Navi Pillai should come to Sri Lanka with an open mind unencumbered with prejudices.

If Navi Pillai is on a fact finding mission to Sri Lanka, she should set aside her prejudices and come with an open mind.  Then and then only will she see for herself  how Sri Lanka exists  as a country with three Communities making up her population.

But if she is coming to see to what extent she could justify her prejudices against the Government of Sri Lanka and the Sinhala people of  the majority Community, then it is better she stays back and learns about Sri Lanka from its enemies-the Tamil Diaspora, American  Sate Department, the NGOs, Amnesty International, and other anti Sri Lankan human rights  activists.  Because with her mind full of such prejudices the facts of reality of Sri Lanka will not sink into her mind.

The Government of Sri Lanka has invited her to see for herself to what extent the Government of Sri Lanka has provided facilities to improve the condition of living of the  Tamil people in the North and East after the elimination of terrorism.  She will be able to see that  the facilities provided to North and East  are far more than those that have been provided to the South.

She will also be able to  evaluate for herself  whether in the infrastructure development, and the provision of  facilities of health, education, water and other  public services, there is discrimination against the Tamils of the North and East in relation to the people in the South.

But all this will be possible if Navi Pillai is wise and intelligent  to see through those many anti-government forces who will infiltrate into her presence to murmur into her ears calumnious misinformation that will distort her vision of reality.

For instance the Tamil National Alliance in the  mere fact of they being  members of a political party of high Caste Tamils are depending on the low caste Tamil majority in Jaffna who with their mental acceptance of the Tamils of high caste as their superiors by divine right of Hindu Caste System,  may vote for them to represent them in the Provincial Council.

In that mental assurance, though up to now the TNA MPs have not contributed in anyway or planned any future projects for the development of  the North,  they have been travelling to different countries of the world where there are pro-terrorist Tamil diaspora organisations, seeking their help to form in Sri Lanka a Tamil Eelam State.

The TNA other than its ambition to set up a separate Eelam State has  no practical plan to contribute to the development of Sri Lanka as a United Nation of Sri Lankans, leaving aside the ethnic differences of the Communities in Sri Lanka.

The TNA speaks of LLRC only to show that  the Government of Sri Lanka is not for reconciliation, not withstanding that all  proposals the TNA is coming forward with are separatist to keep the Tamil Community  away from the Sinhala Community, which is  opposed to reconciliation TNA complains the Government is not complying with.

If Navi Pillai would listen to the TNA delegation which is scheduled to meet her, intelligently with an open mind, without being swayed  one way or the other as it is expected of her, she will perceive  their  separatist Agenda for the Tamils of the North of Sri Lanka.

The TNA “ƒ”¹…”s primary  demand is the demilitarisation of the North, and the release of the members of the Tamil Terrorist group now under detention.

What is the motive behind this demand ?

The North without the presence of the military, and the release of the former members of the Tamil Terrorist  group would create an ideal situation to  organisation a militant Tamil group who will awaken the terrorist “sleepers”, who are awaiting the proper time to awaken to recommence terrorism if necessary to separate the North for a Tamil Eelam State.

They will demand  the Military to be confined to the barracks during the NPC polls, and reduce the number of forces present in the North.

What is behind this demand ?

With the Armed Forces Confined to Barracks and the  numbers reduced, the TNA could create a situation where the Tamil  people of the North could be made to vote for the candidates of TNA under duress.

The people could be moved in groups under the control of militant Tamils perhaps recruited from amoung those sympathetic to terrorism, to create a fear psychosis amoung the Tamil people which will deny them  voting  for the Candidates of their choice, but to the Candidates suggested by the Militants of the TNA.

The people in such an eventuality may not have any one to turn, with the military confined to the barracks, not able to rush to different place where trouble are being reported due to  the lack of enough soldiers as the number of Armed Forces are reduced.

It was in the North that terrorism became possible, because there were Tamils with the mentality of those in the TNA.  There is only a military solution to terrorism.

If there is ever a possibility for  terrorism to arise, it will  again  be in the North, as the Tamil political leaders such as those in the TNA would only encourage such an evolution rather than  curb it. It is therefore for that reason a strong  all time Military presence is essential in the North and East than any where else in Sri Lanka.

