.50 BB’ ANTI-MATERIEL RIFLE BY BARRETT USA

It was a standard acceptance that 12 and 16 bore shotguns and rifles such as the T 56, which used fire arms ammunition were lethal.

But the .50 BB’s changed this concept completely. Now with a .50 BB air gun one can kill on site any individual. These are the type of weapons used against “The Leaders” editor Mr. Lasantha. This also clarifies that these assassinations were carried out by politically manured close colleagues of the Leader Newspaper’s former editor Mr. Lasantha; to put the blame on the former Defense Secretary and the political regime; as this is evident from even the postmortem results.

The .50 BB is a recoil-operated, semi-automatic anti-materiel rifle developed by the American Barrett Firearms Manufacturing company. It is used by many around the world to sniper animals. Despite its designation as an anti-materiel rifle, it is used by some as an anti-personnel sniper rifle. It is also called the Light Fifty for its .50 BMG (12.7×99mm NATO) chambering. The weapon is found in two variants, the original M82A1 (and A3) and the bullpup M82A2. The M82A2 is no longer manufactured, though the XM500 can be seen as its successor.

Finally I can say that the country SRI LANKA is being drained off politically by worldwide Tamil Eelam population; and that the Sinhalese are heading towards a volcano blow off unless and otherwise they adhere to the corrected political Sinhalese state precepts put forward by me in the website http://kuweni.comli.com

    Dear Professor Wijesinha,
This is an interesting article. I just wanted to inquire if it were ever officially established that Lasantha was killed with a Barret .50 BB gun?

Here there might be a little confusion between the Barret ‘Light fifty’ .50 Calibre weapon, as you said the M82A1, and a BB Airgun. The M82A1 is a long range sniper weapon. It is called an ‘Anti-Material’ weapon as it can be used to detonate explosive ordinance such as claymore mines from a safe distance.

From the news articles on the shooting, it appears that there were 4 assasins who came on motorbikes and surrounded Lasantha’s vehicle before firing on him. A bulky weapon such as a Barret .50 might not have been the weapon of choice in this matter.

On the other hand this Barrett BB gun you refer to might have been a smaller weapon. Do you have any details on it? I was not able to find any details on it through Google, although it is very possible that it is a BB replica made according to the real model.
