Alleged human rights violations is the biggest money-making industry for anti-Sri Lanka Tamils abroad

Asada M Erpini

The average junior doctor in Sri Lanka earns Rs. 50,000 to 60,000 per month as salary. The situation of university academics is worse: they get a much lower salary and receive no perks as is the case with parliamentarians and provincial council members. Of course the opportunity is there for university dons attached to the medical and dental faculties to engage in private practice to earn an extra income. However, the relatively junior lecturers have to open clinics in fairly remote places as they cannot dream of competing with their teachers who are senior professors, who have a name in medicine and at times in other fields as well, who had established themselves in the affluent urban settings.

As opposed to the above, the bogus Tamil refugees who picked and chose to move to Canada, US, UK, Australia, Netherlands and many other rich countries earn many times more than the educated who opted to remain in Sri Lanka. Most of these countries provide a dole to the unemployed – in fact, British dailies carry stories of many families who have been British for generations saying that being unemployed and receiving benefits from the government is a great deal better than seeking employment – and all that the bogus refugees have to do is to somehow end up on their shores. Once in, there are other avenues of earning for the fraudulent: credit card scams, human smuggling and bank note forgery are a few of these. After getting settled in the new found haven, the ‘refugees’ will have no qualms of contributing even half of their earnings to the LTTE kitty: a person earning the equivalent of LKR 100,000 will still have LKR 50,000 with him, and with ingenious tactics, they can a lot more.

In addition to the willing contributors, there are many others who are forced to pay the LTTE. Many of the Tamils who are now domiciled in the rich countries have their aging parents or other close relatives in Sri Lanka, either in the North or in luxury flats and condominiums that they have bought in Wellawatte, Bambalapitya, Kollupitiya or Havelock Road. The LTTE ringleaders threaten them with harm to their relatives if they do not make substantial contributions to their goal. That is how the LTTE is reported to have amassed nearly $4 billion and have been collecting $2 billion dollars every month from Canada alone.

The list of contributors to LTTE can go on and on. There are many doctors and engineers who studied at Colombo or Peradeniya universities in the sixties and the seventies at government expense who are doing extremely well today in the US, Canada and the UK. While they never experienced any discrimination when they were undergraduate students in the Sri Lankan universities, quite a few have turned into vociferous propagators of the LTTE lies, opening the way to others to follow.

The anti-Sri Lanka Tamils abroad are much smarter than what one would surmise. Today, the two words genocide and diaspora have become almost the private property of the Sri Lanka bashers. To evoke the sympathy of the gullible westerners, the two expressions have become catch phrases. As long as one could remember, diaspora referred to the dispersion of Jews beyond Israel (the Oxford Dictionary, too, gives the same meaning to the word) and genocide that is best known is what happened during World War II to Jews at the hands of the Nazi soldiers.

Using genocide and diaspora is a clever and ingenious ruse that the LTTE used, and its backers are still using, to tug at the heart strings of the ‘do gooders’ to highlight the so-called plight of Tamils.

There was never a genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka – Nearly 50% of the population in Colombo is Tamil. In the finals stages of the liberation war that culminated on 19 May 300,000 Tamils kept as a human shield were liberated. They may not have received five-star treatment, but at least they got three square meals a day and were housed in temporary camps until they could be sent back to their original places. The ungrateful anti-Sri Lanka Tamils referred to these as concentration camps, again to link their situation with the plight of Jews in the 1940s.

The issue of diaspora – dispossessed of their original homeland – is hilarious. Just 30 kilometers Northwest of Sri Lanka there is a vast land of Tamils that goes by the name Tamil Nadu (country of Tamils). That is the homeland of the Tamils with 72 million inhabitants, but none of the Tamils would opt to go there: it is reported that over 45% of the Tamil Nadu people do not have toilets. Naturally, the ‘persecuted’ Tamils from Sri Lanka would go to any length to get to Canada – the country that has the highest living standards in the world.

The human rights issue campaign by the anti-Sri Lanka Tamils will go on forever. If the people behind it were to stop, that amounts to killing the goose that lays golden eggs. Every time there is a major international conference they go “full steam ahead” to vilify Sri Lanka: come March 2014 and we can expect another crescendo with corrupt politicians of the west taking the baton and the faked TV documentary makers who are ready to be canaries singing for their supper in tandem. The annual Human Rights Council sessions is scheduled to take place at the time!

