President removes Prime Minister’s Secretary

Mr. Saman Ekanayake has been removed from the post of Secretary to the Prime Minister with immediate effect.

The order to remove the Secretary to the President has been issued by President Maithripala Sirisena in an Extraordinary Gazette.

The government notification states that Mr E.M.S.B. Ekanayake, who was appointed Secretary to the Prime Minister, by virtue of powers vested in the President under Article 51(1) of the Constitution of Sri Lanka, was removed from the post by the President.

The senior Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service was appointed to the post of Secretary to the Prime Minister in August 2015.

He has served in the Prime Minister’s Office, Department of Government Information, Ministries of Housing, External Affairs, Finance, Youth Affairs and Industries. He has also served in Sri Lanka High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and Sri Lanka High Commission in London.
