An appeal to elected representatives of the People of Sri Lanka

World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka PO Box 4066, Mulgrave VIC 3170, Australia

Dear Honourable Parliamentarians protecting the national interests in this critical hour,

We are concerned about some reports of the persons nominated to the Constitution Council of Sri Lanka by the Government.   If the names mentioned  in the media are correct then we wish to request you to revise the list to  bring in a  more balanced representation to the Constitution Council.

Our concerns are mainly regarding the representatives of NGOs who have been selected essentially to appease the foreign interests.   It is not necessary to further emphasise the anti-national stance of the NGOs during the critical days of Vadukoddai separatist War.  Their consistent stand has been to appease the Tamil Tiger terrorists banned by the  international community in the name of peace which never came, even with the CFA and P-TOMS which gave them territory and power bordering on an independent state.

With the brazen support of the West and the pro-Western elements in the Government these NGOs have come to fore once again to push their anti-national politics in the name of reconciliation which they assume is one way – i.e., the Government giving in all the way with no reciprocal goodwill/advances from the other partiers. NGO representatives have crept into the administration of the Yahapalanaya in devious  ways and getting a foothold in the Constitution Council will be the icing on their cake.

We wish to recommend the following distinguished persons as deserving, knowledgeable and patriotic candidates for the Constitutional Council.

1 Mr Gomin Dayasri, P.C.

2 Mr Manohara De Silva, P.C.

3 Dr Anula Wjesundara.

4.Prof. Gerald Pieris,

5 His Excellency C. G. Weeramantry

6 Mr Romesh De Silva P.C..

7.Mr Prasantha Lal de Alwis

8 Mr Neville Laduwahetty,

  1. Mr Jayantha Weerasinghe P.C

In the interests of the peoples you represent and their future we appeal to you to keep foreign-funded NGO representatives away from all national institutions. We request you humbly to follow the example  of India and Russia where the NGOs are kept in their place with the least amount  of interference in national affairs.

We wish you all success in protecting our national interests at all time.

Yours sincerely

Ranjith Soysa-Spokesperson