EVEN A BARBER UNDER THE MEGOLOMANIAC WAS A HUMAN RIGHTS CHAMPION. HE COLLECTED HIS DEGREE ON HUMAN RIGHTS FROM THE VANNI JUNGLES. SINCE THEN, ALL LTTE TAMILS ARE DEGREE HOLDERS OF HUMAN RIGHTS. IT IS THE VERY IMPORTANT DEGREE TO START A BUSINESS OF COLLECTING AN UNENDING FLOW OF FUNDS. HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS ARE MILLIONAIRES, PERIOD.

Thank you Asada………It is very true what Tamils & LTTE rump are doing. They are upto all sorts of illegal activities, and blame ALL on Sri Lanka & Sinhalese.

WHY they cannot go to Tamil Nadu who protected & started the TERROR in Sri Lanka, baffles me. Going either to Australia or Canada has been their PRIME OBJECTIVE.

So far no credible organization in Canada , UK or Australia has even attemot to find out what & how they collect so much funds to carry out DIS-INFORMATION & HALF thruths to gain sympathy & funds to line their own pockets.

It is time Sri Lankans who love their Motherland, start inquiring HOW this otganizations COLLECT funds to attack Sri Lankan govt. at every chance they get.

I hope one day these culprits will be hounded & punished for their illegal activities carried out in foreign lands.

    Thank you all………J

    Jayasiri,

The punishment of “those culprits” is slow but sometimes does happen.

Have you heard of Raj Rajaratnam? This FRMER Sri Lankan TAmil Multibillionaire, started with initial investment capital from the LTTE, and created the Galleon Fund group. As his financial empire grew using every trick in the book to defraud investors and companies, he funded his mentors in the LTTE to inflict muder and mayhem upon the innocent people of Sri Lanka.

Today, he is wearing a Tiger Striped Suit in a US Federal Penitentiary, having been convicted of violating US Federal Laws prohibiting the use of Insider Information to Illegally Profit from in stock market transactions. He bribed his way to acquire that information from a widespread network of high-level moles within US companies.

He was given the LONGEST SENTENCE of any person convicted of such a fraud in the US, and was fined over a billion dollars. He should also be convicted of sponsoring terrorism as well, but that will never happen. Recall that Al Capone, Chicago’s mafia boss of yesteryear, was only convicted of TAX EVASION, but not for the killing of hundreds of people directly, and indirectly, during his rampage through history.

Succumbs to electoral pressure: Tamil diaspora confab behind Mauritius’ CHOGM boycott

Close on the heels of Mauritius’ decision to boycott CHOGM 2013 in Sri Lanka, an LTTE supportive diaspora conference had been organised at the behest of a key terrorist operative.

An authoritative source told the Sunday Observer that the three-day conference titled “International Tamil Diaspora Solidarity Conference” was held from November 8-10 and allegedly LTTEer Perinpanayagam Sivaparan known as Nediyawan was behind it.

The objective of the conference was to call for a boycott of CHOGM 2013 in Sri Lanka.

The sources said that Mauritius’ decision to keep away from the Commonwealth summit in Sri Lanka may have been influenced by this conference and LTTE lobbying.

Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Chandra Ramgoolam said that he was boycotting the Colombo meeting on November 13.

Mauritius’ population consists mainly of people of Indian descent and the Tamil population accounts for about nine percent.

“Like India and Canada, Mauritius too came under electoral pressure, where the Tamils constitute nine percent of its population,” the source said. He said this significant portion of votes can tilt the outcome of elections in Mauritius.

The New Indian Express last year quoted Mauritius Vice President A.V. Chettiyar as saying that most Tamils in Mauritius were LTTE supporters on his visit to Madurai.

He declined to divulge further details saying that it was classified information.

Nediyawan’s international front, the International Council of Eelam Tamils (ICET) teamed up with the Mauritius Tamil Temple Federation (MTTF) to organise the event. It is alleged that MTTF President Menon Murdy had worked closely with Nediyawan’s team and was their spokesperson in Mauritius.

A team of delegates to the conference had also met Foreign Minister Arvin Boolell to press for a CHOGM boycott.

A similar conference by the Nediyawan faction was held in Geneva earlier.

