The Presidential Commission inquiring into the Central Bank Bond issue, which took place during the tenure of former Governor Arjuna Mahendran, issued special orders yesterday (13) to the incumbent CBSL Governor and the Auditor General.

The Auditor General was ordered to conduct a fresh audit query on the controversial Treasury Bond issues…… that took place at the Central Bank between 1 February 2015 and 31 March 2016, during the Governorship of Arjuna Mahendran.

The other order was issued to the Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka. He was ordered to provide the Auditor General with all the facts, which the CBSL had earlier refused to provide him with, when the last audit query into the controversial Treasury bond issues was conducted.

The commission issued the two orders when the Auditor General, Gamini Wijesinghe revealed that the Governor of the Central Bank had refused to provide him with some important facts regarding the controversial Treasury bond issues when the last audit query was being conducted.

Even if this commission manages to dig out the whole truth about the CB bond scam they are not empowered to act on any of their findings. All thy can do is to submit a report to the President who unashamedly claimed in public that he dissolved the parliament to save the bond scammers.
