Is Mahinda Courageous Enough to Leave the Dead SLFP and Form a New Political Party?
Posted on November 1st, 2015

Dilrook Kannangara

The SLFP is dying, if not already dead. The nation is in dire need of a progressive political party unburdened by dynasties and their handpicked appointees. In another four (4) years, this time, the presidential election campaign will be in full swing. Unless a new political force is formed, the next president will be either Ranil or Vimukthi Kumaratunga (if Sirisena doesn’t contest). There is absolutely no way Mahinda or any other progressive politician can get nominations from a SLFP-led coalition. With all senior SLFPers opposed to Mahinda and other nationalists, they will not allow them in. Last general election saw Sirisena allowing Mahinda to contest from the UPFA to garner maximum political clout for the election. Once the required momentum was achieved, Mahinda was kicked out. SLFP lost not just the election but also the opposition leader post. Had Mahinda contested from a new party, that party would have secured the opposition leader post and posed a credible opposition to the circus that is underway today. A Mahinda supporter cannot win the next presidential election by parachuting into the race then. The momentum and party infrastructure must be put in place now onwards.

Despite these facts, Mahinda was very reluctant to join the Nugegoda Campaign”. He avoided it and made only a cameo appearance towards the end. He has a lesson or two to learn from SWRD Bandaranaike in 1951. Within just five (5) years, Bandaranaike had won a landslide. He took the hard way, formed his own party and won power. To an extent even Sirisena did so (with the backing of the established UNP)! Unless Mahinda is as courageous, his political dynasty will be history. That’s not all; those who trusted Mahinda and stood by him will also be in the political rubbish bin.

Unfortunately, Mahinda has started to act similar in the run up to local government elections. Despite a few MPs trying to form a party, Mahinda has not put himself into it. Inability to learn from past mistakes will condemn the whole lot into political oblivious sooner than they expect.

The right strategy is to form a new party and contest every district the SLFP contests. This will give UNP a tremendous advantage in the short run, however, the strong bargaining position in creates will be useful in getting things done from the SLFP and its leader. At a future date members of the mainstream SLFP will realise the futility of remaining under Sirisena and join forces with the new party. That will help it capture power in grassroots level and launch its national campaign. The defeat of the SLFP to UNP will also force SLFP seniors to challenge its lousy leadership. If Mahinda worries he cannot get back to the SLFP if he leaves, he has little to worry. He will be anyway sidelined by the SLFP whatever he does.

Short term difficulties for long term gain. Has Mahinda the required courage to leave the dead SLFP and form a live new party? Only time will tell. If he doesn’t, voters will not stand by him as voters demand a courageous leader not a follower of Sirisena and Ranil.

The last parliamentry elections clearly showed who commanded the SLFP vote. All those who went behind Sirisena lost their seats and those who pretended to be with Mahinda managed to save their seats.Sirisena plundered the National list seats won by Mahinda votes to creep in those who lost.
Now Taking that lesson it is high time Mahinda show Sirisena who has the SLFP votes.Sirisena has already declaired that he is going to lead this election and this is the oppotunity for Mahinda to show in no uncertain terms who the real boss is.

  4. vyasan Says:

Mahinda Rajapakse should have formed a new party under his leadership and Vasudeva Nanayakkare and others as his patrons to challenge the UNP, as I don’t believe the SLFP is fully functioning as an opposition party now.
Sometimes courageous, determined decisions make way to the biggest change in life and one’s career, whether personal or public. Being undecided and in dilemma, or any kind or blind trust on one’s party or conviction will not take anyone to any goal.

  5. Fran Diaz Says:

In today’s world, Democracy is a sad joke as elections get rigged via computers.

In the old days, there were no wireless media going global to communicate trumped up stories to down fair political parties, able politicos, and elections. There was a clear paper trail to count votes and the voters knew their candidates. Today, candidates are hardly known except for a few, or known too late ! Most politicos today seem spineless, visionless and just money oriented, without morality or ethics.

Currently, the student unrest and Police brutality is going viral via various groups abroad, mainly Tamil Diaspora, I suspect.
It has all been orchestrated to make Lanka look like a brutal failed state, whilst the western powers are lauding the Yahap for good Democracy !

Recently, there was a news item to report that the Police are ordering a large consignment of BATONS !

