12th Century Royal decree prohibiting killing King Kirthi Nissanka Malla of Polonnaruwa

Ordering by the beat of the drum that no animals should be killed within a radius of seven gaus from the city, he gave security to animals. He also gave security to the fish in the twelve great tanks, and bestowing on (the region’s people) gold and cloth and whatever other kind of wealth they wished; he commanded them not to catch birds and so gave security to birds….”

This inscription, which is engraved in an upright stone slab at Ruwanweliseya, Anuradhapura, is a transcript of a decree issued in the late12th Century by King Kirthi Nissanka Malla of Polonnaruwa. It is reflective of the high moral concern that the rulers and people of Sri Lanka showed towards animal life in ancient times.

As the Mahavamsa says those days the Kings were one with the religion and the people. They never tormented the subjects by imposing unbearable taxes and going by the Dharmasokian principles of statecraft (save purisa mama paja) they considered the subjects as their own children

King Sirisangabo said Iman saraththan pisitam sareeram dharemi lokassa hitatta meva” This body of mine with blood and flesh, I bear, for the benefit of people.

Remember those days the Kings were not elected by the people, unlike today as such in fact they were not under obligation to treat the subjects like that. They were only bound by custom, tradition and religion.

Look at the way how shabbily our politicians who rise to power on our shoulders treat us even after coming to power through our vote.

See the difference since then and now?

A little thought to ponder.

With the invasion of Europeans all those values were destroyed.

Whatever left will be totally destroyed by these Yama Paluwos.

Total target which could not be achieved by the European invaders shall be achieved by these Regime Change agents of the West.

Similarly, whatever target which could not be achieved by LieTTE Terrorists with their guns shall be achieved by their agents in white cloths with the blessing of these Regime Change agents of the West.

Can anyone put a $$ value for these damages??

I doubt. These acts of Yamapaluwo’s are bringing untold and unlimited benefits to the West. That is the secret of all these tireless games of the perpetrators.

We can not humanly beat them. Only a Devine intervention by the Deities who protect Mother Lanka should intervene.

Also the name of this Island should be changed back to “Lanka” from Sri Lanka. I think the name “Sri”+”Lanka” is bringing more bad luck than prosperity and stability.

Lord Buddha visited and graced the Island of Lanka, not the island of Sri lanka.

This name nay not be auspicious to such a great country.

“no animals should be killed within a radius of seven gaus from the city”.

    Not in the whole country.

Our kings were not puppets of any country from the India sub continent, and there were no Indian Colonial Parasites in our country.

Most of our leaders like Bandas, JRJ and current mob are Indian puppets.

Sinhala or any other past kings did nothing for the people until the colonial types came. Now we are going back to pre colonial era where divide and rule is the order of the day.
See how honourable the British politicians are.
Just now the Home secretary resigned just for a slip of her tong by making a wrong statement. Will this ever happen our third world country where people are suffering as thieves are constantly getting to power?
Can’t get rid of failed politicians like MR and RW,truly shameful.
Just now that other bandit queen of Arica one Joyce Banda had come from exile to seek another term, rob that country, Malawi even more.
We want the colonials to come back clean it up like what they did in 1818 and 1848 those were days of our history where forward march to freedom and democracy would have been reversed.
These days of Wesak is a great monument to the Colonials, for all the people in the island, just as the Peraharas.
I remember they encouraged the bus magnate like B.J.Fernando to put a big pandol in the place now known as ThoranaHandiya.I remember how they the police supervised the free food given at Mirihana Police station at station road and the big dandsala that was yearly celebrated Gansaba junction near Nuggegoda and so many good things they did for the humble people.
We are in denial, worshiping rouges to come back to reverse the good that was left by the colonials. Today there’s chaos in the country and the politicians have no concern for the people and people’s concerns doesn’t matter just as the pre colonial times.
