Mr Maithreepala Sirisena was a trusted Lieutenant in President Mahinda Rajapakse regime. But MS found a marriage of convenience with someone with his endorsement as preferred candidate to be the Executive Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. It was all underhand work, best described as
deceitful, dishonest, dishonourable, disreputable, unethical, unprincipled, immoral, unscrupulous, fraudulent, cheating, dubious, dirty, unfair, treacherous, duplicitous, double-dealing.” After 3 years, what did MS achieve? What did he deliver to the Nation? He cannot remember when Sri Lanka achieved Independence. He cannot remember how War ended.
UNP since losing power in 1956, tried to turn the events. Prime Minister S W R D Bandaranaike was killed. Then a well planned conspiracy to overthrow the government of Mrs Srimavo Bandaranaike. To investigate these high profie cases, Scotland Yard was called in. It is a common belief the real culprits were not found by the Scotland Yard of England.
Then Lalith Athulathmadali, Gamini Dissanayake, Ranasinghe Premadasa were killed. There was no sense of urgency to call Scotland Yard at that time.
The political options are very clear:
- President MS can continue to work with his chose partner in political marriage. No one is obstructing him;
- President Mahinda Rajapakse is in no hurry to grab power;
iii. Hon Prime Minister Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe will be trying using all bullets at his disposal to re-ignite the economy and bring an united, unified Sri Lanka with the help of Norway and its Allies.
With only a few months left in the craddle, SLPP and Prez Mahinda Rajapakse are best advised to be tough, to see the natural death and carnage of this disrespectful government.
It is heartening Mr Basil Rajapakse is back in the saddle.

If MS stand’s naked or wear a sarong he is the same. He is dishonest, dishonourable, unprincipled spineless good for nothing dirty politician in my view. Whole three year’s what he did was just blaming and taking revenge from his opponents nothing else. Mahinda should not trust this person for a dime. He is a very low character. Mahinda is a person who has showed his leadership qualities and done something to our blessed land more than any other political leaders. Ending the most cruel LTTE war was enough for me and for the millions of our citizens. Because of straight forward and fearless leadership Mahinda was able to crush LTTE terror completely and kill the most ruthless terrorist leaders in Sri Lanka and bring peace to our nation. I think Mahinda should not have any deals with these SLFP or UNP traitors at this hour except with the sri Lankan public who immensely supports him and his newly formed party Pohottuwa. Citizens are with him more than any other times. He is the only solution for our problems facing the country today. All peace loving citizens must rally behind him and help him to form a decent uncorrupted government to come out from the mess these corrupt treacherous yamapalanaya brought us.

Agree mostly.
But Mahinda is in a mighty hurry to grab power because Special Courts target his family members. If these cases go ahead, his wife, 3 sons, at least 2 brothers and a large number of other relatives may be in trouble. There is another reason. After years of neglect, UNP has now started to borrow for development just like Mahinda did. This not only makes the UNP popular among Sinhala masses and ease the forex crisis, it also burdens the next government in a bigger debt trap. Mahinda is very keen to avoid this as well. The third reason is minorities. Mahinda knows if a presidential election is held prior (which is most likely) his party will be without any minority votes. If he can become PM before, then CWC, SLMC, EPDP and ACMC will join in. Some of them will support Mahinda’s camp at the presidential election.
Don’t forget the UNP along with the TNA has a clear parliamentary majority. They are keen to drag on as long as it takes. Sirisena’s SLFP is down but certainly not out. Mahinda’s party cannot win a presidential election without minority votes and with the SLFP and the JVP (and possibly more) vying for the Buddhist vote. No matter how hard the SLPP/JO tries, it cannot defuse the JVP. With economic crisis biting, JVP will become even more popular among the potential voters of the JO/SLPP.
Contrast this with 2004 and 2005. Mahinda succeeded in forging a unified front with the JVP and the JHU. That’s how he won narrowly. I don’t share the same views on Basil to say the very least. As things are today, UNP is poised to win the 2019 presidential election no matter how unpopular it is just as it won in 1982 and 1988 (by foul means of course).

The Indian Colonial Parasites’ vote, money and Indian influence has decided the fate of the Sinhalese since 1956. Banda’s family and JRJ were puppets of India like Sirisena.
We Sinhalese are fighting among ourselves as we do since 1956.