Mahinda is an exceptional politician, astute and caring for the Nation and the People. The powers that be do not like such people as various agendas for dominance (for Resources, Trade etc) cannot be carried out easily ? We do not think it wise for MR to be prominent in politics at present and wonder whether there will ever be a future time where he can safely lead Lanka in a peaceful way. We have to realise that MR is not in charge of matters in Lanka. The churches mostly rule ? Lanka is a Buddhist state in name only ?

We have to ask ourselves why Ranil appointed Arjun Mahendran as Governor of the Central Bank as soon as RW was made PM by Pres Sirisena (of the flawed election). Said Pres Sirisena said he did it “because the west wanted it so” ! The Central Bank Bond scam by Mahendran downed the Economy. Mahendran is still Governor of the CB. Some 115 top officers of the CB have been transferred to protect/keep Mahendran as Governor.

We need a thousand MRs to overcome present day problems ! Sri Lanka is a key spot for Ports, Trade & access to India via Tamil Nadu, the breakaway state in the South of India. Sri Lanka has an over diverse society for such small island state and proximity to Tamil Nadu makes life fragile in Lanka. In a sense, Sri Lanka is akin to Cuba with giant neighbor USA. To cap it call, RW wants to have a ‘chunnel’ to Tamil Nadu, giving access to some 15 MILLION Tamil Dalits to cross over to Lanka ! “The Madness of King Ranil” seems an appropriate title to the drama from Temple Trees.

The world is undergoing a strange phase where post WW II euphoria has evaporated and no strong Cold War in the horizon to start a world war 3. The only solution is to “Go Within” as the 5 Senses do not deliver the desired results of Contentment & Peace for all.

Can humanity meet the challenges ahead with level heads and no killing wars and games ?

Christ said “the Kingdom of Heaven is WITHIN YOU” ; the Buddha said “Truth is WITHIN YOU” ; In Hinduism the Essence is in the Four Great Yogas, and Raj Yoga the highest of them all is akin to Buddhism and Meditation is the key there ; Islam means PEACE. So all the Great Religions are agreed on the godhead within as the Source of Contentment & Peace.

“Pull together or Perish together” seems to be on the cards.

  6. Nihal Perera Says:

Dilrook is correct.. Sirisena and the Bandit Queen will never allow MR to become the leader of SLFP again. MR is better off forming a new Sinhala party and join with his supporters to fight the “Yakage Palanaya” cartel of thieves and traitors who will ruin Sri Lanka eventually..

  7. Fran Diaz Says:

    QUESTIONS :

#1 : In the 1970s & 1980s, why did the LTTE kill the UNP top leaders (Lalith A., Gamini D., Pres Premadasa, to name a few – ALL Sinhala/Buddhists), and also top MODERATE Tamil leaders (Dr Neelan T., Laksman Kadirgama, etc.) ?

#2 : At present, who commands the Tamil Diaspora abroad (rump LTTE) ?

#3 : Tamil Leaders are presently very quiet. What do they have to say about what is going on in the country at present ?

  8. SA Kumar Says:

Tamil Leaders are presently very quiet? We-Tamil have not one but two TE now that why Very very quiet now.

  9. Fran Diaz Says:

    Kumar,

It seems rather pointless to respond to your ‘tongue in cheek statement’.

You are happy when the country suffers ? Is this all what you have to say when the country suffers : that ‘you Tamils have two Tamil Eelams’ ?

Aren’t you going against the very Dharma that you worship when you say such things.

    ———-

For Sri Lanka, with friends such we have, who needs enemies ?

  10. Independent Says:

    Mahinda will never leave SLFP.

  11. Cerberus Says:

Hi Dilrook, I think it is unfair to ask MR to form a new party. You must remember that though MR looks fit he is now almost 70 years. He has done a lot for Sri Lanka and the people. He should work in an advisory capacity. The Yahapalanya goons are trying their best to find something to hang him on. For the last 10 months no development work has been done by these idiots other than dragging all the people associated with the previous Govt to the Presidential Commissions. The Yahapalanaya people behave as if they are free of all corruption. The people of the country are not fooled. While they are so busy investigating all these people why is that no one has investigated the Central Bank bond scam done under MY3 and RW’s nose? In fact to cover it up they have transferred 115 good decent public servants. While they blunder everyday the country is going down. The only ones cheering are the UNHRC and West who find these are perfect puppets to run things the way they want.