Academics, Human Rights activists and a few Members of Parliament were invited to the event and Penang’s Deputy Chief Minister Prof. P. Ramasamy delivered the opening address.

The sources said that the degree of LTTE propaganda in Mauritius was disturbing given their decision to keep away from the Commonwealth’s flagship event.

Island-wide household census will determine number affected by conflict

    By Franklin R. Satyapalan

    November 23, 2013

The Secretary to the Ministry Public Administration and Home Affairs Bandara P. Abeyakoon said the government launched an internationally-recognized island-wide household census to ascertain first-hand persons affected by the conflict, gone missing and feared dead or disabled after 1982.

He said that in the past, a similar household census was conducted ad hoc and as a result there were conflicting reports that some 40,000 to 60,000 persons went missing during the conflict.

He said that the Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics D. C. A. Gunawardena has been tasked to implement this project.

Gunawardena said that he was carrying out the instructions of the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga who serves as Chairman of the Task Force to implement the Lessons Learnt Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) recommendations to set in motion a scientifically designed household census

He said that the objective of this island-wide household census is to ascertain the number affected after 1982 and also gather first-hand information on the scale and circumstances of death and injury of civilians as well as all damage to property during the conflict.

The census, funded by the government and the department, was tasked to conclude its work before the December 20, 2013 deadline.

He said that his departmental officers at the district level were summoned to Colombo for workshops conducted at the Hector Kobbekaduwa HARTI auditorium so that the trainers could train Divisional Secretariats and Grama Niladhari officers to carry out the census scientifically.

  6. Lorenzo Says:

Now SL too has given into Tamil pressure. We already did a census in 2011. Why now another one? A census within a month? What is a joke.

It is a panic stricken REACTION to Cum-Moron’s threat.

MR talked big but as ALWAYS succumbed to defeat.

  7. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

When one sees the UNHRC ignore massive human rights violations in India where it is reported of the 29 million slaves in the world 14 million are in India and that does not include the horrors of the Caste system to those still in power who supported the genocidal acts by the Tamil Tigers. (A great book ‘Crucible of Decline by Rocco S. Bagaladi makes fun of the Tamil Tigers while showcasing Sri Lanka as a rising power)

When one sees crimes against humanity commited in the slums of India, upon Indian women and girls to the entire continent of Africa it is just a political ploy meant to be selectively used on certain nations. Human rights along with Global warming are the biggest poncy schemes to make a quick buck in the world. That is why I strongly suggest one check out “Crucible of Decline” by Rocco S Bagaladi. go to Amazon.books and read the back of the book. It is a book worth reading.

  8. radha Says:

Some of the fault lies with ourselves. In the name of reconcilliation the government did nothing to expose terrorist atrocities committed during the 30-years of terrorism in Sri Lanka. Even today, for every 100-videos that terrorist rump produce dispersing hatred and misinformation, SLK and its supporters produce one-second of video material. SLK government waste billions of dollars on useless mega parties, seeking empty publicity for MR, importing fleets of luxury vehicles for bloated and totally useless retinue of Ministres and MPs, but only a few cents for publicity material exposing terrorist atrocities. On top of that, law and order in the country has gone to dogs; local tin pot UPFA hooligans have carved up the country side for personal ransom collection and pillaging of the innocents. All these lay into the hands of terrorist rump in the western countries, bringing wrong publicity to SLK. The President turns a blind eye to all these misdeeds like deaf and dumb elephant. What do you expect? Our leader does not care. He only wants publicity balls like a teenage bride. He does not know how to organize and mobilize the country, and the only one who knew that he made an enemy of. God help Sri Lanka!

  9. Dilrook Says:

Actually it is a big money making industry of local Tamils as well. Human rights, humanitarian visa, humanitarian assistance and other connected matters is a large industry with branches in human smuggling, narcotics, international terrorism, propaganda, etc.

However, Sri Lanka is a worse wrongdoer than the Tamil Diaspora. Most of this bad attention is self inflicted due to commission and ommission. Government is reluctant to highlight war crimes committed by ITAK/TNA leaders, Tamil Diaspora and foreign nations relating to the war to keep its “reonciliation gain” (none to mention). This has given the LTTE Rump a free reign.