The other issues the TNA delegation will demand Navi Pillai to take up would be the plight of the Tamil political prisoners, war crimes, and disappearances.  These are matters that are controversial and without proof, which  every one against the Sri Lanka Armed Forces for the elimination of terrorism continues to question in different forums.

But Navaneetham Pillai should not waste her time in Sri Lanka  going through  what she had already familiarised herself in the Geneva Human Rights Council Sessions.

Navi Pillay if she is smart would see in this demonstration of the TNA Delegation to portray  the Government of Sri Lanka as discriminating against the Tamils in the North, is that TNA is meeting her not to discuss its  proposals for the development of the North for the benefit of the Tamil people and how they propose to effect the reconciliation of the Communities.  But the TNA Delegation is meeting her  to indirectly demand her support as a “Tamil” for her  to propose the presence of a Foreign Mission  to facilitate their plan to separate North from the rest of the country, and turn it into a separate Tamil Eelam State.

It is important that Navi Pillai should not restrict her visit to Jaffna.  She should visit the Southern parts of Sri Lanka and meet the Tamil people living there, and see the Tamil business establishments.  She should also meet the Tamil public servants and the Tamil employees  in the private Sector working in the South. She should see how families of different communities live side by side in Colombo and other Towns.  She should visit a few Sinhala families as well those among the rich and the poor.

This is important as Navi Pillai is aware how the black people including Indians in South Africa  were separated from the whites and put into  ghettos.  In  America  and in European countries people are still housed in  separate areas mostly away from the whites.

In Sri Lanka  there are no such ghettos where the Tamils are housed separated from the Sinhala and Sinhala have special residential areas.  In Sri Lanka all communities live together in the towns except that in the country side there are  Muslim villages, Tamil villages and Sinhala villages close to each other without any sense of segregation.

These are the matters that should concern Navi Pillai to  understand  how things are different in the south , where members of different Communities exist as friendly neighbours  along side each other.

Because  as she is intelligent she may question why the same mixture of Communities should not be there in the North.  Such mixture of Communities will  enhance the understanding , friendly inter-communication, and reconciliation to form a union of communities instead of the  absurdity of separation.

That is the only way to reconcile the Communities and seal the formation of a nation of people with the common purpose of developing Sri Lanka the motherland of every one of them without differentiating one community from the other for reasons of ethnicity, religion or language.

Navi Pillai should be made to understand that necessity and for that greater purpose to leave aside those allegations the TNA is highlighting, such as the plight of the Tamil political prisoners, war crimes, and disappearances, in order  to keep the Communities separated and help the formation of a separate Eelam State for the Tamils.

What is of greater necessity for the welfare of the Tamil people ? Is it Separation  from the  other Communities or uniting with the other Communities to form one with them all ?

If Navi Pilla who is herself a Tamil is for the welfare of the Tamil people  of Sri Lanka she should not give in to TNA, but agree to the  second option of the Tamil Community uniting with the other communities of Sri Lanka to form a one Nation of Sri Lankans.

    She is a Tamil racist.

How can we expect SENSE and an OPEN MIND from her?

We can kiss the hand we wish to cut but that doesn’t make things any better.

  2. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

I would be very surprised if Mrs PIllay would be objective. Changing places will not change her mind. As the leader of the UNHRC she has been the voice of separatism, echoing what the Tamil Diaspora wants. Just because she is on Sri Lankan soil does not mean she will have an awakening. She will look for the slightest fault or a situation that she would translate as a fault to continue this charade of of the “victimization” of the Sri Lankan Tamils.

the article points out two issues of the Tamil National Alliance which if not met would be construed as an act of human rights violations. To quote the article:”The TNA ‘s primary demand is the demilitarization of the North, and the release of the members of the Tamil Terrorist group now under detention.”

The Sri Lankan military is only a menace to the LITE and those who support LITE and not a danger to anyone else in Sri Lanka. As the article concludes the removal of the military and the release of Tamil Terrorists shows the true nature of the Tamil National Alliance and gives more credence that these demands should never be met.