We need to find younger leaders among our people. I am sure there are honest leaders. However in the current climate of revenge seeking nobody wants to come forward. I saw that President Maithripala Sirisena says the new government’s objective is to take the ideas and proposals of the scholars and intellectuals to utmost consideration for the forthcoming program to build the country. Why does he not listen to the ideas of President Mahinda Rajapakse, and some of the members of the previous regime.? MY3 is like the Mr. Hyde personality of the Jekyll and Hyde Yahapalanaya personality while RW and the Catholic Cabinet form the Jekyll personality of the group. As Charles Perera has pointed out in his article “Betrayer betrayed” MY3 has no idea of what is going on. He depends on RW to do everything. Very many intellectuals have written to the media on advice on what to do about the UNHRC resolution. Yet no one in the GoSL has taken any advice it appears. The Parliament has been neutralized by the National Govt so that there is no valid opposition. The GoSL at present seem to be frozen like deer in head lights not knowing what to do.

  12. Dilrook Says:

Cerberus, that wouldn’t be a problem as there are many youngsters to do the organising part. JR was older when he reorganised the UNP in 1976 to win the election. Chandrika was of same age when she launched an attack to take the helm of the SLFP in 2014. Mahinda was ready to assume office as prime minister just 2 months ago so I don’t see what has changed since. If Mahinda plays it safe avoiding hard work, his clan will be removed from politics or worse. Wimal, Dinesh and others are already willing to form a new party. The least Mahinda can do is join it. SLFP is officially with the UNP government in parliament and Mahinda is also in it. That is morally wrong as people voted for him and others close to him to oppose the UNP, not join it. If he remains within the SLFP, he will be just playing second fiddle to Sirisena, Chandrika and Berty Premalal Dissanayake’s son.

  13. SA Kumar Says:

    Sorry Fran Diaz

    1) our Karma end on 19th of May 2009.
    2) who commands the Tamil Diaspora abroad- almost every one of us Thalaivar (head) now ( after vp)
    3) bout what is going on in the country at present ? Tamil leader ONLY interest about their both provinces.

We-Lankan ( Ilankai Tamilar) are ruled (formaly called NEP of SL)by Republic of India ( Hindustan) now !

My Sinhala Sakodaraya We all Mother Lankan are kaput now !!!

  14. ranjit Says:

Dilrook and cerberus both are correct in your comments regarding MR. He is a leader and should work as a leader not a servant of any donkey head like Sira.He is a leader for 58 lacks and maybe more by now. He should work to keep them behind him without allowing to fly away from him. All his die hard supporters only wish is that he leaves the S.L.F.P. and form a ne party with the blessings of Nugegoda Man and the ordinary people in this country who supported him in last elections. No one like to see him going behind the Traitor and those ungrateful cowards who left him and joined Sira and the clan. We need to see him as a strong leader he use to be all his years in politics. We feel too much hurt when we see him these days in the T.V.channels going from one commision to another and answering questions. These Jarapalana traitors shouln’t treat him that way at all. He is a real Hero who gave the green light to crush the most ruthless terror group in the world and put a full stop to terrorism in my homeland. He should be pardoned from everything as he was the one who brought us freedom and gave all citizens alike to live as human beings. No other Govt has given Tamils and Muslims the way MR has given.Roads, Hospitals, Schools, Railway and free elections. Whats more these ungrateful cockroaches needs? They have all the freedom to live as human beings like all of us anywhere in this land of Paradise. MR is our only hope.we need to protect him like a Gem to save our Motherland.

  15. Fran Diaz Says:

    Kumar,

    Thank you for honesty.

But we think it is not Hindustan rule, it is ultra pro-west Kuruse rule.

If Hindustan rules your 2-Eelams, then the Caste System will be restored too, isn’t it ?

  16. Fran Diaz Says:

I am of the opinion that the main hidden problems for Sri Lanka are problems that any new MR political party will be unable to solve. Any new MR political party can solve problems of the People of Lanka re their daily needs, health care needs, education needs, etc. but there are problems beyond that the foreign countries have foisted on Lanka that are hidden and beyond the control of MR’s leadership.

The real but hidden problems beyond MR & any new party are :

    (a) Cold Wars and Trade demand the Ultra Pro-west factor (partly blindly so) coming from the UNP/churches. Unfortunately, the Ultra Pro-west factor carried with that the 500 yrs Colonist factor coming with Portugal, Britain, the Netherlands (Dutch), and all the attendant problems of conversions (basically anti-Buddhist actions), cruelties, foreign systems of law, new systems of economy, the sly ‘divide & rule’ of the nation, etc. I am saying here that there was more damage than good was done to Lanka by colonists.

(a-1) It appears that the TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership prog) from the of US corporate sector is en route to Asia too.