What happens in the island is Tamil Nadu indirect control of the Sri Lankan government through Indian, western and local Tamil pressure tactics. The nation is collapsing into a hopeless economic and political pit. From the national point of view, it has merit to inflict the fear of war crimes investigations on the ruling clan to get them to work for the nation. If they lose the next national election, the entire ruling clan will be investigated and punished for concocted war crimes. Stakes in power and winning elections have never been higher. With 85% of borrowed funds wasted in the north and the east with no real addition to state revenue, reluctance to resettle Sinhalese and Muslims in the north and continue demilitarisation will accelerate the demise of this administration.

The crucial question is which will fall first; this administration or the nation.

Indian authorities arrest 56 Sri Lankan gold smugglers

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 25,Colombo: Indian authorities have arrested 56 Sri Lankans at Cochin Airport in the Kerala State of India on charges of smuggling over 11 kilograms of gold ornaments.

The air intelligence unit of Cochin International Airport apprehended two groups of Sri Lankans who arrived in the city with around 11 kg of gold ornaments worth more than Rs 30 million.

The arrest has confirmed the long-suspected international gold smuggling racket centered on the Colombo-Kochi-Chennai, according to Indian media reports.

According to airport officials, 10 kg of crude gold ornaments have been seized from 42 Sri Lankans of whom 28 were women on Sunday morning. Another group of 14 Sri Lankans, one of whom a woman, had been arrested yesterday evening with 1.733 kg of gold ornaments.

Both groups had arrived from Sri Lanka, and most of them were found to have frequently travelled to India from Sri Lanka since September.

The men have worn the ornaments on their necks but concealed by large collars, and the women hid the ornaments in their undergarments.

Commissioner of Customs of the Cochin International Airport K.N.Raghavan has said that this is the first time that a racket involving Sri Lankans in gold smuggling has come to light. A report on the arrest will be sent to the Sri Lankan mission in India, the official said.

Raghavan said that The Commissioner of Customs also said that verification of their passports shows that many of those caught yesterday are frequent travelers to several South Indian airports including Chennai and Madurai, and some of them had travelled to Cochin six times this month.

No need to change SL foreign policy: Gota

    DailyMirror.lk
    November 25, 2013

Referring to relations with China and India, Sri Lanka said today there was no reason to change its current non-aligned foreign policy.

“China’s support for the Hambantota Port is commercial in nature, and should not be misconstrued as fitting the “String of Pearls” paradigm. Sri Lanka has always pursued a non-aligned foreign policy. We continue to provide logistical and other support to ships including naval vessels or warships belonging any country that call over at our ports. There is no reason for this state of affairs to change in the future,” Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said.

He expressed these views when delivering the keynote address at the ‘Galle Dialogue-2013, which began this morning.

He also said: There is much speculation in the international community about the ambitions of these nations with regard to the Indian Ocean. The intention of both China and India to increase instruments of maritime power is an interesting aspect of great power strategic competition.

Much attention is given to the potential tension between Chinese security concerns regarding sea lines of communication in the Indian Ocean, which are critical to its economy, and India’s supposed attitude to this region as its backyard. There is also wariness about China’s relationships with India’s near neighbours, and Indian commentators in particular are concerned about ports funded by China in these countries, which they dub “the string of pearls”.

From Sri Lanka’s perspective, India is our largest neighbour and the most important country in the region. Notwithstanding occasional bilateral issues, our social, cultural, economic and political ties are both historic and robust. At the same time, it has to be noted that Sri Lanka’s relationship with China also dates back many centuries, into historic times. Sri Lanka recognised the People’s Republic of China in 1950 and formal diplomatic relations between the two nations were established in 1957. This bilateral relationship is multi-faceted and deep rooted.

There is great mutual trust and friendship between the two nations. China has been one of Sri Lanka’s foremost development partners over the last few years, and Chinese support for many infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka is particularly noteworthy. Chinese support for construction of the Hambantota port was instrumental in fulfilling a longstanding need in Sri Lanka to cater to the shipping lines passing south of the island.

This is a TAMIL criminal syndicate. SL authorities are too foolish to stop its hard earned gold being smuggled outside!!

Regional as well as global naval powers are participating in the fourth edition of the Galle Dialogue, scheduled to begin today at the Light House Hotel.

Among the participants are those who had been supportive of Sri Lanka’s war against terror paving the way for the conclusion of the conflict in May 2009.

A record number of 35 countries, including the US, China, Russia, Pakistan, India, Israel, the UK, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Iran, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, South Africa and Vietnam are attending the two-day conference.

