America Expresses Distress over Ranil’s Undemocratic Conduct

A ‘No Confidence Motion’ with the most number of signatures in the history of Sri Lanka Parliament has been presented against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to the distress and dissapointment of the US government, it said recently.

If this no confedence motion is passed in parliament, the positive changes that have taken place in the country since the regime change in January, will come to an end.

Richard E. Hoagland, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the US State Department, said that, it is quite disgruntling and troubling to know that the Prime Minister of the government they (US) helped to be brought in, has violated basic democratic norms and acted in an undemocratic manner within such a short time of his appointment.

Establishing of the FCID to hunt down his political opponents and the cover-up of the controversial Central Bank bond issue are grave and undemocratic situations.  The Opposition has sufficient proof against the PM, hence a no confidence motion against him would bring disrepute to him, said Hoagland.

If the no confedence motion is passed in parliament with a majority vote (which it most likely will be), the US considers the defeat of Wickremesinghe, a personal blow to their (US) efforts and for the work done on behalf of Sri Lanka by them, said the Assistant Secy.

Atleast now pl allow SRI LANKA TO LOOK AFTER THEIR OWN PROBLEMS SO THAT THE DIRTY,REVENGEFUL,EVIL ACTS OF RANIL-THE ILLEGETIMATE PM & MY3 THE UNGREATFULL PRESIDENT PREVENTING THE FAMILY OF RAJAPAKSAS,TRI FORCES AND M R SUPPORTERS FROM DIRTY HARRASING BY THE BANDITS,R W & MY3!!!

Now it is up to the opposition to demand from the US ambassador how the US helped to bring in Ranil the traitor as our PM to destroy Sri Lanka on behalf of the Tamil diaspora. The people have the right to know how this help was given, how much money was involved, where the money went, if so if any money was given to MY3, Ranil, Chandrika and Mangala. This should be investigated as there is definitely corrupt practices involved as stated by this high ranking US official. This is also a good opportunity to further strengthen the no confidence motion against this obviously illegal PM as even the US too admits Ranil is acting in a manner violating the basic democratic norms.
WIMAL AND VASU, please take note of this very important statement.

I don’t know how ‘troubled’ the US really is about Ranil and the UNP getting booted out of their minority-led government and the establishment of majority rule, but if they are troubled, then this obviously is a good thing because they are more concerned with their own China Containment interest in Sri Lanka than what is in the best long term interest for this country.

Parliament needs to go well beyond the no-confidence motion on Ranil and listen to GL Peiris who is calling for the appointment of a UPFA PM who DOES have the “confidence of Parliament” who can then appoint a new cabinet that will be in place until Parliament’s term expires in April of 2016. This majority-control process will re-stabilize Sri Lanka, and get investors interested in investing again in the country. Stability and continuity is what investors need, and Ranil and the UNP have done quite the opposite by trying to rule the country without majority support.

Had most Maithripala voters known on January 8th that Maithripala was going to simply transfer the power of the president to Ranil as prime minister, Maithripala would have been soundly defeated as this is not what most voters in Sri Lanka want. Giving Ranil control of the cabinet, which is tantamount to giving him control of the executive function of the government, should have been openly discussed PRIOR to the election, so the voter could decide if they wanted Ranil and the UNP running the country.

    MB,

But NO MR supporter (excluding Sarath Weerasekara) OPPOSED the 19 amendment that gave power to the PM!!

  5. Kumari Says:

Don’t trust Americans. Did they respect majority rule in once powerful Egypt? Morsi was people’s choice and on unfounded charges of Muslim Brotherhood, he was jailed with his supporters and a military man of America’s choice was made to win elections.

These Yanks must be cooking something to stop Rajapakse’s obvious return to power. Our puppet My3 too will place his signature on any document to please the whites and modi.

  6. Metteyya_Brahmana Says:

    Lorenzo,

The only reason they did not oppose 19A is the plan was to install their own majority government with their own PM all along. Ranil was not smart enough to see this coming. No SLFP MP would prefer a ‘minor’ or state ministership with Ranil when they can get a major ministership with their own PM. Also they no longer have to worry about Ranil’s FCID threats once he is removed from the PM. A good bet is the FCID is toast as the first move of the new PM. This leaves Ranil with no bargaining power with the on-the-fence MPs. So they will tell Ranil and the UNP (what they want to hear) they will not vote against the no-confidence motion to get them off their back temporarily and then permanently get them off their back by actually voting FOR the motion.

Brilliant strategy that leaves Ranil and the UNP twiddling their thumbs until next April or May, and by then the momentum and power will be with the majority government and the truth regarding Ranil and the UNPs poor management of Sri Lanka for the 100 days will be made plain to the voters.

  7. Kumari Says:

Original 19A was to reduce President’s powers (an election promise) and to give all that to the one who was holding the post of PM on 20th April 2015. That person was unelected RW. What the real opposition (the one led by Dinesh) did was to take all those powers from the president to the parliament. So, RW and My3 both hasn’t got much power.

The next best thing I am hoping for is ousting of My3 from SLFP as he was not their presidential candidate and infact, he contested against the SLFP.

  8. janakic Says:

The ball appears to be in SLFP MPs’ court. If so why don’t they kick it?

  9. NAK Says:

Now, those who scoffed at the truth about foreign involvement in the Jan 08th regime can turn around and bite thier tail hard. We knew from the begining it was another ‘operation Panama’.
The back stabbing pretender my3 and his handler RW must be made redundent ASAP by a powerful government with MR in the lead. Then the rest of the double crossing basterds must be dealt with accordingly.
