Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had agreed not to re-appoint Arjuna Mahendran as the Governor of the Central Bank until the investigation launched by the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) against him concluded.

The Convener of Puravasi Balaya, Saman Ratnapriya said the decision was made during the meeting held yesterday between the Prime Minister and the Puravasi Balaya movement at Temple Trees.

Mr. Ratnapriya said that following a two-hour long discussion, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe had agreed with their proposal not to re-appoint Mahendran as CB Governor pending the conclusion of investigations.

I assume it is incorrect here to say agreed not to reappoint but not to reappoint only until a committee report is available ;there is the catch, definitely he would manoeuvre the report is in Mahendran’s favour, so hoodwink again the country.

  2. Ratanapala Says:

Intelligent people should see through this tomfoolery. This is another hoodwinking to delay and make forget tactics of Ponna Ranil. Ratnapriya is hand in glove with Ranil. People must see through this dollar funded traitor who wants our Ranaviruwoes indicted over war crimes. He got a nice reply from Dr Dayan Jayatilleke the other day. Appointing committee are a text book tactic of doing nothing and make people forget. All administrations have resorted to this tactic one time or the other.

It is over one year since the Central Bank Bond Scandal and the COPE Committee is sitting on it. It is yet to show results. Sunil Handunetti the Ratu Alipatiya is only a cat’s paw to Ponna Ranil.

There is already a report produced by COPE under Dew Gunesekara, on the first Bond auction, which was tabled in the parliament but not debated, as Sirisena hurriedly dissolved the parliament and blocked the debate. Why?
Since the elections, there had been a second irregular Bond Auction, also, causing a massive loss to the Central Bank and the country and this needs to be investigated. When will it happen?
If the Prime Minister is serious, he could now debate Dew Gunesekara’s COPE report on the first Bond auction. Instead of that, he has resorted to his classic way of dodging action against alleged corruption and crimes by appointing a new COPE chairman (we can guess the type of person), to investigate what has already been investigated.
Going by past experience, this Prime Minister will get the report he wants, just like how he exonerated Ravi from the long standing allegation of receiving and misusing 3 to 5 million US dollars received from Raj Rajaratnam, a friend of Arjun Mahendran, now in a US jail for fraudulent activities.

  4. Fran Diaz Says:

The statement ‘not to RE-APPOINT until Investigations are CONCLUDED’ is ambiguous, it seems.

Arjun Mahendran has been already APPOINTED as Governor of the Central Bank.
The CONCLUSIONS of the Investigations may take a long time !

Till then, Arjun M. REMAINS as Governor of the Central Bank !

What the Exec PM should have said was that he agrees to the IMMEDIATE withdrawal of Arjun Mahendran as the Gov of the Central Bank, as the first Commission of Inquiry found him guilty.

This is yet another act by Yahap folk of pulling wool over Peoples’ eyes !

All this begs the Question WHY Arjun M. is so important to Exec PM Ranil.
What is going to be done with the fraud money ?

The Upcountry TEA areas are very vulnerable what with the 5,000 acre lots on 99 yr leases to foreigners. Yahap is far ahead in fraudulent thinking here.

Watch it Lanka ! Double Fraud here.