How is a Sinhala/Buddhist leader to tackle such enormous problems ? I am open to debate on this point.

    (b) The 3,000 yr old Tamil Dalit factor tied to the Hindu religion coming from Tamil Nadu. There are some 15 Million Tamil Dalits in Tamil Nadu. Dalits (formerly known as Untouchables) suffer through Caste stamp on their birth certificates. In the eyes of God, the Dailts have ‘sinned’ and are born from the ‘feet of god or outside dust’. Even the Buddha could not stop the Caste sysem of India. It is the Indian/Tamil Nadu social control system. New Laws prohibiting Atrocities against Dalits are not truly effective. In Tamil Nadu, the police have said that if atrocities against Tamil Dalits are truly followed through, half of TN would end up in jails. The Hindu newspaper has confirmed that atrocities against Tamil Dalits have increased greatly at present.

British brought in over a million of Tamil Dalits to work in the tea plantations mainly and other labor. The Dutch brought in about half a million such Tamils to work in the tobacco plantations of the North. That is how the balance of the ethnic population in Lanka went awry. Tamil Dalits convert readily to other religions, Catholicim/Christianity and even Islam and Buddhism. Some step into Hinduism and in Lanka they can educate themselves and enter Hindu Temples (per Law passed b SWRD), and the Tamil Language is in place (SWRD & 13-A), and birth certificates free of Caste.

In Tamil Nadu, the low caste Tamils are trained via religion and 3,000 yrs of Caste system to obey higher caste Tamils Hindu folk, but in Lanka the India/Tamil Nadu trained LTTE got used to killing Sinhala Buddhist leaders, non compliant other leaders and Tamil people, and destroy govt property.

Sri Lanka population is at least 18% Tamil. In the East, Tamil speaking Muslims are also Tamils.

The Tamils aim for Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka thinking that Eelam will solve their Caste problems etc. Currently, the Tamil Diaspora heads this notion with support from churches and various foreign bodies.

How is any Sinhala/Buddhist leader going to face and solve these seemingly intractable problems even if backed by most of the Sinhala/Buddhists of Lanka ?

The leaders of the entire country must agree if solutions are to be found for current problems and churches in particular must comply.

It is very unfair to challenge MR to form a new political party to face such problems. Look at the way the current govt is treating him, the armed forces and the past MR govt. !!

    ——–

We think a group of at least 5-8 well educated, savvy, people with proven records of loyalty and ability re the Economy etc. should form a Central Committee (as in China) govern Sri Lanka. MR (& GR) can counsel such a body, if they so wish to. MR & GR should be free to choose as THEY wish.

Please do not challenge MR any further. He & GR have sacrificed so much already. They have played their part and removed the LTTE from the shores of Lanka. We simply cannot request him & his family to sacrifice any more.

  17. Cerberus Says:

    Hi Dilrook,

The question is even if President Mahinda Rajapakase forms a separate party and becomes the Prime Minister will the U.K, US, EU, India nexus (the power bloc) which got rid of him in the first place in January of 2015, allow him to govern ?

You did a couple of clever articles to point out how the elections were cheated in January Yet MR did not take any action to contest these issues. When he decided to have elections in Jan 2015 in the first place was it not because he saw the writing on the wall from the West who wanted him out and replaced with a puppet government?

Even in August when it was obvious that MY3 had broken all the election laws and SLFP party laws, he did not “fight back”. Was it not that he knew it was pointless at this stage ? He has to protect himself and his family first.

The spineless, brainless my3 is perfect for the West. They cannot praise him enough and the rest of the idiotic UNP enough.

Unless MR can work out a deal with the above mentioned Nexus or unless the country collapses financially under the Yahapalana govt. as Greece did which is likely to happen, I am not sure how MR can come back. If the Nexus are appeased in some way only, will MR be able to come back. Otherwise it is a pointless mission for him to come back.

If MR does come back he can form a Governing Council of well educated people, knowledgeable about the economy, and proven loyal to Lanka, (a Governing Council such as in China), best suited for Sri Lanka.

  18. Lorenzo Says:

    I COMPLETELY DISAGREE.

MR should NOT leave SLFP. I said this before and I say it again. I will be VERY UNPOPULAR for saying this but I’m not here to become popular.

What is wrong with the SLFP? 2 IDIOTS – Maru Sira and Bandit Queen. That’s all!! Don’t leave the SLFP just because of 2 IDIOTS.

IF MR contests from another party, he has NO CHANCE of having even 20 MPs elected from that party.