I disagree with the argument put forward that MR is in a hurry to grab power in order to prevent legal action against corrupt practices.
Since this new government came into power, the following political leaders corruption issues have surfaced:
i.MS still under investigation by the Australian Federal authorities;
ii.RW: His involvement in Bond Scam will be the focal point of a new regime in Sri Lanka.
iii. JVP strongman had accepted $25k as evidenced by Wijedasa Rajapakse video recordings.
If MR, GR, BR or NR are corrupt, will there be outpouring number of intellectuals, professionals rallying behind them? They are not politicians, but a band of educated people with full time profession locally and abroad, rallying around a honest, descent, tough politicians like MR, GR, BR.
A scenario similar to top brass joining Mr Lee Kwan Yew. He had S Rajaratnam, Goh Ken Swie, Tony Tan, Toh Ting Chi. etc.
If Ranil has any concrete evidence, will any one with stable state of mind believe that he will wait 3 years to action. Now his power is fading, he is reduced to Zero.

I will bet my life that UNP will never win the next presidential election never. They have done immense damage to our nation politically and economically more than any other party in the political field. We don’t say that they didn’t do any good to our nation but after 1977 they destroyed the Sri Lankan way of life and the beauty of our land by joining hands with our enemies and going behind white man’s green bucks. UNP is responsible for most of the woes we are facing today because of Central bank daylight robbery done by UNP leadership. It was already proved and no action yet. They were responsible for thousands of deaths during 80’s and 90’s and the starting of LTTE war. Not a single UNP leader was able to stop it until Mahinda stopped completely. Now these vicious murderers are raising their heads again in various forms and UNP or their partners cannot put a stop because they are all traitors to the Sinhala Buddhist population and the Sinhala land. They are pleasing our enemies than our own people. White man and the Indian parasites are squeezing our necks and sucking our blood while our leaders enjoying globetrotting with their kith and kin. They investigated for 3 years. Prosecutions have just started. They don’t need evidence to frame opponents in Sri Lanka. Our intellectuals are not all unbiased and patriotic. Some are driven by business interests.
The following speech by Wimal (published elsewhere here) highlights the urgency of taking of power by Mahinda. I refuse to believe it is done to save the nation only. There are other driving forces too. Even if Mahinda takes over, there is nothing he can do. Our economic crisis is real and goes beyond party politics.

UNP will be happy to be out of power now. If Mahinda takes over now, people will blame him for the crisis by next year. UNP and JVP will play their opposition game and will be able to win more votes at the 2019 presidential election. The advantages I mentioned are from Mahinda’s point of view. But bad outweigh good if Mahinda takes over for his party. Still they are in a mighty hurry to take over the nation.

Agreewith Dilrook on both of Mahinda’s alleged motivations to topple the YahapalanayaNOW.
But, I DISAGREE with Dilrook on
1 the JVP being “popular”,
2. the “impossibiity”of the JO ton win without”minority”votes,and
3. that the UNP is “poised to win” the 2019 Presidential election!
The JVP is now DISCREDITED by the role it played in OPPOTUNISTICALLY bringing the Yamapalaaya to power. No Amount of CRITICIZING the Yamapalanaya NOW will enable it to divest itself of that responsibility. Te same is true of RATANA Thero.
The JO can and will WIN BIG if it FOCUSES SOLELY on MOBILIZING the Sinhala Buddhst VOTE and the Sinhala Buddhist FEARS of LOSING ALL that we had achieved by crushing the LTTE! Tyat canbe done by adopting a PATRIOTIC EOECTION MANIFESTO with the REPEALof the 13A, DISSOLUTION of the Provincial Governments, ELIMINATING REDUNDANT sub-national ELECTED local governments in favor of a STRONG CENTRAL Government. and POLICY of STRENGTHENING Local Businesses instead of SELLING National Assets and ECONOMY and PANDERING to Foreign Busineses and Powers! Sirisena, the CRAFTY BACKSTABBER that he is, KNOWS this well, and that is why he is swallowing his fear of JUST retribution, and WOOING Mahinda NOW!

The JVP comes nowhere close to winning anything meaningful. However, it holds at least 7% of the Buddhist vote. Jokers and minor parties (excluding SLFP) also tend to win about 4% of the Buddhist vote (minorities shun them). That is 11% of the Buddhist vote is already wasted. Don’t forget UNP also has a sizable Buddhist vote no matter how ironic it is. This leaves JO/SLPP with a difficult challenge.
My forecast is based on things as at now. Gotabaya has not definitively declared his intention and he is yet to revoke his US citizenship which he is unwilling to shed until the Special Courts matter is off his back. If government drags it on and on and hold a snap presidential election, he will be unable to contest.
Taking over this mess with just 1 year to go for the all important presidential election is unwise. It is a trap.

Whoever win the elections ( from all popular parties) there is no one who could salvage the country and Sinhalaya. Non-aligned game will not work anymore. With the current geopolitics, only way out could be direct alliance with USA, which personally I don’t like but it may perhaps bring prosperity provided a people grab power have some patriotism left in them. One of the Thirupathy worshipers may win but definitely they will make the country the next Indian state.
