Govt. action shows suppression of people’s rights: NFF
National Freedom Front (NFF) MP Jayantha Samaraweera said yesterday the police attack on students of the Higher Diploma in Accountancy showed the government’s suppressive reaction to the people’s demands.
The government has proved it was not interested in good governance but in ‘Yama Palanaya’ in the country,” Mr. Samaraweera said adding that instead of assigning such a vital portfolio to the minister of highways the government should have appointed a Higher Education Minister who would be sensitive to the demands of students.

Can probe police if complaint is made, says NPC
The National Police Commission (NPC) can investigate if police had behaved in an improper manner when they broke up yesterday’s (29) protest by Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) students, Acting Secretary to the Commission N. Ariyadasa Coorey stated.
The secretary said this in answer to a query raised by The Nation on whether the NPC, which has been empowered under the 19th Amendment to Constitution, would investigate allegations of police brutality during yesterday’s protest by students in front of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

පෙළපාළිය සාමකාමී නැති නම් විසිරුවා හරින්න පොලිසියට බලයක් තිබෙනවා. එම බලය අවම බලය විය යුතුයි. අවම බලය අවස්ථාවෝචිතයි.
වැටුණු පසුත් පහර දෙන්න බෑ. එළවා එළවා ගහන්න බෑ. එසේ වී තිබෙනවා නම් මූලික අයිතිවාසිකම් නඩුවක් ගොනු කළ හැකියි.

There are few points we need to address regarding this incident.
HNDA is a diploma. Why should be it granted status of a degree?
Mahapola is a privilage Sri Lankan students enjoy. 99% of nations in the world charge for education. Sri Lanka pays students to study. Students should be grateful, not demand more money. So called Western democracies give student loans, which will be recovered even after the death of the student, from his/her estate. Sri Lankan students
have no idea how rest of the world work.
CWW Kannangara was the father of Free Education. He was defeated in General Election by a Mudalali in a old Westminster system election. This is how ungrateful Sri Lankans are. If Sri Lankans value Free Education will they do this?
Yahapalana Government has indicated their preference for private education during the election. People have voted in favor of cutting services to public sector education. Why are these students complaining now. I noticed some JVP activists among these students. Did’t JVP work very hard to elect Ranil Wickramasinghe? Why are the protesting against their new leader (UNP Red branch).

By the way HND is a type of degree certificate in UK, but it is considered as a technician’s qualification.

NMY you are 100% right. People should be able to express their opinion in a democratic society whether it is asking for recognition for grade 8 or whatever. This is a gang of murderers who killed Sinhalese youth and burned their bodies in
town centres, severed heads and put the torsos in rivers etc. The leader of the gang Buddhist hater, pol pot ponil
is the one ruling Sri Lanka today. Buddhists and hindus got no chance.

The last two elections in Lanka were rigged.
Students must not protest in the streets in the future. It is too dangerous. The State itself is harming and hammering students who protest. The Student Union leaders only must go and meet the Ministers and MPs concerned to sort out the problems.

My Comments Part ONE
1. S.W., aravinda, Ancient Sinhalaya, Neela Maha, and Fran Diaz: This did not happen yesterday.
2. It started at the first election where MR lost.
3. MR had a political meeting in Ampara and the people Living there wanted to give a petition to MR.
4. It was carefully planed and rehearsed by Champicka Ranawake and the Election Commissioner.
5. Used common law thugs as Buddhist monks as organizers and went house to house get people out to the streets.
6. Election Commissioner’s “so called certified Security guards” were given instructions to attack the crowed that wanted to move towards MR. Then these Election Security men dressed in SL Police uniforms attacked the crowed.
7. Look at photos carefully how they attack. Do you think SL police will do this type of attack? Answer is NO.
8. RANIL PUNK knew this at that time and offered Champika Ranawake the Energy ministry.
9. Why is Fran Diaz, Paid dis-information comment writer, advising students not to Ministers and MPs? If there is an up rising it will start from students and people!

You are hilarious ! Please do not give stupid advice to students or to the people to riot.
Students will only get killed and maimed demonstrating/rioting against the Police ! If requests must be made re marks to be lowered to get a Certificate, then it should be done by student Leaders going to meet with the Minister for Education and the MPs for the areas concerned.
RW’s govt will be only too happy to oblige with baton charges and tear gas. The Police only act under orders from the top.
Rathupaswela Riots, Riots of 1983 etc only brought misery to the people and the country. Lankans must learn to protest without street demonstrations.
Those good old days when peaceful protests were done in streets and authorites did something about the requests are over for Democratic countries like Lanka which are under seige thanks to war with terrorists and war crimes charges.

It seems to me that some folks LOVE riots, as long as they or their kids are not in the police/army firing line !
Riots are the preferred way for Separatists as they get Eelam plus more Refugees to go west. The 1983 trumped up Riots were a god send to Separatists and Refugee seekers as over One Million Tamil folk went west and formed the Tamil Diaspora, now the main Separatist group and pro-rump LTTE group. They do not care that some poor dumb Tamil Hindus got killed (about 300 plus) , properties were burnt (govt property as well as individuals properties, Tamil property & some Sinhala businesses such as Seneviratne Bros & Colombo Musical Stores, etc). They do not care that many prominent UNP leaders got killed. They do not care that CBK lost an eye due to a LTTE suicide bomber and Sarath Fonseka nearly died in a similar attack by a LTTE suicide bomber. About a 100,000 have died in the Tamil Separatism events. One cannot count the numbers suffering from mental and physical ill health due to the LTTE, from both Sinhala & Tamil groups. On top of it all, the JVP attacks had just been stopped end of 1980s. Yet more rioting is encouraged by some ! What a world.
It is far better for govt of Lanka to solve the problems that beset the People in a mature and friendly fashion instead of waiting for frustrations to build high among large groups of people.
Also, to control population explosions, it is far kinder to give free birth control to all. The Neem tree provides the answers for safe birth control for both men and women.
Poor Lanka, with friends such as Lanka has right at home, who needs Enemies ? !!