Navi Pillay will come, see and then go back and attack. That is her game plan supported by Chennai, by the Tamil Diaspora and New Delhi, so expect the worst for that is the agenda of this woman and expect to stand up to a new chorus from across the world of condemnation till the possiblity of Eelam is realized.

Sri Lanka needs to go on a campaign that shows her side of the events that led to the end of the war including the progress Sri Lanka has made and take it to any nation who accuses Sri Lanka of these unfounded accusations. Buy time for a documentary produced by an objective look at the war, the nature of the Tamil Tigers, what they did during the war and what support India gave them.

Show the rise of TESO to the new funding of LITE for part of the reason that the military must remain in the lands that would have formed Eelam. Refer to the US civil war which claimed a million lives (625 thousand soldiers and another 400 thousand civilians) in a span of only four years and the fact that the victorious Union army stayed in the conquered Confederate states for decades.

Even now most of the US military bases are located in the conquered Southern states. That alone is reason enough to keep sections of the military permanently in those provinces with permanent bases and plans of expansion including the use of high technology to keep Sri Lanka united. Colombo won and the government of Colombo should and must have the last word on any issue dealing with post war Sri Lanka and not the Tamil minority or the Muslim minority.

She is a tigress who will never shed her stripes! Just to repeat my previous words: if Pillai is unfair we need to blame ourselves for various reasons INCLUDING Not OBJECTING to her participating in the investigation against SL in the first place. Why? Because eg. Israel / US will never allow a Muslim to investigate the Jews. When our Foreign Office Dicks, Toms & Harriets are so incompetent, we deserve the $hit we get from everybody. Our only hope now is to “take this Pillai woman by her ear, showcase how Tamils are flourishing in SL (as many have noted in Lankaweb etc ) and kick her but hard that her nose is rubbed into the ground so that she never will claim to forget what the ground realities she witnesed”. I sincerely hope the GoSL will have the guts to arrange to do just that – S de Silva – London

Navi Pillai is coming to Sri Lanka to see how she could further solve the Tamil Caste/poverty Problems of TAMIL NADU via Sri Lanka’s North & the Tamils of Lanka. She represents Tamil Nadu interests as well as other vested interests outside.

She must be told that Tamil Caste Problems exist only in the minds of Tamil people imported by the British & the Dutch in huge numbers to work their then tea & tobacco plantations. The Tamil Problem in Sri Lanka today is a psychological one of ingrained Caste structuring emanating from Tamil Nadu. There is NO government instilled or society instilled Caste Structuring in Sri Lanka. Tamils of Lanka have the same rights as all the Others of Lanka.

Our Sri Lankan problem is proximity to Tamil Nadu, and that can be remedied only through acute awareness of the real problem and acting on it. Lanka authorities have to organise the LABOR here to meet the Needs of the country as well as address Labor problems with innovative & modern methods.

  6. Fran Diaz Says:

Sri Lanka must tell Navi Pillai that there are many thousands of Tamil illegal migrants in Sri Lanka. She has to be told that thousands died in the North & N-East during the Tsunami of Dec 2004.

  7. Sri Rohana Says:

Sri Lankan authorities must take Mrs Navipillai to Colombo 7,6,5,4,3,13,14, tamil colonies, sea street tamil gold shops, main street tamil textile shops, Wattala, Mattakuliya, Kotahena and other tamil colonies with in Colombo city. Tamil import exporters, Keels super market chain, Maharaja Organisation, Cargills supermarket chains and St. Anthony’s group of industries. These are some examples only. Then only she can understand how tamils live peacefully in Sri Lanka with Sinhala majority.
Give her Colombo city’s statistics and she can verify that Colombo city’s majority are muslims and the second highest population is tamil and the third highest is Roman Catholics. But the minority is Sinhala Buddhist just not even 15% of Sri Lanka’s capital city population. She must verify these facts before go to Geneva. (But her report will write by a LTTE member so he/she will not include these)
Then take her to other cities such as Kandy, Galle, Nuwara eliya, Hatton, Badulla, Monaragala Dehiwela, Mt Lavinia, Negombo, Ratnapura, Kegalle etc how tamils live peacefully with Sinhala majority
And take her to tamil medium schools that’s majority in Sri Lanka. Can take her anywhere in Sri Lanka all the street signs are in English, Sinhala and Tamil languages. She can verify by her own.
All our currencies, stamps, passports and every vital document are in English, Sinhala and tamil languages. Education and health are free to all even to LTTE terrorists.
Rather than just go to Jaffna and submit a report to UNHR won’t help anyone. That will help only Mrs Navi Pillai’s tribalism, tamil racism and to tamil racist terrorist supporters to claim bogus refugee claims in europe and a good political stage to tamil homeland’s tamil nadu politicians for the next Indian election.