    1. At least 25% of BLUE voters are LOYAL SLFP voters. They will NOT leave the SLFP. Other voters will lose faith in ALL anti-UNP parties disheartened because NONE OF THEM cannot win the election. UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!!

    2. UNP will WIN election after election if SLFP is divided. Can’t people understand that? Then UNP will consolidate power in ALL LEVELS from the Pratheseeya Sabha level to president. SIMPLE math.

    3. Do you think you people are more knowledgeable than MR in POLITICS? Come on!! MR WILL NEVER LEAVE THE SLFP. Mark my word. MR is happy to be dragged from one commission to another, imprison his relatives, etc. as long as his SLFP membership is NOT cancelled.

    What should be done?

Pray to high heavens so that Maru Sira and BQ will attain Nirvana soon. Then Karu J becomes temporary president according to the constitution. Since SLFP will NOT have its member as president, the SLFP will be free to elect its own party leader. MR can easily become the leader. Then there will be fresh presidential elections. MR will UNIFY NFF, PJHU, etc. to help UPFA win.

ONLY a SLFP led coalition can DISLODGE UNP goons. NFF, PJHU, MEP, etc. are one man parties.

The war call should be SAVE SLFP FROM THE 2 IMMORAL PIECES OF DIRT.

IF patriots are unwilling to do so, live with the curse. No free lunches.

  20. Dilrook Says:

Cerberus, Mahinda will not be able to contest the next presidential election as he has served 2 terms already. The governing council or the Cabinet will be appointed by the president, not anyone else. Therefore, the inabilities you mentioned don’t apply. However, he has to play a leadership role for the next president and he cannot shy away from that responsibility. The story of a grandfather planting a mango seed comes to mind. His grandson laments he would not be around to have the fruit! Hopefully our leaders will rise above self interest and do their duty by the nation.

Easy to remain in SLFP and secure a seat but the indignity, hopelessness and revenge suffered by Mahinda and his associates deserve much better. The trailblazing act of Mahinda will be very difficult and taxing. But done right, it will be rewarding. It also opens new avenues to bargain with the SLFP leadership. If the SLFP loses most local bodies at the forthcoming election (and at provincial council elections before 2019 which are employment agencies of parliamentarians’ kith and kin) SLFP members will seriously question its leadership. As voters associate the SLFP with UNP sins, any MP that remains with the SLFP becomes unpopular by the day.

Lets not forget Chandrika did the same against her own mother in 1988 and 1989. Had her party USA (among 2 other parties she formed) not contested the 1988 presidential election, the momentum of a combined opposition would have given Sirima a narrow victory.

Realising her ability to destabilise the party, Sirima very reluctantly agreed to bring her back in 1992. Thereafter she made her way within the party. Gamini Dissanayake and Karu Jayasuriya also followed this tactic to enhance their bargaining position within the UNP. Gamini Dissanayake is a case in point. He left the UNP in 1991 but returned to become its leader in 1994 after the general election defeat. I hope Mahinda will not waste anymore time and just do it.

    Thanks NeelaMahaYoda.

I think MR realized and stepped out of the way. That is why he did not contest the cheated elections in January or August. If we forms a party and becomes the opposition leader or Prime Minister then the same powers will work to ensure that MR is removed. Will they not?

A leader must not be driven by cowardice (fear of adversary forces) or selfishness. Fearing adversaries and avoid taking risks is simply cowardice and I don’t think that is where Mahinda wants to be. He famously quoted a proverb in the run up to the general election in August – will not build houses in cemetery if feared the devil.

He faced adversaries since 1970, not since January 2015. In 2005, India (led by Nirupama Rao) openly opposed Mahinda’s candidacy. In 2010, Butenis did the same. In his first term his every move was opposed by adversaries (internal and external) but he moved on. Therefore, it is doable for him. Today it is not a choice. Mahinda must forge his own political party for the sake of the nation, his grateful voters (5.8 million of them those most may not come with him) and even for the mere survival of his clan. Otherwise, he, his wife, children, brothers and even distant relatives may end up in jail. Only when he can challenge the political destiny of the nation will his adversaries fear and respect him. If they know he is weak and take instructions from the SLFP, they will hunt down his clan.

Almost all patriots who stand by the nation (inside and outside parliament) have appealed to Mahinda to forge a new political party. They cannot be wrong. I do not believe in violence which means Sirisena and Chandrika have either an equal or a longer lifespan as Mahinda. They will not allow Mahinda any say in the party. A very sad plight to a president once.

