“My challenge to PM on Bond issue still valid”- Former CBSL Governor

Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal addressing the media yesterday in Colombo stressed that controversial Central Bank Treasury bond issue on February 27 has affected badly for the country and the wrong-doers cannot be set-free for any reason.

The former Governor challenged Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for a debate on transactions done by the Central Bank during last six months under his leadership. He further said that the controversial transaction has affected the country’s economy as never happened in the history by a single incident.

He also said that the incident could force on foreign investors who were interested in investing on Treasury bonds. Whole the country knows who is behind this deal and it is not just Arjun Mahendran. That is why I challenged the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for an open debate over the issue” he added.

The former Central Bank Governor also commented on the government’s position on China, saying that China was becoming a leading investor in regional countries including Australia. Negative comments on China will not help Sri Lanka,” he also added.