  8. Fran Diaz Says:

Most Sinhala/Buddhist (that is about 52% of Lanka population) tend to think that the BUDDHIST DOCTRINE is more or less the “law of the land”. This is just wishful thinking and a thought pattern from the ancient past. Sinhala/Buddhists have to study the ACTUAL law of the land and make corrections where necessary. Buddhist priests ought to study Law for the purpose of protecting the land and the People.

  9. Fran Diaz Says:

Correction: According to the 2012 Census, Lanka is 70.19% Sinhala/Buddhist ! Most of them are ‘sleeping’ or ignorant or do not know what to do ?

  10. S de Silva Says:

FD – you may excuse the ignorance of the significant populus when the paid administers perform no better, beginning with the Foreign Ministry! – S de Silva – London

  11. Fran Diaz Says:

Please don’t misunderstand me – I am looking for cause & effect. I know all are trying to survive here, however hard it is sometimes for a lot of people ….

Apart from the foreign brought in Colonial legal system overlaying the ancient Buddhist outlook in Sri Lanka, take the time frames in our near history.

    (1) Nearly 500 yrs of Colonial rule and its aftermath, felt to this day.

    (2) After Independence from Britain in 1948, the Cold War period which most countries could not avoid (1946 – 1991) and the aftermath of it, felt to this day.

    (3) Tamil Caste Wars (about 30 yrs at height after Independence) rode on the back of the Cold War, and the after effects are felt even now.

    (4) Ever present proximity of Tamil Nadu – no getting away from that – a fixed problem.

Sri Lanka has to be given an equal period of time, i.e. about 550 yrs to overcome all the after effects in total. We have barely been given 25-30 yrs of relative peace between 1948 and now ! Is this fair ?
Is this fair when most other Democracies are still struggling too, one way or another, especially the colonised countries ? Let those who want to judge us, judge themselves first.

  12. Fran Diaz Says:

Besides the superimposed Legal System, there is also the superimposed Fiscal System, Monetary & Market Systems, Culture shock, Sc&Tech gadgets, etc., which even the more sophisticated Colombian people have NOT got used to.

Is all this fair by our suburban & rural folk ?

  13. Charles Says:

Aug 23 (Reuters) The UN human rights chief said she has an “open mind” and will not be “pre-judging anything” ahead of her first trip to Sri Lanka, which is under growing pressure from the international community to address alleged war crimes.

  14. Fran Diaz Says:

We live in Hope for real Justice for the People of Sri Lanka from the various foreign agencies. Will it ever happen for the post-Colonised ?

The new interest in the ex-CJ a bargaining point ?

  15. Ananda-USA Says:

Asking Navi Pillay to “Come to Sri Lanka Unencumbered by Prejudices” is like asking a Tamil Tiger to Shed its Stripes!

    It simply ain’t possible!

Navi Pillay should be declared persona-non-grata in Sri Lanka, and kept out of the country. She is coming to create MORE PROBLEMS for Sri Lanka.

A campaign should be launched to expose her biases and get her fired from her UN post. Until that happens, Sri Lanka should use every available means to counteract her activities and influence at the UN against Sri Lanka, but APPEALING to a NON-EXISTENT sense of duty and honesty to be UNBIASED in her official role … IS A FOOLS ERRAND!

  16. Lorenzo Says:

    Agree with Ananda.

When this tigress comes not only TNA but also SLMC TERRORISTS will tell her bad things about SL.

After that she will go with MORE BAD IMPRESSIONS about SL than good.

Anyway she should be taken to Wellawatta, Kottachena, etc. and show how Tamilians are living it rich.
