Bring forth a federal constitution now if you can, Wimal challenges Govt.

Leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF), Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa challenged the Government to now bring forth a federal Constitution, with the Constitutional Assembly being rendered invalid after he and four other parliamentarians left the Assembly yesterday (19).
Weerawansa stated this upon attending a press conference of the NFF at the party headquarters in Pitakotte today (20).
He stated that they had been made members of the Constitutional Assembly automatically, owing to their parliamentarian status.
He proceeded to remind that the NFF had refrained from participating in activities of the operation committee and 6 sub-committees right from the start.
Weerawansa also added that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s aim had been to form an external Constitutional Assembly separate from the Parliament, and create a draft Constitution and bring the relevant agenda to the Parliament. He then added that the PM’s plan had failed owing to the Joint Opposition’s course of action.