Navy spokesperson Commander Kosala Warnakulasooriya told The Island that at the inaugural confab in 2010, there had been only representatives from 11 countries, the following year 19 and last year there were 28.

Commander Warnakulasooriya said: “We are delighted to have about 90 international representatives in Galle. The gradual increase in the number of participants meant the importance of the event inaugurated close on the heels of Sri Lanka’s victory over the LTTE.”

The Galle Dialogue gets underway in the wake of the Sri Lanka Navy earning the appreciation of Australia for taking meaningful measures to stem illegal migration of people to down under. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott visited the navy’s flagship SLNS Sayura, formerly of the Indian Navy, at the Colombo Port on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) where he announced the gifting of two Bay Class ships to the navy.

Navy Chief Vice Admiral J. S. K. Colombage will deliver the welcome address, while presidential secretary Lalith Weeratunga and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa too are scheduled to speak.

Fleet Commander of the Royal Australian Navy Rear Admiral Timothy Barrett will discuss ways and means of curbing people smuggling by close cooperation.

Among those scheduled to make presentations included senior representatives from China, Malaysia, Pakistan, France, Iran, Vietnam and the Maldives.

Meanwhile, Navy headquarters said that five ships of Russia’s Pacific Fleet arrived at the Colombo port on Sunday on their way to home port Vladivostok from the Mediterranean. Russian mission commander Captain 1st Rank Maxim S. Alalykin is attending the Galle Dialogue.”

Sri Lanka seeks meaningful economic cooperation and strong genuine diplomatic relationships

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 25, Galle: Sri Lanka, emerging from the end of a three-decade long war in less than five years ago, needs the support of its friends and not the unproductive criticism and admonishment that some nations continually dwelling in the past offer, Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said today.

Delivering the keynote address at the 4th annual international maritime security conference “Gall Dialogue 2013” today in Galle, the Defense Secretary said Sri Lanka is seeking meaningful economic cooperation and strong genuine diplomatic relationships.

“This is precisely what Sri Lanka’s closest allies today readily offer, which is something the entire country is greatly appreciative of,” the Secretary Defense said.

The two-day conference themed to address the “Emerging Maritime Trends in the Indian Ocean” has brought together representatives from 35 global and regional naval powers including America, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia and South Korea.

Speaking further on the historic importance of the Indian Ocean as a major conduit of international exploration, migration and commerce and the emerging trends such as sea piracy and armed robbery by Somali pirates, the Defense Secretary said Sri Lanka is one of the countries that has taken the lead in ensuring the security in the region.

Pointing out that Sri Lanka successfully ended the menace of LTTE’s naval wing Sea Tigers that was a threat to the maritime security in the region, Rajapaksa said the experience gained from combating such ruthless opponents is invaluable in countering the activities of pirates in international waters.

The illicit trafficking of narcotics and weapons, human smuggling in the Indian Ocean and terrorism are other serious issues that have a very detrimental impact on the national security of nations in its littoral, he said.

The answer to the illicit trafficking of drugs, weapons, and persons is the increase in cooperation amongst the nations in the Indian Ocean region, the Defense Secretary told the forum.

Effective sharing of intelligence between countries, increased coordination between law enforcement agencies and Government departments, and establishing bilateral and multilateral mechanisms to combat these issues cooperatively is critical if trafficking is to be prevented, he noted.

He said the fight against terrorism is a global one and it should be crushed wherever it emerges, and nations should support each other’s efforts to eliminate terrorism wholeheartedly.

The Sri Lankan Defense Secretary emphasized that genuine cooperation amongst nations at the highest level is needed to eliminate terrorism in a systematic and coordinated fashion.

“Intelligence sharing, fostering maritime domain awareness through joint operations and combined patrols, and enhancing interoperability amongst Navies is important,” Rajapaksa said adding that the world’s major naval powers should also provide assistance to improve the resources and capabilities of smaller nations in order enhance overall maritime security.

“The overall security and stability of the entire Indian Ocean region is critical for the global economy, and Sri Lanka is proud to play its part by fulfilling its responsibilities in its maritime domain,” he noted.

At the same time, fostering greater cooperation and partnership amongst the naval powers active in the region is necessary to support the future prosperity of the Indian Ocean region.
