Royal Asiatic Society Monthly Lecture on Two millennia of coins in Sri Lanka

by Siri Munasinghe, Numismatic Society on Monday 25th July at the Mahaveli Auditorium, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 07. All are welcome. 

The presentation is based on descriptions on coins found in the old manuscripts and rock inscriptions of Sri Lanka. An effort will be made to place these coins in a chronological order. The messages embedded in the symbols and the legend inscribed on the coins will be discussed. The instructions for craftsmen who manufactured the coins are found in the text Vajyatantra.  Over seventy five types of coins issued during the two millennia ending with the 15thcentury Kotte period will be shown.