Mahinda contested from the UPFA. Any challenge to the presidential election must be made within a week by the party. UPFA’s main constituent SLFP had a new leader (Sirisena) who was unwilling to challenge the election result! UPFA general secretary and most other senior leaders are also SLFP members who followed their new official leader’s stand. There was no consensus within the UPFA to challenge the election. It will repeat again. If UNP rigs next national elections (most likely), UPFA will follow their docile approach and let the UNP have its way.

MAHINDA RAJAPAKSE was no coward when he went after the LTTE although all around him said the war could not be won. He is clearly biding his time for the correct moment. There is no other experienced leader at this critical time that the nation can trust….the rest have all been FAILURES.

In Eelam 1&2, it will be Hindustan vs Kuruse rule. Who wins ? Indian , We- Both lost Mother Lanka (Eelam 1&2 + Bhudist Sinha Lanka) to India.

now you know why Our one and only VVT 7th grade dropped out self declared Thesiya Thalivar VP ordered to kicked out IPKF even though they have offered NEP in gold plate to us.

    Kaput !!!

  28. Fran Diaz Says:

MR & GR do not owe the Nation anything – they have sacrificed so much for the Nation that it is the Nation that owes them a debt.

We live in incredible times where GREED & FEAR rule from vast countries rule the Earth. It is not an easy time to rule any country, anywhere. For Lanka, an arrangement as in China, through a Central Committee of able, educated, savvy and proven loyal to Lanka people of about 5-8 in number, will help to tide over these harsh times.

  29. Fran Diaz Says:

    Kumar,

Hindustan rule = Hinduthva rule = Tamil Nadu rule = re-imposition of Caste on Eelam 1&2. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

You guys fought all your life to escape Caste, now have it re-imposed on you. What a tragedy ! O tempora !

  30. SA Kumar Says:

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.-Agreed but Mother Lanka survived last 2.500 years or more from Sera , Chola , Pandiya, Pallava, than Potuges, Duche,English also 33 years from VP’S rule.

Hope & prey it will for another 3,000 years more at least Bhudishm exist in Mother Lanka !

  31. Fran Diaz Says:

    Kumar,

Buddhism is dying out in Lanka. This is mainly due to Colonisation of some 500 yrs with attendant other religions, and Tamil Labor brought in by Colonists and Tamil illegal migrants with their problems of Caste. The largesse enjoyed by all in Lanka is due to Buddhism, but that will not last very long, I think. I hope I am wrong here.

Today, Buddhist leaders have been killed off, or displaced and disabled, thanks to Tamil leaders and Tamil Diaspora and Cold War antics. Buddhist priests are mostly ignored. Buddhism has virtually disappeared from India and it will probably be the same in Sri Lanka too.

Likely that Catholicism/Christianity, and Islam will gain ground here.

However, Buddhism is gaining ground in the west and China. So Buddhism may flourish outside Lanka.

  32. SA Kumar Says:

    Fran Diaz
Buddhism is dying out in Lanka- Sorry I disagreed with you.
as a Ilankai Thamilan I can confirm you Buddhism live for ever in Holy Land of Lord Bhuddas Mother Lanka .

  33. Fran Diaz Says:

    Kumar,

Buddhism has been virtually knocked out in SE Asia through the Cold War bombings and expansion of Islam. Lanka is next in
    line !
You can disagree and hope, but that isn’t enough. What Tamil Leaders & Tamil Diaspora do with lies, cheat and deceit to down Lanka to get Eelam does not enhance Buddhism but knackers it. Generosity, loving kindness & liking coming from living Buddhism dies when those qualities go unappreciated by the receivers.

Buddhism is a living philosophy. It does not exist in the books. If in the books only, it is dry as dust. It comes alive only in the human Heart. But survival comes first, as we have to first do that. That part comes with the gene chip and cannot be ignored.

  34. SA Kumar Says:

Generosity, loving kindness & liking coming from living Buddhism dies when those qualities go unappreciated by the receivers- We Tamil appreciated 2,000 years or more & will for another 3,000 years or more !

But survival comes first- Agreed but Buddhism & Hindhusim ( castle is not part of Hinddusim included by Bramin for their benefit) survive itself do not need you or me .

  35. Fran Diaz Says:

    Kumar,

You can appreciate Buddhism for a long time. But where it survives in its true form (actual practice by people) and not just in display of religious buildings and books, will depend on the people themselves, the leaders and the times globally.
    Same for other religions.

Re Hinduism, Caste is well and alive in India.

    I close my case.
