WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HIGH NUMBER KILLED BY THE RECENT FLOODS

RANJITH SOYSA

At a discussion I had with a climatologist based in Australia, I was told that not a single death was reported from Bangladesh on account of recent Mora cyclone, even though the density of the population was very high and the land was practically flat when compared to areas affected in Sir Lanka.

He further elaborated that sufficient advance information was made available through meteorological information streams that could have alerted the disaster management systems. It was the efficient management of early warning systems which enabled the people to move away from dangerous areas which prevented any deaths in Bangladesh. In short, the systems delivered and served the people whose benefit was the prime objective of the disaster management structure.

When very high rainfall was expected and recorded in the catchment areas and other landslide prone areas why didn’t the disaster management move as expected? Didn’t we have a system or was it mismanaged to cause over 200 deaths and destruction to tens of thousands of ordinary Sri Lankan citizens?

According to the climatologist the disaster could have been managed and most of the deaths could have been prevented. The mill cannot grind with water that is past.

Don’t worry Ranjith. The government will pay Rs 100,000.00 for each of the flood victims who lost their lives. This clearly shows how this Balupalanaya government values the lives of the members of it’s mega cabinet and the poor citizens. The lives of 300 flood victims are not worth even half the value of some cabinet member’s cars. But some stupid arse lickers still think this is a good government.

Ranjith remember after Meethotamula garbage disaster still no proper action is been taken. Still garbage is dumping in various places by force. So until next floods comes whatever the Palanaya they will just talk about disaster management systems. I remember in 1997 when Central Environmental Authority head office was at Maligawatha and the legal & some other sections were leased into one my building in Colombo. I took all technical details & know how from Melbourne and explained to then Chairman & GM how Australia managing garbage. At the conclusion of our discussion out come was due to political reason & various benefits these advance systems cannot be implemented. That was 20 years ago and I can see up to date only difference garbage dumping site had been changed from Thotalaga to meethotamulla. I think even Bangladesh created much after Sri Lanka Independence and they had achieved much more. In S/L our politicians main interest is how to become into power and how to continue in power making more & more money for themselves.

How can this yamaballo in Yamapalanaya government come to help the poor when they are in danger or facing any disaster or threat likes the current floods etc when the Primer minister and half of the cabinet members are not in the country? Their world round trips are more important than taking care of the people who voted them to power. Very shameless hypocrites we have today as rulers of this beautiful island we called SRI lanka our homeland. These politicians think we are all fools like them. They think we are all uneducated like them. They think we believe every story they tell us. They are nuts and crazy to believe that we are with them. Go and get lost you fools. Hey out and give someone who can do it.

Ignorance is bliss because their main reason for being in the government is to sell the country and get rich
Today one minister had the guts to say he made a mistake and did not take any notice of the environmental report whilst building the southern highway. There is no accountability who cares if a few innocent poor people are killed. These B— must be hung in galle face.

YAMA RAJJURUVO SIRAA, YAMA PALLAME GATE KEEPER, WICKUNANASINGHE, APAAYA REAL ESTATE OWNER AND UNDER-TAKER, ONE EYED CYCLOPS. DONT GET ANYWHERE NEAR THE GATE. NONE OF THEM ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR LIFE.

If each Province has a proper Disaster Warning system where the authorities go around in cars fixed with sirens and loudspeakers calling for people to move to higher ground in the case of floods, so many deaths could have been avoided.
Buddhist Temples and govt owned areas such as schools etc can be used as temporary shelters. Some areas did use such facilities.

    * What are the PCs in each Province doing about such events ?

    * What are the PCs going to do about disease control after the Flood waters recede ? Are they prepared ?

    * What is the purpose of these PCs if not to serve the people of those areas ?
