of accusing another minister who was in charge that time , they accuse My3. But there is some message given in that story , it is about Yahapalanaya.
I will give a true story which is connected to people concerned. All the characters are known to me except E.

Minister is the current minister ( not the president)
    A secretary
    B additional secretary
C batch mate of B ( big time UNPiers throughout sympathy to LTTE)
D batch mate of B and C spouse of C ( big time UNPiers same as above)
E brother of D , a doctor treating the president ( big time UNPier)

When the head of the Department position was vacant , the position should go to C by merit although B and C joined on the same day (exactly same seniority). Secretary, however, breaking 100 years of tradition, was about to give it to B. E called the president(P) for help. P called A and asked to change. A said OK but did not do it. E called P again and this time P did it through the Minister.

This is an instant which the president did the right thing to provide justice to UNPiers. This is not Yahapalanaya at all levels.

But the Minister+A+P are not doing right thing on major issues, for the country, on daily basis.

However, this time NOW OR NEVER . We will loose our country by loving this president. We must that “loving kindness to him” not Love.

Great dangers to come. President simply cannot accept the defeat this time. He will even get the Tamil votes buy selling ALL what our heroes won for the country.

  25. Nimal Says:

    N T
Living in Canada one will find corruption at the very top,but hardly affects the people at the bottom, your company you work may agree, giving everyone a chance to make a decent living and that’s the reason why we are living in these countries. In these western countries the press is given the freedom to point out the defects in the system and expose the corruption, if proved will face the full force of the law. In US the chairman of ENRON was not spared, was jailed for along time. This could not happen in SL,ether the news men will be attacked or web sites blocked.
I think all our politicians get to politics to make money and restrict people with regulations, loops and hurdles while they do what they want with no restrictions whatsoever. They create a monopoly. Recently they banned foreigners buying land while the same politicians go and invest on properties in other countries. They seems to strangle and control the people using religion as an excuse. They were very quick to impose a restriction on buildings close to the sea after the tsunami while they could restrict the people while they build wherever they want with impunity. This goes for mudslides and heights above some religious structures.
We need a whole lot of people in tens of thousands to educate and direct the people on the correct parth, perhaps from abroad or from the expatriate community that have seen the good practices the western world that make the expatriates went there to live and enjoy life. Sadly some expatriates while living in the comfort of the western world talk and write crap that has no relevance to well being of the suffering people back home. This is sad and disgraceful.
